That brine eats everything. I long for the days of sand and people who knew how to drive in the winter. Thanks for the ride. Safe travels, and God bless.
We used salt and sand combo with the calcium chloride mixed in when I first started with SCDOT, then as the years went on we started using brine in saddlebag tanks hooked on to the sanders. Now they just spray it out of round tanks. I liked the early years better.
Opie's a pouter ? Hahaha he's tricking you dad. Really liked how you explained the better pay option with drop & hook or keeping the trailer. Telling us don't listen to you ? That's interesting ... Your a pro and we know better. THX 👍
Speaking of "good enough" there's a country road in Wisconsin, just north of Nelson Dewey State Park called "Good Nuff Hollow Road". It runs down to the Mississippi River from up on top of the bluffs and it lives up to its name. Great video as usual.
Thanks for the Christmas present Kurt, this video! If I could give it 2 👍 I would. Nice to see all the familiar sights on 20 east of Sioux City. Drove that road 2 times a a week until I retired 2 1/2 years ago. The new interchange at Iowa City appears to be complete. Seeing the new one makes me feel old. I remember when they built the original one over 50 years ago! Always liked the trip through Peoria at night. Looking forward to the continuation of the trip. 13:15 👍 you are spot on with your comment about the bunny. The new Italian owners brought those changes about.
yes does are much more tender. my dad used to always say when he saw a old buck that it was probably so tuff you would have to pressure cook the gravy just to get it to pour out lol. if you watch videos from the big name supposed buck management people when they are out hunting they are looking for the oldest biggest buck around and they usually get them during and due to the rut and then they look so nice and important and make sure too mention that they are donating that deer to feed the poor and then they go home to their own land and shoot does for their freezes
I must have missed a vlog or two. I didn't know Opie retired. I hope we get to see him in the truck at least one more time. Thanks for the great vlog. Love this channel❤
I don't recall Kurt ever saying it previously, but with Kurts back issue and sleeping in the lower bunk now, and Opie's hips being an issue, it's probably the best solution. Opie's been enjoying his home time and Kurt doesn't have to sleep on the floor of the truck.
Good to here you are coming to my neck of the woods. I’ve been a long time subscriber of your channel and I think this is the first time I’ve heard you coming to Erlanger (love it). I hope we treat you good here and you have a great day!
I haul that blue bunny load often. They unload it as soon as I arrive, usually the night before. I saw you sleeping by the casino lot a few weeks ago down by Kansas off of 75. I was going to knock and say hello but it was early... See you on the back haul. I enjoy the TH-cam content.
I hope when I finally get truckin I can learn to shift as smooth as you sir, masterclass as always Hope you and the family had a great christmas, safe travels friend
Stiff grease is the only thing for the fifth wheel. And always add a generous amount of grease on the pin. Yes lots of grease on the fifth wheel pin. Drop and hook is better generally speaking because usually the trailers are loaded before you hook to it to go to the receiver. The return trip may require waiting for a reload? On the other hand picking up a pre loaded trailer may sometimes have a flat tire or non working lights. There are advantages and dis advantages.
one thing you wont forget as a old truck driver is old days when you came in at 2am you back into shop.5 hours later your truck is buried in back and you had to move their trucks out to get yours out at 4am you choked in winter time gettig your truck out outa shop.mostly cabovers then.diesal smoke was taking your lungs away especially them high milers international eagles with twin stacks they ran them hard.they had a 150 trucks.i stayed there 5 years
Drop and hook is more convenient. I remember waiting for hours to get a door, or everyone is gone till the next shift, or the lift trucks broke down. Might pay better but I bet you can grab an extra load drop and hook instead of waiting. It's been twenty years since I was pulling the wheel. I do recall some places put priority on company drivers and independent drivers waited. Thank you Kurt.
Kurt, you have to try butterscotch & Cotten candy swirl ice-cream I told my mother, and she loves it. Tell Uber Dad thanks for my Calander. Happy New Year!
Better watch out for those land mines in the back yard. Moooo. Wait for the pain with your finger. Been there and done that. Thanks for the ride along!
I pulled reefer for a little while, i was told thermo king units are more fuel efficient, i dont know how true that is though. And yes you can pop start a truck in reverse, ive done it before lol
As it's coming to the end of the year I was wondering how many mile's have you done this year? And thanks for entertaining us . Have a great Christmas from across the pond.
I think your a good person. Smitten thinking about starting to truck again don't know if I can get a dot physical card or not had open heart surgery about 9 months ago
You got that right the good old days but that brine when they put it down is slick and the people who stop when they get at stop sign have a safe trip kurt and be careful i tell them it's not how you drive it's the idiots out there hope got first class ready for the trip cause weather only gets colder hope not grease last longer have a safe trip and waiting for next post glad you were home for Christmas with family be waiting for the adventure with Kurt
The way you doing it gives you more family time for events and we get to watch what is going on with your kids your very proud of and so are we Kurt and mom and Uber dad stay the way you are doing what you want thanks like third post but don't care
I live in Burlington, Iowa, 47 years now. Visited my Dad once in Minot, North Dakota and for giggles and grins he took us for a ride about 10 miles West to Burlington, North Dakota!
funny thing is the boss my boss dyed 1 year later and his younger son didnt want the trucking company. He wanted to start his own trucking company but big box trucks he made tons of money doing that in mpls mn
I hope you and yours had a great Christmas. That liquid salt 😊is horrible and so corrosive and you’re right it snows over it and then it’s ice. Nothing to do but wash it off asap. Havagudun trucker.
pull starting the truck backwards in reverse is no different than going forward other than going forward you put it in the highest gear on the low side of the transmission so it turns the engine over faster and reverse is geared lower so engine doesn’t spin over as fast
When they wash the truck does that include the frame also hope so friends truck hauling rock went to get rock got on job and frame broke behind the cab he had to be extracted from his truck so inspect your frame carefully just be on safe side just saying had it happen to a friend of mine so just mention it thanks Kurt
Still nice to see Peoria at night. We do go there to see my in-laws there, but at night it’s really pretty. Watch out for the left lane driving here in Illinois it is now illegal to stay in the left lane for a certain distance… glad to see Uber Mom is doing good, naps are great. Was good seeing “old Roustabout” too.. 😂 thanks for the views 😊👍🐕🐕🦺🐕🦺
I have a daughter and son in law that lives in Cedar Rapids Ia she's a vet tech in a small animal vet veterinary clinic and he is a mechanic in a car dealership.
Them round bales are against the law-the cows can't get a square meal out of them. Certain you have head that one. Bull hauler out of Montana got me with that today. Dang kids.
I grew up in Michigan out in the country I still own a house there I have 70 acres I have guns never hunted in my life I don't allow hunting on my property my guns are for protection self protection
jback in 83 i clipped a light under a bridge in chicago cop right in front of me i hit flashers he stopped i jumped outa cabover he told me back off this is a crime scene.figure it out yourself at 3am.their was 6 cars behind me so i just slowly pushed them backwaards what do you do.slight damange on reefer trailer.i reported it to compaany their like ohh thaaats nothing your fine
So you have all your authority and numbers are they your trailers or are you leasing them because I had my own authority and they were my trailers being I just stumbled across you station I was just curious
That brine eats everything. I long for the days of sand and people who knew how to drive in the winter. Thanks for the ride. Safe travels, and God bless.
I think that's called the good old days.
Come on up to Northern British Columbia, no brine, no salt, just sand and gravel!
We used salt and sand combo with the calcium chloride mixed in when I first started with SCDOT, then as the years went on we started using brine in saddlebag tanks hooked on to the sanders. Now they just spray it out of round tanks. I liked the early years better.
My dad worked for Thermo King of Omaha for 34 years. Most of that as a parts manager.
Love the drama of throwing the spray over your shoulder! And love that you picked it up! That's the kind of drama we need on TH-cam!
Lol
Cat sounds great. Glad the squeak went away when the brakes cleaned up.
Love your videos. Good vibes to you from Ballon Carlow in Ireland. Your truck is a peach.
Thank you
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and the family. May 2025 be a prosperous year for you. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Thanks and you too!
Opie's a pouter ? Hahaha he's tricking you dad. Really liked how you explained the better pay option with drop & hook or keeping the trailer. Telling us don't listen to you ? That's interesting ... Your a pro and we know better. THX 👍
"That's what she said" ... same thought came to my mind too Kurt 😂
Me too…..I hate my mind.
Occasionally I deliver to the Perfetti plant in Erlanger. Stay safe. Miss seeing Opie on the truck but understand the reason.
Kurt- thank you- it is pure joy watching your channel- God bless you and your family- happy Happy holidays 😊 😀
Drop & Hook for the win. It’s not about what pays the most, it’s about which is more profitable. Sitting is losing; moving is winning.
"Turning is Earning" or "Wheels Turning, Dollars Churning"

Hey Kurt! Just wanted to say Merry Christmas. Hope you're family had a great time! Please stay safe out there, brother! ❤ 🇺🇸 Git-R-Done!
In NE Texas we have a doe season some years and in some counties. Better quality meat than a buck in rut.

Really liked this video. Very informative on multiple topics.

You and Super trucker dan is all I watch any more, and yes the freight brokers are the problem. Direct shipping is the best rate.
Hey Kurt, next time you are heading South on 380 turning onto I-80, throw a wave down towards Mt. Pleasant, I'll feel it, and wave back!
one thing you wont forget as a old truck driver is old days when you came in at 2am you back into shop.5 hours later your truck is buried in back and you had to move their trucks out to get yours out at 4am you choked in winter time gettig your truck out outa shop.mostly cabovers then.diesal smoke was taking your lungs away especially them high milers international eagles with twin stacks they ran them hard.they had a 150 trucks.i stayed there 5 years
First time seeing someone go through the new I 80 I 380 interchange.

Where were you when you found out Jimmy Carter passed away. Watching a Trucking with Schmidt video.
We use the red mystic grease in all our operations
pull starting the truck backwards in reverse is no different than going forward other than going forward you put it in the highest gear on the low side of the transmission so it turns the engine over faster and reverse is geared lower so engine doesn’t spin over as fast

As a reefer driver I perfe thermo king
Sorry i ment west side transport in ceader rapids
If you can pop star them in Reverse but it's best to do it in high side
verify the SWR is balanced, so you don't take out the radio finals again
Erlanger is right down the road.......about 40 minutes.......stay safe bud
Ha! You are going to my hometown of Erlanger, ky! Next time you in the hood we will buy a breakfast, lunch or dinner!😊
Im suprised Opie lasted in the truck as long as he did. My GS only lasted the 1st 6 months and she's been home ever since.
