    GREAT VIDEO!

    So glad you compared it with the NTG 5. I own an NTG 5 and have been torn between the Deity V-Mic D4 and the Rode Videomic NTG. I was already leaning towards the videomic NTG, but knowing that it will sound pretty much the same as my NTG 5 means I can use the two on a shoot and know the sound will be consistent. Great vid!

    Thanks for mentioning the -20db pad and the volume control. I was getting clipping at the mic level (I was being too loud in sudden bursts) and it was clipping even though the camera audio never reached more than -12dB. I need to keep the -20dB pad on myself and turn the gain knob up if I want to talk in any kind of excited fashion.

    Should I buy this mic in 2023 or wait for newer models from Rode ? Thanks 🙂

    As Rode states on their website if you register your mic with Rode upon purchase you get an extended 10yr warranty and they will "happily help out"- if the battery fails within that time frame-You may interpret that anyway you wish.

    I think I’ve watched every review for this mic and this is by far the best one. Great casual presentation and details provided. Thank you for pointing out that a regular TRS cable would work. Subbed!

    What plugins and how did u edit it? Because this sounds better than other reviews. In other reviews it sounds loud and rough and not clean and smooth

    Excellent review. I already own, and love the Rode VideoMic NTG, so I already knew the stuff you reviewed, however I commend you on the clarity of your explanation. Especially the description of the -20dB pad vs the fader. The video curs also very professional, so well done!

    Ooooh! Good thing you did a comparison of Videomic NTG and NT5.. Really looking forward to buy a videomic NTG
    But are they good for guitar use and for Livestreams?

    Fantastic review - thanks. I'm loving my VM NTG. The comparison with NTG5 was very impressive which means this is a great on and off camera mic.

    Hello ZY! I am new to all this. I am a musician would you recommend the NTG ? I will be recording from my iPhone or iPad there will be backing tracks and “live” voice coming from my set of Bose speakers and woofer. But my guitar will have its own 12” speaker amplifier. It is relatively semi-loud overall in total. My new RODE microphone will be placed anywhere from 6-8 feet away. Please advise if you will and thank you.

    ZY, great video, but I was hoping to maybe see a cardioid diagram to ascertain how off-axis voice sound quality is when it’s boomed just above me in home studio. NTG5 is a Super-Cardioid Mic, so leaning tiny bit off-axis is permissible. Xièxiè 🙂

    For casual vlogging, would you recommend NTG or Video Mic Pro+? I'm in dilemma

  • @StevenSheeran

    Really enjoyed your review. Do you know if the NTG is limited in any way with what Headphones can be used to monitor from it? For example, could I monitor directly from the Mic with a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (250 ohm) Headphones OR would I need to drop to the 80 ohm model for them to work?

    Got this mic a couple of days ago and did a bunch of testing with my Sony a6400 record level set to 1, and the gain from 6 all the way to 12. But no matter what I do, I still get a "hissing sound" on the mic. If anyone got advice how to fix this it would be great. Even updated the firmware of the mic from the Rode website. Thanks

    • @JacReviewsStuff
      @JacReviewsStuff 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try the comica v30 lite. I'm using it. It's a dynamic mic.
      People keep buying Condenser microphones because they are "more sensitive so they must be 'better' yes?"
      Well you're getting a hiss because you're using a Condenser mic and those are too sensitive and they are picking up background noise. Or maybe it's "electrical noise" from plugging the usbc cable?

    No changeable battery :/

  • @YasinHasan
    @YasinHasan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    this mic is very tempting .. except the built in battery. maybe the NTG5 is double the price because it doesnt need a battery

    • @jambononi
      @jambononi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's double the price because it's a better microphone with very specialised build quality and is good in high humidity environments etc. The built in battery in probably more for convenience in the slightly lower end market vs the NTG 5 which doesn't need a battery because it will be used with phantom power anyway by professionals. I think the sound comparison wasn't the best just because it was quite an echoey environment anyway, so neither mic had much room to prove itself.

    One question : why have this mic on a boom and out of frame? It's a branded mic. Please show it in frame. It adds value. 👍👍👍
    I have a rode wireless go and I make sure it is always visible 😎 baller hahahaha

    • @RichardStrong86
      @RichardStrong86 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Because they're supposed to be out of frame. If you worked professionally and repeatedly couldn't keep the mic out of shot then you'd have a short career.

  • @GINFINITY
    @GINFINITY 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    A directional mic (or shotgun mic) should be a mic that records the sound that comes infront and not recorded side ways or backwards or in an omni directional pattern. Try more genuine reasons while you criticize. And please don't say it was a nice calm place where you can watch sunset🤣you made a traffic jam. LoL.
