    Most recently got a flat on my fixie cause I went over a train track too hard in West Oakland. Found a Lime e scooter and rode it back to safety one handed pulling my bike. Quite the adventure.
    I haven't had any flats on my MTB tubeless in about 4 years. I have had two on my gravel bike tubeless in 2 years.

    On my downhill bike I'm using downhill casing Maxxis Minion DHF & DHR II with hard-ply and Maxxis Freeride tubes (1.2mm thick tubes) and never had a single puncture even after 2 years of abuse, weekly riding, a week in an alpine bike park and even a Mountain Of Hell run. I also had many rim hits and the tubes never pinched from their thickness. It's a bit heavy for a trail/enduro but for a DH bike where weight matters less it's heaven.

  • @markparker5585
    @markparker5585 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Last April, first ride in the local woods after buying a new bike. The next morning, opened the garage to find two completely flat tyres. Both tubes had 3 punctures. Considering I hadn’t fixed a puncture since I was a teenager, some four decades back, that was a bit of a surprise. Yes, I did repair all 6 of them, and yes, I’m still on inner tubes. After repairing them, I was resigned to the possibility that my new fun time on a mountain bike was going to be spoilt by an endless procession of punctures; basically that when riding off road, this is just what happens. Only one puncture since then for the rest of the year, so I guess you could consider that first ride a tad unlucky.

Now here goes.....I have never had a flat tire on a mtb. (I’ve just cursed myself, haven’t I? ) plenty on the road bikes, zero on the mountain bikes. I live and ride primarily on the west coast of Canada. Lucky, I guess?

    Good Evening from Czechia :) Hey guys, I wanted to discuss something, I have been riding active fór a year now. And Im going to buy myself a brand new bike. Lets say that I am a big fan of Downhill, so I would really love if I got one, but there is the problem, all trails near my town arent bikeparks, so no chairlift. And I dont really know if dh Bikes have options like locking your fork so I could climb up the hill.On the other hand if I ever get in the bikepark, I like the dh lines, like all the speed and hard tarrain. Im not sure if I can get the same excitement on an Enduro like bike. Can you share your opinions and thoughts with me?

    • @MrAntwon87
      @MrAntwon87 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The biggest question to ask yourself is where will you be riding the most? If it's your local trails and then occasionally at the bikepark then look at an enduro bike (some are mini dh bike now anyway). Trust me, you will never want to pedal a dh bike up the the top of the trail, i push mine and that's on a small hill.

    I run 25 lbs front 30 lbs back and tubes. Tubeless is to heavy and the rotating weight of a tire multiplies the weight when rolling. Light means a longer ride. I guess my road riding is showing.

    • @tychoMX
      @tychoMX 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kevin Blanchard there’s no way a tube is lighter than the sealant for any tube size. Unless using those super tubolito tires.

      @kevchard5214 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tychoMX I am running Schwalbe Rocket Ron EVO tires both front and back with Schwalbe ultra light tubes. All tubeless tires must have a stiffer bead and the sealing liquid which adds up to more weight than I have. I switched from Panaracer Smoke and noticed a extreme difference in effort used to go up hills. The Rocket Ron tires are not aggressive enough for soft mud or sand but work great on hard pack and rocks.

    • @rupedog
      @rupedog 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kevchard5214 ALL schwalbe evo tyres are tubeless easy (TLE)-their even easier version of tubeless ready. Tubeless tyres dont have a different stiffer bead. But all are folding kevlar beads (lighter than steel beads/non folding on some non tubeless tyres).
      Tubeless tyres do have more rubber on the sidewall than old school non-tubeless ready.
      However, these days all quality tyres are tubeless ready, so tubeless is normally lighter.
      It also offers less rolling resistance (no tube-tyre friction), lower pressure capability=more grip, control and faster rolling (off-road).

    If converting to tubeless is a “no brainier” why are manufacturers still selling 2020 bikes with tubes?
    I have a Trek Fuel EX8 XT 2020 - one month old - and have to convert this to tubeless, why ?

    • @tychoMX
      @tychoMX 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a super easy answer : because it’s cheaper on brands and retailers. Imagine setting up a bike tubeless from the factory , have it sitting for 8 months on the sales floor. Congratulations, now your retailer has to dismount the tire, scrape off the dried sealant, set it up again in tubeless mode and refill with sealant.
      You can’t really risk setting it without sealant because of the risk of the tire unseating during shipping if it loses too much pressure.
      A lot of bike-spec decisions are cost related, not performance. See press-fit BBs (esp. some of the worst designs).

      U will gain so much grip and control if u halve that. Thats above the max of nearly every mtb tyre and will also increase off road rolling resistance.
      Neil is utterly correct on pressures, sadly lots of incorrect myths out there on high pressure=faster (only on tarmac road). But it will help prevent pinch flats with tubes, though not thorns/nails etc.
      Drop n tubeless, will transform ur riding
