You got a lot more to learn. Every song is as good as the one you last heard it will turn you inside out , you just got to listen. We are 70 years old and have been a Sir Gentleman Jim Reeves fan since day one. Hey was not know in America They did not want to know him But was known in the rest of the world and did very well for that matter. Ti is very comforting , soothing touching and healing to listen to him singing, not the crap the put out today. You will enjoy what you listen to.

Jim Reeves left in an airplane from my hometown in 1964 and his plane crashed later in TN killing him. So much talent killed in plane crashes in those days, Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, Patsy Cline, Jim Reeves, then later to Jim Croce & Lynard Skynard band members. This is such a smooth song. He was truly talented.

Hey! Thanks so much for playing & reviewing, Jim Reeves', "He'll Have To Go". My dad introduced me country music at a very young age & whenever we were out anywhere that had a jukebox he'd give me 25 cents, because in the 1960's you got 1 song for a dime or 3 selections for 25 cents. My dad would tell to go find this song & play it. So, this taught me how to listen to the story & I always wondered how it turned out for the guy on the phone? Yes, Jim Reeves is smiling at the end of the song. Well, that's what all the entertainers did back in the day. They got dressed up in a suit & tie & always smiled for the audience even if they were singing a gut-wrenching song.

I remember Jim Reeves well. Such a loss when he died. This song has a special place in my heart. I used to sing this to my late wife every time I called her before we were married, not because I thought there was someone else there, but for the opening 2 lines. It is so Ironic that I was singing this last night and was going to ask you to play it. If you want to know how it turned out, you'll have to listen to the sequal by Jeanne Black titled "He'll have to stay."

The song that messed with my mind when I first heard it as a kid was "Blizzard". I kept wanting to rewrite the ending in my own head because I just didn't want to accept the ending of the song. I still love it though and of course "Four Walls" is great as is "Blue Side of Lonesome" where he mentions a place that is so lonely and sad that "someone broke the bar mirror with only the ghost of a smile".

This is why I enjoy old-school country more than the so-called country that's out there in the 2020s.
Even as far into the 1980s, country songs often told a story. In the 2020s most (not all) of country seems to be written by people that THINK country music is about tractors, and farms and small towns.
Also, yesterday's country was done by singers and musicians who--for the most part--were not trying to be crossover artists.
2020s, some doofus thinks he is "country" just because he's wearing boots, jeans and a Stetson while singing about a pickup truck through his nose.

We all know there are a lot of stellar voices out there in any genre of music, but I honestly have to rate the voice of the late Jim Reeves as perhaps the best there ever was. I really don't believe your hearing Mr. Reeves voice. Listen again to the purity and velvet quality he has, and the flawless gentle vibrato. The emotional inflection he shows with each word. Pitch perfect, this was done before you could hide vocal mishaps with a machine. Many of his songs were done in one take with all the musicians and back up singers present. Yeah......listen again.

Jim Reeves has been my favorite singer since the first time I heard him years ago. I have literally spent hundreds of hours listening to his recordings. There are a couple of generations now that don't even know who he is. They are missing out on some fantastic music. Check out Larry Jordan's website "The Jim Reeves Way".
