    I think Isak on the left amd Wilson in the centre is definitely a second half tactic. Joelinton is far better on the left other than when we are sitting back. Longstaff is going to be missed so much

      I agree. Wilson has got to accept that he needs to play for the team and that his best contribution is running at tired legs for 35minutes or so, not managing himself over 90.

      I dont think we should use it at all i find isak on the left doesn't work for me it would be like putting Wilson on the left we just wouldn't do that. My only critical points of the game was the fact that we didn't take our chances when we had them and Also Bruno joelinton Wilson and isak just didn't have the best of game's these things happen unfortunately but onto the next game Howay the lads 👍

    At the first replay I could see it was 100% not handball but as soon as I saw VAR take ages to decide I just knew it would swing the game. It's very hard to be at constant pressure at home against a top team but not scoring and then VAR is essentially a tool that kills off momentum if the ruling goes against you.

    Definitely a frustrating match. But like you say, there's no shame in losing to the current best team. Especially when it could so easily have been a different result had a few bar rattlers gone in. Also, look what happened in the next few games last time we lost a match...

    As an Arsenal supporter I have to say Newcastle were great and have been a breathe of fresh air this year, along with Brighton. Manager Howe is fantastic. The first half could have been 2-2, 3-3 easy. Being in my 40’s I appreciate the physicality of this Newcastle team. No nonsense tough tackling. Xhaka was flopping all over to break momentum, but it is what Arsenal needed. Good luck to the Toon Army for the rest of the year.

    I agree Bruno and Joelinton probably had their worst games for us. It was a blip and one we know they will bounce back from. The emotion got the better of many in the team. Arsenal won the mind games and then ultimately showed their quality to go on and win the match.

    • @johnenglish929
      @johnenglish929 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, but my guess is that Bruno is affected by that injury which means that he often can’t do what he needs/wants to do, and that causes him frustration. We have a lot of players affected by cumulative exhaustion who need a good rest. I hope we are careful about who plays in the ‘promotional’ matches in the close season. We’re not the same team when Bruno’s not on song.

    How many times did Bruno get caught in possession? In fact the first goal came after he lost it in midfield. This happens every game now as he dawdles the opposition just run up from behind and steal it from his toes. THEN HE GETS ANGRY AND FOULS THEM WHICH GIVES AWAY A FREE KICK SO A DOUBLE PROBLEM. He needs to wake up and stop playing to the crowd. The other teams know his game now.

    Kept saying at the time, don't mess with a system that works and was sick of pundits and the media saying "play them both together". Joelinton does his best work on the left and got caught out of position a few times today which is unlike him.
    Regardless, if we'd been a bit more clinical with our chances we might have walked away with something and even with us being poor the lads came close against an Arsenal side that despite not being quite at Man City's level, are still a quality team when they want to be.

    • @providename
      @providename ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He would’ve played Joelinton on the left of the front three if Longstaff was fit. Isak up top and Wilson on the bench.
      But I agree with the point you’re making. Joelinton is not comfortable on the right of the midfield three. He does not have the tactical intelligence to switch sides of the pitch and maintain the same level of performance. It would be like switching Botman and Schar sides at the back - they become accustomed to the dynamics of their side of the pitch.

  • @iananderson2677
    @iananderson2677 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    We totally missed Longstaff (I hope he isn’t out for the rest of the season), priority to find a like-for-like replacement for him in the Summer. More shooting practice during the week I think….we had the chances but didn’t have the finish. It probably did hit the players leg BUT it wasn’t clear and obvious so should not have been overturned. We let them wind us up the whole game, including the ref. Normally at home the 50:50 decisions go for you but unfortunately not when you are playing a member of the cartel. Isak on the left is wasting his talent in my mind. Wilson was back to the form he was in after the World Cup, which you could tell by his niggly digs at the defenders. Burn’s weaknesses were shown occasionally but to be fair so were Trips defensive frailties. They doubled and tripled up on Bruno and Isak so there must have been space somewhere but we couldn’t find it. Having said all that where we are now compared to 18 months ago is amazing.
    Great match review, thanks Craig.

    Bruno and Joelinton do spend too long complaining to the referee about fouls, I remember when Bruno first came last year and he was getting fouled but what impressed me was the fact he didn’t even look at the ref never mind complain, he was totally focused on getting on with the game. As someone new to the league he wasn’t fazed or distracted by the physically. He needs to get back to that attitude, ignore the ref and focus on the next play

    Fair and balanced report, Craig - especially about Longstaff. The fact is we’ve got a good side but a thin squad and there was always going to be a time when that caught us out. Given the number of games some of these players have played at the level of intensity we play, it’s not surprising there are signs of tiredness. We are way ahead of where I thought we would be this season and top four is still in our own hands. HWTL.

    I think Arsenal had to show 100% concentration for 99minutes in that game. I bet they were relieved to have come through it. I mean the first goal was a great strike and well they have the players with the ability to do that. Newcastle still lack a bit of that star quality. And in tough tight games its quite often you need some individual moment of brilliance to turn the game in your favour.
    And Miggy came on and was totally anonymous. Fair play to Maxi he was running at the Arsenal defense but I didnt really see Miggy do anything.
    I think we can be proud of the performance but it was a real battle of a game. I always look forward to your video analysis, Craig. I think you are spot on RE the pen - rules are rules. The ref had a poor game but got that decision right. A lot of our big players were missing today - most notably, Bruno. If he played vs Jorginho 10 games in a row, he wins that battle 9 games out of 10. Just a bad day in the office for him a few other names.
    If we had of scored early on, I think we have the momentum would have been all us.
    Credit to Arsenal, their big players showed up (Odegard was class). Isak was double teamed and we just lacked that quality in the middle of the park with the creative passes from the likes of Bruno etc.
    MASSIVE game against Leeds mid-week now, almost season defining in my eyes.

      9 times out of 10 Bruno wins the battle against a heavily decorated Jorginho who has won trophy after trophy at the highest level? Jorginho showed his maturity and experience yesterday against Newcastle. When Bruno let his emotions get the better of him. Jorginho stayed composed and kept Arsenal going forward moving the ball quickly through the lines.

    Well craig we didnt put our chances away ramsdale i think for me posted the fact he is england no.1 pope i think is probs for me not the answer between the sticks . Arsenal did us ,, to the fact slowing the game down just shows they done us at our own game ...... Big big result for arsenal today not going to make a difference to championship which im sure is still going to go to city . Todays game on reflection is the fact that it shows isak and wilson both for me cant start the game . Wilson is better coming off the bench and/ or vice versa .... Bruno for me was ar best 6/10 .... looked over run in midfield oedegard was far superior , his goal we gave him so much space to pick his shot off . Missed longstaff , cant believe id say that !! .... Defence looked at times disjointed . Today it just shows the large gap in class between the top 2 and the rest . We have a massive game against leeds now with liverpool starting to show their form ....when you look at the top 5 teams again we have not taken much in the way of points away from these matches . This is something we need to do next season ....man city 1 point , arsenal 1 point , liverpool 0 , and manure only team we take a positive tally from ..... On reflection it just shows where we are , alot more positive than last season , its a base for rebuilding again on this seasons foundations . Lets hope its another minor blip and we get back on track , it certainly wasnt as bad as the villa defeat which was a poor performance all over the pitch. Lets hope we can pick ourselves up from this blip !! Good talking points again craig .....in eddie we tryst hwtl

    Bruno was shocking yesterday. That was his worst game ever. He gave away the most ridiculous free kick for their first goal. He grabbed someone around the waist and made headed the Arsenal player’s stomach. That was the phase of play that resulted in their goal. He did the same for Everton’s goal, gave the ball away cheaply. I love Bruno, but no-one should be above criticism or be absolved of responsibility.
    Wilson looked like he didn’t fancy it. There were times when he was closer to the ball than the opposition, yet they got there first. Willock didn’t fancy scoring against his boyhood club, probably a sub-conscious (though not deliberate) wish for them to lift the Title. JL, I thought played well and fought for everything. I would have taken Bruno off, before him. My son, who’s an U18 Academy goalie, said, if you watch their goal, Pope had plenty of time to adjust as the distance was far out. Pope didn’t step-dive, he wasn’t ready, on his toes, that’s why it found the net, not because of the bodies in front. We can’t criticise Pope, because he was the last chance at the end of that phase. It was a needless foul by Bruno.
    Additionally, booing our team off at HT, is a sh1te thing to do. Those fans need to be ashamed of themselves. Do they boo their children when they don’t get an A grade, or don’t win a school race? Would they like to be booed when they screw up at work? Why do they think that our players will react positively to being booed? They’re human beings and encouragement and support will have helped us win that game. Arsenal silenced us, which is what any good manager and team would have set out to do. If we want to stand together, let’s shout louder, sing louder and get behind the team when they really need it….it’s when we’re losing, that we need to make the difference. Any fan can sing and chant when their team is winning. We call ourselves the best fans in the league. Not from where I was sitting. We’re good time Charlies. Don’t retort with we came when we were shit. Perhaps if we’d cheered and encouraged during FMA’s ownership, we’d not have been so sh1t.
    It’s water under the bridge. We got away with it because the FA/PL wants the excitement to continue so ManU had an engineered loss, just like we did. (How many decisions went against us, which were clearly wrong? The same thing happened at WHU for ManU). It’s still in our hands. HWTL!

    Craig I understand what you’re saying about Pace at the back but which team has pace at the back🤷‍♂️ in general terms forwards will always be quicker than centre backs with maybe the odd example, so forwards being quick makes defenders look slower🤷‍♂️
    I’ll always go with what Howe picks team wise because we only judge off 90mins of football and don’t see what training brings and what they are working on depending on the opposition.
    Personally I’d go back to what has worked so well for most of the season playing Miggy on the right because he has a better understanding with Trippier and Bruno playing in that triangular formation.
    On the left is a much harder call again just my personal opinion I’d play Joelinton on the left Wilson up top and Miggy on the right keeping Isak, ASM, Murphy, and Gordon on the bench and it gives us more options if things are not working out the way we want them, remember Leeds have a terrible defence and they always have a mistake in them and they lack quality in midfield compared to Arsenal so hopefully keep it quiet for the first 15mins let our football do the talking and don’t get involved in a fight like we did yesterday and we should win this game.
    Only my opinion 🤷‍♂️

    The pen delay definately affected the team, as it affected all of us watching. However, what a great game from both teams we have come on so much this year and we can only get better in the years to come. I am delighted that people are starting to see just how vital to our team Longstaff is, in fact how vital a defensive minded midfield general is to any top team. Bruno, J7 and Willock don’t really have the defensive mindset. Oh how I would love Declan Rice in our team.

      No issue with Arsenal, wanted you to win the league. You were the better team and deserved the win. I will say the moaning about the way we played at The Emirates is a bit of a joke based on your behaviour yesterday. However, great team and played very well. We weren’t at our best which is frustrating but post pen you didn’t allow us to play well and I did think you wanted it more and I thought we expected to win and didn’t press as usual. It was clear to see that Bruno and Joe were getting frustrated with their game. Catch 22 playing both Wilson and Isaak at the start. Win and it’s excellent decision , Loose and….
    Was it a foul when Anderson was shoved off the ball by a defender using his backside ? Was Miggy dragged off the ball which lead to Arsenal running to the other end causing an OG.
    Arsenal did not stroll to a victory yesterday and to me Man City definitely well ahead on all levels. Several good buys in the summer and we will be competing equally with Arsenal as well as Manure, Liverpool etc.
    Have to add that for the first time Tripps was not his cool self and leading by example . I think there was frustration at how Arsenal had the ref in their pocket shown by their amateur dramatics with every contact and getting away with it.

That game proves that we need a proper left back ( Rotate with targett, the burn trick needs to finish) and two midfielders ( one DEFENSIVE 😠😠 and one more technical for foul etc. ) We know that our squad are mediocre and overachieving this year. 6-7 transfers for next season
