As is noted, in particular the Vampire Pact (not sure if that's what it's called, but it's close), "those who are forgotten by this world, end up in Gensokyo." In essence, this is why the Hakurei Border is so important. If the border was to fall, then their fantasy world would be returned to reality (this world), which would result in their destruction.

Lewtable thats not entirely correct. to be specific, its when humans use "artificial" means to do so. kasen is a hermit, but she's also not. legitimate hermits aren't really an issue for shinigami. its when someone breaks the system to become one that it becomes an issue. at least thats what i got out of it.

There's also Genji, Sokrates(Ellen's cat in PoDD), Youki Konpaku, Marisa's father, the Watatsuki sisters' husbands, Seiga Kaku's husband, Iwasaka(mugged by Mokou - see CiLR Chpt. 4) and SinGyoku's male form, just to name a few. Of these males, only Genji, Sokrates, SinGyoku and Iwasaka have any screen time.
AH! It just dawned on me, one last note... As I remember, the Hakurei Border was formed by the Great Hakurei, in order to seal off the Youkai, indeed. But, there's another note, concerning the Dragon (you can find it on the Wiki, as well); certain members (Shink, Yukari, to name a few) asked it for the land, in which they would have Gensokyo. I forget how they're tied together, but, basically, what was used to seal them away from this world as a weapon, essentially, became their life necessity.

UFO Reimu I found much more aggressive than in previous games. Before she acted like she was just doing her job, but in 12 she seemed extremely overzealous in comparison. As for Marisa, well she's just being Marisa. Nothing out of place there.
I agree. People often forgot how in the old days, youkai are freely hunting and eating humans. Of course the humans are going to strike back. And Byakuren also sacrificed the people on that ship to "save" Murasa.
I believe you're referring to Perfect Memento in Strict Sense, which delves into that. If I'm not mistaken, both there and in other works, it's well-noted that Gensokyo came about as humans began to rise up against the youkai, believing more in science than magic. Basically, humans began to move away from fantasy to more practical matters, which in turn lead to such beliefs in youkai to be forgotten.
I believe you're right, that it was from Symposium of Post-Mysticism. As for the Gensokyo thing, I'm "pretty sure" it was PMiSS, but I can't be certain. As I haven't re-dived into Touhou works thanks to other concerns, there's no telling. At any rate, no harm, no foul. Take care, bro.
Last note: Doing some actual research on your Touhou lore, beyond the first page, of the wiki, saves you from making a fool of yourself, for no reason. If humans never believe, youkai never exist.
@Epicvonepicness have you watched the byakuren pvd? It shows why we relate her to jesus. If you're to lazy to search it up then let me tell you something quick. She cares for all youkai, good or bad. She never has done a bad thing and etc. Just watch the pvd so you'll understand it more.

I usually don't respond to sort of childishness, so I'll be quick. 1- Byakuren committed her sins to obtain eternal youth, but as she did, she began to see that human and youkai could coexist and has, since, promoted it. Hence the nickname Youkai Jesus. 2- She paid the price for her ways. 3- She never would've such a chance, if Humans didn't believe so much in irrelevant things and nature. When they stopped believing, the youkai started vanishing. Hence Gensokyo's creation.
