I get it, it attracts views, but I would appreciate mention of where in the video the answer is, at the beginning of the video or in description. I came to comments to find exact information James provided.
Also including sources, in description, for info you are presenting would be nice to have. This way I can not know how accurate is the information you are providing. I checked "About" section of the channel, there is good disclaimer, but no way for me to make informed decision. So I need to spend more time finding the actual sources.

I am curious. Do you have osteoarthritis or rhumatoid arthritis? I have osteoarthritis in my right shoulder. I have been on a low carb/almost keto diet for nearly nine months now. Although I am intrigued by autophagy, I must admit it scares me a little. I have lost a fair amount of weight after cutting out carbs significantly even though I didn't need to lose weight in the first place.

    • @Cookies-i2f

@@ADAPTATION7 I had rheumatic fever when I was 10 years old and ever since I have been susceptible to inflammation, stiffness and joint aches with low grade fever at times. This was a normal for me, especially after too much exertion. I also suffered from an undiagnosed tooth infection for 30 years, with similar symptoms. So I'm pretty happy that low carb and autophagy has improved my health so much.

Was planning to water fast for 7 days.
Energy levels were going down from day 1 till day 5 and then suddenly on day 6 felt like a superhuman. On day 7 felt full of energy, super excited, light and fast. Cognitive function boost. Mood boost. Smoker's dry cough, sneezing and morning sinusitis were gone by day 7.
So I decided to extend my fasting to 2 weeks. I did a 24-hour fast quite a few times before, 3-4 times a 72-hour one. And mostly I'm on IF 20/4 (OMAD/2MAD). So I was sorta well prepared and had a very light vegetarian diet for a week before I decided to go for an extended one.
So far feeling great (today is Day 10). Regenerating my body, drinking only water and when I feel hungry, sometimes I have a cup of green tea. Also I have my regular cardio walks - 9-10km/ 2-3.5 hours a day. Wouldn't dare to consume ANYTHING that might interrupt this amazing transformation : ) Once I tried adding lemon and ginger to my water. The next day I felt an unpleasant bitter taste on my tongue. Decided I can go on without it XD

@@DaniRush_ Re-feeding is being the real struggle. I managed to water fast for 40 days. Fasting was easy. But re-feeding requires a lot of patience and self-discipline. Feeling now completely opposite - very weak and like a newborn, teaching myself to eat again. : ) The sudden drop of energy happened on day 37-38. Before that I was adding salt, ACV and lemon juice in my morning glass of water to keep my electrolytes in check. It helped. I was able to do my cardio walk almost every day and work online. But now I am really struggling breaking my extended 40-day fast... It's like, breaking your fast is the price you pay for all the benefits you collect while fasting.

I started a 3 day fast today which will be my longest fast so far. So do you think autophagy was what helped mankind survive over so many thousands of years? Probably was quite normal for humans to go several days without food then feast on a fresh kill. I hope autophagy can help solve so many illnesses and disease. Remember that prehistoric man didn't sit around fasting, they were forced into famine, and my point is I never hear anyone mention that fact that a starving people didn't sit around during autophagy, they are walking, hiking, even running in an effort to find food. This exercise makes all the difference in how fast autophagy will start. Of course, who is going to walk 20 miles while starving and weak. But my point is the body is desperate for amino acids to support finding food and that is what drives autophagy. Without the exercise you are probably not getting but a fraction of the effect.

    I do 24-48+hr. Fast.
A great way to quickly enter Atophagy, is to do a Baking Soda or Sea Salt Flush at the beginning of your Fast, to clear out any fecal matter that would be utilized by your body as a fuel source.
I do a minimum 64iz hot water w/ 2 tablespoons Baking Soda ratio.
If my colon hasn't completely cleared out all 'Brown stuff', I do another Flush until the fluid excreted is light yellow in color.
Therefore I know my colon has completely cleared of all fecal matter, and atophagy can begin.
I drink lemon water and geen tea throughout the Fast to remain hydrated.
Pinch of Sea Salt for energy.
Dry Fast if you need deeper healing.

16 “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. 17 Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. Thx Doc. Very useful video. Will be following you for new ones. As for my efforts on Autophagy and IF, I have first heard about it in Oct 2019 :) pretty late I know and I started trying it right away. Regularly in IF everyday now for 4 months or so practicing the 16-8. Very rarely 18-6. Remarkable benefits in all the areas mentioned in all youtube videos like yours; increased stamina, better performance in the gym, retention of muscle mass, leaner muscle look due to loss of the excess fat. I have gained maybe 1 kg over the course of 4 months but definitely look better in the mirror, thus, the gain is probably in the muscle mass. IF is difficult/strenous in the first couple of weeks until the body adapts to it; then the hunger is almost unnoticable for the 16-8. I dont know the effects of autophagy yet :) but the bloating is gone, belly flattened noticeably, more energy and stamina on every stage I need :) I work out better in the fasted stage, thats for sure. I drink 1 cup of black coffee and lots of water during the fasted stage. Reduced the carbs as well and trying hard to keep it reduced at all times whilst I am eating; thus I maybe going into Ketosis, but not too crazy about the Keto at all. So glad I came across the IF. Big promoter of IF now and recommend it to all I know around me. Sorry if the long comment is boring :) Stay healthy and God bless

Hey there.. I’m practicing the carnivore way of eating and have done since 10th December 2019, I eat one meal a day and fast the rest of the time. Most of the time I fast over 24 hours. The other day I did a fat fast for 48 hours and I felt great, lost a couple of lb.. no cravings or nothing. On that I had maybe 2 small teaspoons of homemade butter in the day. Would fat fasting stop autophagy? And what is your opinion on fat fasting.
Also, I chose the fat fast because I have epilepsy and I’ve heard a diet high in fat can help with that issue. Whilst fasting I didn’t want to starve my brain of fat, even though I was in ketosis...
Oh, and my meals consist of a moderate amount of protein and high good quality fats - homemade butter, homemade mayo, and hard cheese. I’m zero carb.
Sorry about the long message, I really hope you can tell me what you think x

      Mental focus too!
And the pounds MELT off incrementally on a daily basis.
I’m only 9 lbs. away from my target weight & waist numbers.

Help! I’m on day ten of water only with the following exceptions spread out over a number of days:
4 cups of green tea and a total of maybe one and a half teaspoons of organic coconut oil. That’s it besides most days I remember to have a couple of teaspoons of organic apple cider vinegar. It’s getting a bit confusing trying to listen to a bunch of different videos. I followed one suggestion and ordered LYTE show for a lecture lights after hearing about how Owen help with energy, but does that stop autophagy? Then the other big question for me is about bee pollen. Years ago when I did a long fast I did bee pollen and I felt great. Right now I am weak, spacey and exhausted.… Yet refusing to quit my goal is to do a minimum of 25 to 30 days… And I worked a 45 hour work week where I’m on my feet all day taking care of a patient one on one. Looking for helpful advice. Thanks!

  • @lillypod1337
    @lillypod1337 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Answer : Optimal levels reached around the 18th hour. Not eating or drinking anything that could raise Insulin levels for 12 hours opens up the doors of cells to start letting things go. At around hour 14 the benefits start to happen but only if this is done DAILY. Fasting for 16 hours is even better, the cells are wide open but around hour 18 is when the benefits are maximized. The cell doors are wide open flushing everything from viral infection to inflammation and toxic substances out of the body. Doing this daily has a lot more benefits than just doing it once a week, because not letting your body heal for 6 days a week and then trying to cure something within 18 hours just isn't possible. This is why OMAD is so powerful ( One Meal A Day ). Once your brain adjusts to the new eating habit (3 months or 8 months into it) it will be easier to skip an entire day of eating and fast for 24 hours or longer. Make sure to consume lots of raw cruciferous vegetables during your eating window so the liver has a way of cleansing the body of toxic hormones such as estradiol (breast-and prostate cancer hormone)

Thank you for this next level of education. My question is - Does macro-autophagy "recyle" the cell into the same type of cell it "ate"? I understood that while our bodies can add fat cells when we keep feeding it excess carbs, that we can only shrink the fat cells, but not reduce their numbers. But if it isn't being used for storage anymore, why wouldn't it disappear? I have been assuming that autophagy "eats" tired damaged heart cells and replace with new heart cells? I am missing some understanding somewhere.

Insulin is just one of the only markers we have to detect nutrients in the body in this case sugar. Since autophagy is dependent on nutrient deprivation insulin can help us give a ball park of when autophagy is activated in the body.

Questions. Green Tea, or perhaps it's extract Coffee, I've heard increases autophagy. Also, I seem to recall that perhaps even taking ALCAR might increase autophagy too. It certainly would increase fat utilization while otherwise "fasting."
What are your thoughts on the use of green tea, pink salt, decaf or regular black coffee, and perhaps too alcar during a what would otherwise be an extended water fast.
I've gone from daily intermittent fasting, shortening the eating window to fasting from Friday to Sunday morning for couple of weeks to now Fasting Thursday night until about Monday at noon. I get psychologically "hungry" more than bodily hungry. Feel pretty good day 1 and day 3. Day 2 isn't terrible, Monday morning I feel like my adrenal's are fatigued and it's time to re-feed!

    • @natureshealthclinic
      @natureshealthclinic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes green tea and pure coffee can stimulate autophagy. ALCR on the other hand is an amino acid and as far as we know proteins and aminos turn off autophagy. And if you are dealing with adrenal fatigue stimulants such as caffeine is not the best choice for adrenal support.

Black coffee (no sugar or milk and not instant coffee) increase metabolism hence energy usage. Black coffee in the morning is also a stimulant and same goes for green tea but they need to be used in moderation, not more than 3 small coffees or green teas otherwise you will build up toxins that may defy the purpose. Black coffee is also an appetite suppressant which help with the fasting.

Not just autophagy but fasting can help with psoriasis along with allergy testing

If I'm eating low carb , will I get any autophagy doing 16/8 IF? If not , at what point would I get autophagy benefits? Thanks

Not really. But if you are doing low carb you should reach it by 24 hours

I have a question, is it ok to do fast within 24-48 hrs. If I am under medication for my depression?..

I came back from Japan with some matcha from iyemon. Will matcha break a fast or stop autophagy?

No green tea 🍵 has been shown to increase autophagy

I have been fasting about once a week for a few months. At lunch time, I like to make tea from Ginger Root and have been adding coconut oil. This makes fasting much easier and doesn't raise my insulin. Is this completely inhibiting Autophagy? I have been exercising after the 20 hour mark to raise HGH.

The ginger tea will not but the coconut oil can since its a fat that can still activate insulin very slightly.

Hi Doc great video. I have had Type 1 diabetes(UK) for 40 years now no complications and two beautiful sons. I am using a pump and have just become insulin resistant. Started keto and have had the best, the best blood sugar results ever better even than when pregnant. But I keep picking up viruses and am interested in autophagy. Apart from all the obvious food/insulin probs diabetics have and if those were controlled and approved by my own drs; I am curious whether autophagy could be used to improve my health, and if getting into autophagy would take longer ? Any thoughts?
    Thanks
