Applying Fungicide gets Frightening | Queen's Escape

  • The majority of time spent by our contractors applying fungicide has been calm. A little scary due to the towering heights as these men navigate up and down an extremely tall ladder. But okay. Then the ladder malfunctioned. Yikes.

    Queen's Escape was inspired by the 4 years the Belgian royal family stayed at Château de La Tuilerie during WWII. In particular, it is for the Queen. The king took shelter at a different location in France. We've named each of our guest rooms after great Queens of the past and present from around the world. Margrethe, Eleanor, Catherine, Himiko, Cleopatra, and soon our bridal suite will be ready in honor of Queen Elizabeth II.
    With it's sprawling green meadows, 100-year-old trees, and historic location in the small medieval town of Gluges, the 200-year-old château is truly an escape. With 5 guest rooms to rent and a stunning Orangery, we look forward to welcoming you for a visit or to host your wedding or event.

    Just an observation. Your Iron outdoor lights are black, your gutters are dark, and the hardware on your shutters is black (or dark). The lovely Iron accents on the windows would look great painted black or dark as well. If painted white again, they just don’t look right, in my opinion. They get lost against the light and now clean facade of the Chateau.

    The red looks like rust from the railings. You should spray railings with rut proof paint first then paint over rust remover.

    Wonder if some power washing of the balustrades would lighten them up further, (after waiting for a couple of months sunshine) if they still need to brighten a bit. I know the sun should continue to work to further the brightening process. Enjoyed watching how it’s done…I don’t think that was a project Bo should attempt. Love your channel from PA, USA.

    Hey Karen boy the fungus, spray on the Chateau. Is going to be a game changer. That’s fabulous 😊you know as I drove through France last summer I can remember so many châteaus that had that real dark discoloration and fungus on the side and I used to visualize all these château, pretty and clean with flower boxes and what not and I know that’s hard to take care of, but man is it beautiful. so, they used a product based on sodiumhypochloride (based on described odour and bleaching marks. This is een oxidator, so the red is oxidised iron, comingfrom the metal railings in the windows. It will was away with the rain, but in few months you could wash it away with a mixture of peroxide and bicarbonate if it persists (mix it with some hot water and marseille soap brush it on.) to prevent it, treat the metal railings, remove old paint layers chemically or with laser, than antirust treatment and paint -the latter two can be bought as one product with the two properties-
    the men coming were clearly not equipped to do chateau's/large buildings, the spraytool, was just like a garden hose... so iunderstand the concerns...but in the end it is just bringing a chemical product on and giving it time to do it's work. Keep fingers crossed.

      I was pretty shocked at the fine spray of their product, which didn't appear to consistently saturate the stone. I guess I expected force and wider spray effect. Also, at $5,000. Euro, I would have expected some scrubbing would have been a part of the process so that you wouldn't have to wait four months to experience considerable improvement in the appearance of your facade. I guess time will tell if it's a successful result! I sincerely hope it will be, and that you have a guarantee for its effectiveness to fall back on.🤞😊 I love that you're planting the trees and attaching family names to honor at the same time! ❤

    It would be interesting to know what chemical(s) were used as I believe once applied they should be left for a short while (maybe one hour) for it to activate and penetrate the stone then be rinsed off. This was certainly the case with the stone cleaner I used when cleaning my property. I did not see any rinsing off. As you are no doubt aware chemicals can be corrosive to metals, so you need to check that your guttering and down pipes will not be affected by the chemicals not being washed off.

    • @amysimpson646
      @amysimpson646 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is a different product. It's meant to be left on. It soaks into the stone and continues working for months. It's also used on roofs where moss and mildew grows. It may not get all the stains. Sometimes very hard stains require additional cleaning with a acidic cleaner. I think the red stains could be reached through the windows from inside which would make the job much easier.

    • @queensescape
      @queensescape  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Product was DALEP 2100 - not a rinse-off fungicide. It applies a water barrier in addition so if you rinse or scrub it you lose the protection. It works over time - 3-5 months + rain, heat, and sun. 😊

They wore protective gear too. No waiting months for rain or sun to clean it off. But then again, scaffolding or cherry picker would cost extra and the client wanted a low price. 🍎Karen and Bo,
    Beautiful sky blue sunny day!
    We like your oyster shell artwork! You're a very talented artist! Seasonal postcards of your chateau would be gorgeous!
    About cutting mature trees down to their trunks, it will definitely show signs of trauma causing the tree to bleed and that's why the trunk becomes black. It also cuts the tree's life span in half because people intentionally cut them every year because humans think the tree grows fuller and better. Which is just the opposite, as in nature when trees are left alone to do their own natural cycle of shedding and changing of the leaves, they're much happier trees. Trees are just like humans, if they experience an accident which triggers the body to respond to trauma, humans as you know also bleed or have bruises on their skin which can also turn black and blue just like how the tree turns black when it's traumatized by cutting down all their leaves and so the bark becomes black. That's the tree's sign of bleeding because of the shock of it being cut of all it's natural, beautiful, glorious leafy limbs. In school I found history to be the most boring subject ever! Because it was the only way people thought was the best way and since history repeats itself, people have learned to do things a much better way. A perfect example is, humans today live a lot longer because of better foods and choices and the cure for medical issues that centuries ago, they didn't have an answer for. So when it comes to trees, we should treat them the way they survive in their natural habitat where people don't intentionally traumatize them and so they bloom naturally.
    Bye for now.🌴

    Where did you find the workers, did you check their references and see their final results from previous work and did you ask them if they had liability insurance? I hope you will not pay them until you see the final outcome whether it is three months from now or more.

      Yes, we saw case studies and we will have the opportunity to see a couple months of results before we pay. I’ve invited the owner back to take after pictures.

    Well, agree with it being done! Glad you are happy with it. I dare say, their process does not appear professional in the application process. One single ladder, no harness, mask, it appears as if they are beginners. 15 year guarantee? What guarantees they will be in business next year, little own 15 years. You are both so trusting, I wish they would have been better geared up to prove experience, though! My money is on this was their first & maybe last job. Still sending positive vibes your way!

      Well, for heaven’s sakes, don’t sugar coat it. 😂 We are not so trusting as you say. We didn’t know what they’d show up with to do the job. And once I saw, you saw me parked in the yard watching every move. But I do also hope it turns out well, despite the craziness of it all.

      @@queensescape You have made my day! Yes, I loved the shot of you sitting on the outdoor chair, monitoring. (I would have done the same) That was a good move, as Bo suggested. It at least let them know, you did expect them to completely follow through, regardless of one person falling off the ladder. Looking forward to your next video! You are doing a fabulous job!

    Not being funny but having contractors who didnt use appropriate safety equipment like an aerial work platform and personal protective equipment is probably a false economy and I wouldnt trust the guarantee in the slightest. Sorry

      I didn’t find your comment funny or anything to apologize for. Nor do we disagree. 😉

    Karen are you allowed to paint the stone on exterior of the Cheatue? Has Bo landed on the heli pad yet?

      I am not sure about painting the stone. I believe Bo told me no, but I really need to ask him again. No one has landed in the helipad yet. We need to start doing weddings to make that happen.
