I was lucky enough as a teenager to see Charlie in concert. His voice was so pure and genuine. What you heard live was exactly as he was in recording. Stunning performer. He had the audience's attention for the entire show. Not just a singer. I seem to remember he was dressed in a suit and tie as well.

He said, he never experienced racism from the fans, fellow artists, or the industry itself. He was a stand up man!

I've always loved Charlie Pride. Hearing his music takes me back to the 70s and 80s when I would hear his music on the radio while riding in my grandparents' car. Great music--great memories.

.....and still married to the same woman since the mid-50s! Crazy-Amazing person! It always blew me away that he and his family resided in the very conservative state of Montana back in the day....says a lot about the sort of person he is (as we know, things were considerably different then...in the days of the 8-track tapes).
I've always loved this man nice looking, indeed, and his sweet soul is apparent just hearing him sing and speak.
    Wonderful reaction --- Thank you!

Charlie was discovered working on a plantation...WAIT, he always spoke highly of the people he worked for and it was the Plantation owner that reached out to have his talents dicovered.

Charley was discovered singing in a bar in Montana while he was playing minor league baseball. His landlord told a couple of Country stars that were traveling through that they should go see him. They told him that if he ever got through with baseball to look them up in Nashville.

Good morning Don, yeah he put it down. Where the rubber meets the road. I remember the first time I heard him. Voice like honey.
You nailed it on empathy and compassion.I quote my sister after Momma and Daddy passed within a year of each other after 60 years of marriage. " Living on this earth without them is like living without oxygen" nailed it.
    We love deeply and completely.
    Keep it rockin!! Pam

Great song and a great man! Military vet, professional athlete, and he don't play that "kneel for the anthem" crap. And yes...he's also a Texan! Moved here in the late 60's and has lived ever since in Dallas. He's even part owner of the Texas Rangers. His son has a pretty good band out of San Marcos (yep, home of the Bobcats from your last reaction?) Keep doin' the music you're doing and I may have to write the Governor and submit your name to his list of considerations for future Honorary Texans!

Steel guitar, dancin' music, simple, direct, well-sung...don't think there's much of anything anyone should be able to complain about in this song. Love me some Charley Pride! I hadn't heard that song in forever! Thanks for sharing, and I totally agree with your rating. \0/

Hi Don, you played Lee Ann Womack's "Does My Ring Burn Your Finger?" & that song reminded me of Charlie Pride's song, "Does My Ring Hurt Your Finger." Glad you enjoyed it! Great review. I actually knew of someone that played this song, a 45, every time their wife came home from a night being out on the town. Please add Kenny Rogers', "Ruby, Please Don't Take Your Love to Town" to your list to review. Mel Tillis wrote that one.

This is the first song I ever heard by Charlie and was a big hit. This is back before everyone knew he was black. You should look up the story about the big kiss Willie Nelson gave Charlie on stage when he was starting out.
One of the best and saddest songs by Charlie is Where Do I Put Her Memory

    • @lindabeckworth8637
      @lindabeckworth8637 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Most already knew he was black and it didn't matter. We weren't living in the stone age! He appeared on countless country music shows including appearing at the Grand Ole Opry. We did indeed know he was a black man but we didn't care. He was gorgeous and had amazing talent..

She just started liking cheating songs was first John Anderson. I love Charley Pride, and I have his full discography. Please listen to "In the middle of nowhere" by Charley Pride, also, did you know that Charley Pride sold for RCA Records, ore #1 hits second to only Elvis Presley?

Oh my gosh this brings back memories. Don please react to an old country gentleman Jim Reeves song "I Miss Me." I don't think there's any actual video of Jim singing but the lyrics are along the same vein as Charlie's song here.

Great choice!! Ya can't go wrong with Charlie 😉 You should hear him sing the Hank Sr hit "Kowaliga" he adds a little flavor to it lol. Your reaction made me think of a Willie Nelson song "The Last Thing I Needed The First Thing This Morning" ... he's a little more gentle with his message than Charlie was lol. Chris Stapleton also did a version of it as well.

Loved your reaction. Charlie Pride was played since I was a little girl and loved him then. On a somber thought though, I was wondering if you've ever heard Toby Keith and his latest song, singing Crying for me (Wayman's song). Just seen it by chance and what a song. It's about the basketball player Tisdale (Toby's friend) and he was a basketball player, jazz musician and has passed away. Broke his leg and when he went to the doctor's, they found out he had bone cancer. Please listen to it and if you want to, do a reaction to it. Others have and it was great to hear what they had to say about it. th-cam.com/video/AHZCAcSh7ls/w-d-xo.html

Tony Joe White - Rainy Night In Georgia

His song has been covered by a number of musicians, including Brook Benton, Ray Charles, George Benson, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Al Hirt, Johnny Rivers, Hank Williams Jr., Nat Stuckey, a Conway Twitty/Sam Moore duet, Aaron Neville, David Ruffin, B.J. Thomas, Rod Stewart, Boz Scaggs to name a few.

There was no " black or white thing" with Pride as far as us country fans were concerned. Most of his fans were white people and we absolutely adored him. We didn't see a black man. We saw a wonderful human being and one of the best country singers ever. And very handsome by the way. This race-baiting gets tiresome.
