Pay attention to dress codes and where you are going. If you are approaching 50, ease off on the sweater and pipe look. Opt out for a leather jacket instead. Take out the ear ring. It didn’t work in the 70’s or 80’s and it still doesn’t work! Those are my suggestions!

I've learned that some one like myself needs to wear tapered dark slim jeans and to get them altered to fit my short legs. I've also learned that I feel more my age wearing some nice casual dress boots, instead of tennis shoes, to make me look and feel more mature. A nice long sleeve dress shirt, that matches your skin tone, with dark slim jeans looks great, with a belt to match the dress shoes. During the cooler times of the year I'll wear a dark pull over sweater, crew neck or v-neck. Yes I'm 64 but I don't want to look like an old man.
@@lorrimiller7010 Not true. Take a look into who the most successful Thoroughbred jockey's are dating and married to. You will be amazed at the tall, beautiful women who find confident, successful men, who can control 1200 lbs of horse flesh at full gallop, quite sexy in spite of their diminutive stature. Remember, "It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog." Only a person with a "small mind" like yourself, would discount a man solely on his physical stature. Thank you sir for making this video. I’m also in my sixties and your video has enlightened me as to where to start looking and what style to concentrate. I hope that you can continue to create more videos for men in their sixties. I retired 20 years in the Army and I want to thank you for your service. Semper Fi my friend!
Great advice Antonio, and don't think we don't need it. Today's 60 year olds were teenagers during Disco, and in college during the stonewashed, blow-dried 80's. What the hell do we know from fashion. LOL
There are at least 820 “likes” of this video, yet many of the public comments are quite harsh. I’m a believer that constructive criticism is far more effective than some of the comments which come across as a personal attack of Ricardo. Perhaps, room for improvement with the content, but I appreciate the time and effort Ricardo put into this video. I believe Ricardo is highly regarded by his peers, in the You Tube Fashion Commentary Community. Looking forward to seeing more of your work, Ricardo.
Really did not give advice on what to wear except don't dress like a teenager. How about more practical advice and pictures of what to and what to not wear? Guys in their 60's are retiring. We want tips on casual wear, what to wear day to day, running errands, etc. what's appropriate for summer, etc.
Antonio, this is why you are #1 in this industry and have the large number of subscribers that you do. Bravo Zulu my friend. Well said and completely honest and correct. Your Sr. SNCO's taught you well lol. Every one out there should watch and subscribe to your channel and those who are in the industry should take note and learn from you. What more can I say except, outstanding. Semper Fi.
Having been in the Navy for 20 years deciding what to wear to work was no problem ... it was a Uniform. Your site and info is very helpful, even a casual lay back guy like me can look better and appropriate for my age. Thanks for good input and advice.
I am 76, and I have a very careful not to be overweight by eating correctly. I can wear 30 in waist shorts and look good. It is about being secure over you are when you get older. It all boils down by taking care of your body.
Thanks for addressing the needs of the older gentlemen. Since 60 is just around the corner for me, I found your video to be inspirational and motivating. I look forward in discovering more of your videos for the older man.
From a 55 year old: Dickies classic slacks are a great start to a 50 yr old + Saturday outfit. Then decide on short, etc.. Don’t forget bling like a nice watch! 😀
I appreciate your advice and help, Antonio. I'm 53 and I find that some stores only really cater to younger generations, here in the UK. I want to look good, but of my age. So have to usually go to the gentleman's outfitters, shops. I don't want to dress too formally, for day to day wear. Can you give any advice on the three quarter length winter coat please. What kind of Jeans can I pair with that and a pair of round toe, shoes?
I'm 56 and I'm in pretty good shape, I wear jeans and boots tee shirts..i work out ,working on a six pack abs..i act the same way iv always acted..i make everybody lol,,I'm my self..love me or hate me..i don't give a hoot
That's true - and you might be able to do that in LA in your profession - but have you tried experimenting and testing for yourself whether look more professional will help you land more profitable gigs? Test and see for yourself!
Antonio, I am sure there is good information in there some where, but If I wast to be preached to I will go to church. I am 75 years old and I have no problem finding nice, well tailored suits and jackets. I prefer Brooks Brothers, Hickey Freeman and Hart Schaffner Marx, but I do have a jacket from Kohl's. A polyester gold summer garb. My tastes cost a little more but never go out of style. They are much much cheaper in the not so long run. It is out of print now, but picked up a copy of Dress for Success and learn something. This is the second video I tried to watch. I doubt if I will try a third.
If this video was about "How To Get Rescued Off Of A Deserted Island", you'd still be there Gilligan. Being 50+ and knowing how to use or owning the latest technology, doesn't mean that "you are an old man trying to keep up." What it signifies is that you are in step with the times and what's happening in the world. Let me put it to you this way: have you ever been on a date with a woman in your age group and the ONLY thing she can talk about is 1) Her next mani/pedi 2) What hair color she's going to use next 3) How much she and her friends drank at a recent party, etc. I could continue but if you're smart enough, you know where this is going. Being up on current events, what's happening in the world and that includes modern technology, puts a man at a great advantage in social gatherings or when he dates. Yeah being you and dressing according to your taste and situation is spot on but the key to being in style and dressing for a man in your particular age group is to not LOOK like you're trying too hard to do so.
Thanks for your useful advice. I am above 50, and I absolutely agree not to dress like a 20 year old. We should dress appropriately for our age. Appreciate it !
Thank you for your service and expertise. I'm 66, and paresis, (disabled), i walk slow, and neuropathy in my feet. I'll be traveling to Italy, for a few weeks. Thank you.
Normally, I would agree 100% on the rule "don't dress like a teenager when over 40" ( I personally know more than one guy who might well benefit from the advise)..but I also know a 58 Y O pal who looks amazing wearing rather modern clothes, and indeed looks weird when dressing "his age". And I have a problem with the notion about "society expectations". Apart from a business context, I don't see any reason to comply with them. Just wear what fits you, the people who would criticize your unruly behavior won't feed you when you'll be hungry...
Dont wear a ball cap or any hat most of the time, wear muted colors in good quality fabrics, no shirts without a collar, thinner belt, not always wear a tie, dont wear anything that advertises anything. Black or brown polishable shoes or boots, no white socks, no socks with sandals, solid color walking shorts if its hot out. Dont buy the most expensive iphone but no cheepie either. Wear no jewelrt except a watch, a good one but no fashion watches, nothing battery powered. Use quality wallet pref exotic natural materials, no velcro and dont fill it too full. No more than 4 keys on your key ring, you re not a janitor.
Wearing a watch shows your age, IMHO; since the introduction of mobile phones watches have become mainly redundant, both in terms of functionality and as status symbols. Having said that I am on the market for a diver's watch to time my swimming, and a blood pressure, pulse rate, monitor would be great.
If I go to an industry party I haven't nice black suit. The financial business is very different. They wear suits all the time. Surprising I have seen more Mid West agencies dress up more than the bigger agencies on both coasts. I forgot to mention when I shoot editorial both art directors and photo editors always dress casual during shoots.
I have been looking at you article on men's winter jackets but I cannot find anything about summer jackets. I am looking for a Safari jacket and similar lightweight light colored trousers to wear with it. However based as I am in Thailand and despite having tailors about every 10 yards here in Bangkok cannot find one that will make a Safari jacket. I will be in Europe during August and wanted something lightweight and very casual to walk around in but also lots of pockets. Not sure why a Safari jacket should be so difficult to tailor.
Antonio, thanks GREAT advice for those of us who have seen five decades+ pass....and you are SPOT ON when you talk about ripped/torn/shredded jeans....what idiot thought that was a good fashion idea? In the not so distant future people will look at those who wore ripped/torn/shredded jean the same way people now look at the once trendy men’s leisure suit. There is a reason classic men’s fashion/style stay looking great....it’s a classic! 👍
The creative world is a whole different ball game. Even at all the major ad agencies in both Los Angeles and New York both writers and art directors never wear suits and Levi's are worn a lot. They might dress a bit nicer for a client meeting but they wear what I wear and they would expect me to wear jeans during a shoot same holds for all film crews. All cameramen and women wears jeans along with the directors and writers. Only account executives wear suits. Producers wear jeans too.
Over 35 year ago I read a book based on the guidelines for business and casual attire published by IBM for their sales staff and executives, titled "Dress For Success." It is as relevant today as it was back then. I don't put a whole lot of stock in what happens to be the current trends in fashion for the follow reason, (this also describes my rule of thumb and philosophy for how to dress), "What's in fashion, is NOT always in good taste. However, what's in good taste, IS ALWAYS in fashion." I have a single piece of advice of my own, NEVER dress like Regis Philbin, a rap star or most any way a teenage boy dresses and you should be good to go. To date, that philosophy has always served me well.
Excellent advice. I might also add wearing a quality watch - really makes a statement that is very often noticed. The Panama hat (a GOOD one, not some department store knock-off) is practical and stylish. Vests are great and don't have to be stodgy 3-piece suits, a patterned vest with some color can be elegant and dapper - I can't begin to describe the positive comments I've gotten when I pull an antique pocket watch out of my vest pocket to check the time. I'm in tech, and people are blown away by the contrast (it also emphasizes that "old" can still be cool and functional!) Great vid!
Just hitting 50: Thank you very much for this video. I would love to see more videos for those over 50. (I just lost 100 lbs so I have to buy an entirely new wardrobe, so I have been really enjoying your site as I plan.
Congratulations 1964 on losing all that weight. I hope you did not use one of those fad diets or something more drastic. The best way to loose weight and keep it off is portion control and some exercise. As far as fashion wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident.
Both you and neilcoo just need to pump your breaks. Obviously you just listened to the video BUT didn't pay attention to it. Wearing a sport coat, a tie or even a Panama Hat, doesn't make you a carbon copy of your Grandfathers. What the gentleman in the video was saying was that you have to find a style that works for you BUT a style that's appropriate for a gentleman in your age group. And this may come as a shock to both you and neilcoo but that's not hard to do. The reason I know you two didn't pay attention to what this guy was saying was because you didn't catch the word "classics." A Panama Hat, sport coat and a tie are just a few of the items that men 50+ who understand style and pinache, have as staples in their wardrobe. A classic watch, cuff links, shoes and eye wear can also be found in the rotation of a "seasoned" gentleman who knows that classic pieces of clothing unlike "fashion fads" NEVER go out of style.
Hi Antonio, I have been following you for some time now and a big fan. I need help, I'm 22 and I'm tired of buying "tap out"shirts or those torn jeans. I'm tired of looking like those kind of guy. My question to you is, what should I be wearing at 22?
I just turned sixty and what I say to the younger guys is to get all you can while you can. The only thing good abt getting older is retirement. That's it!
I would add this: Try to avoid running shoes or sneakers if you're not jogging or at the gym. They are real fashion fails for older guys. This sort of falls into the idea of avoiding teen-age type attire.
Look at Gary V. He's not 50, but he's not young dude. He wears hoodies, jeans, knit caps and he's able to pull it off. The key is just to get/stay in shape.
Nice idea for a video but rather than find brands that suit you how about find clothes that suit you (I am over 50 and pay no attention to brand names but just buy the clothes that suit of whatever brand). I noticed that by saying brands this lead you into a plug. I agree go more classic. Like the hanger project by the way. If you are going to do commercials at least do them for something really good like that is.
I'd prefer that... From my point of view, numbers are absolutely unnecessary. For example: I'm a younger man, but I'm in love with the geezer style. So in this video I tried to find out what I can change. I compared the things I already do with the things you suggested. And obviously I do many of those things you suggest, except for using the latest iPhone/Android. So... That's the thing that stuck. The important information. The number is completely irrelevant to me...
ok I watched the video , now show me some models with styles , I work out look pretty fit , but I cant turn back time i'm bald and senior management style , I don't want to look like I think i'm a teenager . but I like your mention of the classics , show us how you think we should dress , first step to success find a niche in the market ( i'm it along with countless other men of a certain age )
I’m retired military and currently a defense contractor who spends some time each year in the AOR. I’m mid 50’s, and I only feel comfortable wearing “off duty” military type attire. I’m sure some people might not know what I’m talking about, so I’ll explain. For my shirts, I wear tactical style polos, brands such as 511s. But the main thing is that polos are my thing, most any normal looking polo will do. For my pants, I wear brands like Columbia, I guess they call them hiking pants or something like that. I consider them tactical pants. As far as my footwear, I prefer wearing military style boots and my favorites are the light tan colored desert boots that we used to wear about 15 years ago in Iraq. Under no circumstances will I leave the house wearing jeans, t-shirt, and sneakers. If you are 50, that stuff needs to only be used when you are in the yard working. I plan on using this look for the rest of my life, I think it will still work in my 80’s. Thoughts?
Thanks for this video, @ 56 it's nice to see, especially on your channel. Being retired Canadian military I get it.we are issued a sewing kit called a "housewife"...lol Thanks again.
I just turned 50 and my biggest problem is finding what to wear when I run errands (supermarket, homedepot, target). I live in hot South Florida and I usually end up making the mistake of wearing gym clothes when I do those errands. The imposter syndrome kicks in when I do that. Maybe I would feel better if I will run those errands after I workout, but I don't go to the gym. Any suggestions? A video with this subject would be helpful. Thanks.
In my creative world the creative people that hire me want me to dress like they and that is very causal. Most here in LA wear casual and a lot wear skate shoes. In a studio you are climbing all around and you are on concrete floors all day. I always dress casual surf sharp. No torn jeans or ripped shirts. Non wrinkle collar shirts unless I am shooting at the beach or desert where everyone wears T-shirts.
Hi Antonio, i am 51 years old, I still like to wear hoodies with jeans and sneakers (i like to match my hoodie with my sneakers) i also like to wear collegiate letterman jackets, moto jackets, and distressed jeans. Concerning headwear, I like to wear fedoras, panamas, western hats, and baseball hats. Can i still wear my western, chuckas and chelsie boots? What you think Antonio? I enjoy your videos.
I am 56 and a commercial photographer. I wear surfer/skate wear every day with shorts and Levi 505's. I do own designer suits and shoes for events. While working I wear skate shoes. I believe it all depends on what kind of work you do and living location. I live in Los Angeles.
I have found a brand of short sleeve casual shirts that I really love. They are called Vintage Silk Circa 1969. Very reasonably priced at Stein mart, a discount store for more fashionable clothing.
Properly fitted clothes such as suits. No extra material in the jackets and pants. I would also suggest tailored fit shirts if possible. People think that baggy shirts hide bulk when in fact they amplify it.
I was talking with a health specialist last week. I said, sure I ain't bad for 52, he said I was indeed good. I said and not so bad for 64. He said no way are you 64. I dress in rags when I do heavy manual work, around the house and in the garden. I dress in pair of shorts and t-shirt when weather is warm. I dress in full kilt outfit when I go out and to the theater. I dress as I feel comfortable. Sometimes a little underdressed, more often a bit over dressed. My mother advised me, you can never be too over dressed. It's my body, I will robe it out as I feel fit. And guess what, very interesting people make it their business to come over and talk to me. Every so often people ask to have their pic taken with me. What more could a guy want. I do have some great laughs when out and about in the kilt.
I am at the point where I don't care what other people think and if they want to judge me, go for it. I am old enough and ornery enough, I couldn't care less. I wear skirts that are very neutral and they are SO MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE THAN ANYTHING ELSE EVER INVENTED TO PUT ON YOUR BODY!!!!! They are totally redistricting like wearing nothing, but legal.
Stating that you don't care what other people think is the very evidence that you, in fact, actually do. Playing the "I don't care" ruse is an attempt to shield and protect your vulnerability in the area of fashion sense due to lack of knowledge about such. Chances are, that no one is going to judge you, they will simply ignore you, which is the real thing that you are irritated about.
High waisted pants? Gray flannel? This guy knows absolutely nothing about us older men. I'm 66 a nd still work out. Off the rack wranglers are great put that with a 100 white shirt a leather vest and a pait of exotic boots ( I use lizard and alligator) and you can go anywhere. All of us arent gray hairs. Mines stil lt brown. Be yourself. This guys a clown. Date youngervwomen. Men age like fine wine. Women age like milk.
No problem. Antonio also has a group on linkedin called real men real style and it's full of people who are both personable and knowledgeable about the art of dressing well. For a suit jacket the shoulders should end right around your natural shoulders. You should not be able to get more than a fist between your belly and the jacket button when it's closed. Dress pants should be worn at the natural waist just below the belly button. There are also great books by Alan Flusser.

I have a feeling the recommendation will be seersucker shorts, suspenders, sandals, and socks... argyle.
Good argyle socks are hard to find.
ive got to agree with you on this. need specific examples other than the use latest technology and not to dress like young guys
@@thecobra...1716 just felt this video was a cheap shot to satisfy us older guys Definitely no thought went into the making of this video...
@@cecilbrownfield6081 yes Cecil you got that right absolutely
Antonio, this is why you are #1 in this industry and have the large number of subscribers that you do. Bravo Zulu my friend. Well said and completely honest and correct. Your Sr. SNCO's taught you well lol. Every one out there should watch and subscribe to your channel and those who are in the industry should take note and learn from you. What more can I say except, outstanding. Semper Fi.
The tone of this video is so kind and considerate. It's such an easy listen. I wish you did most of your videos in this tone
I look forward in discovering more of your videos for the older man.
middleage NYer thank you for the kind words - appreciate it
From a 55 year old: Dickies classic slacks are a great start to a 50 yr old + Saturday outfit.
I'm 56 and I'm in pretty good shape, I wear jeans and boots tee shirts..i work out ,working on a six pack abs..i act the same way iv always acted..i make everybody lol,,I'm my self..love me or hate me..i don't give a hoot
perfect dress mode i like. i like you
That's true - and you might be able to do that in LA in your profession - but have you tried experimenting and testing for yourself whether look more professional will help you land more profitable gigs?
I doubt if I will try a third.
love that style. how are you
This is such a great video, short, concise and to the point with solid information.
Yea - the same for my old roommate Jason. His husband David is 5 years older.
Sharp and crisp 👌👍
Listen kid, you turn 50 and then give me advice. Until then, stick to what you know about, and being 50 ain't one of them.
5 tips to look like you are an old man trying to keep up, here is my advice, be you , dress accordingly to your taste and the situation.
Just wear what fits you, the people who would criticize your unruly behavior won't feed you when you'll be hungry...
too much talking. not enough information
Well done, Audrey. Thanks.
Many factors here - look for me to update my core articles but visit RMRS as I have about 20 articles there for young men!
Well, money often represents the ability to provide. So it makes sense.

Awesome video! Thank you for your excellent advice. Tom, 53, in Shizuoka prefecture, Japan
Exceptional. I wear loose fit pants, like guayaberas, linen, hats, meet your clothes to who you are.
Thanks
love that. how are you
A kilt. A 'timeless' classic.
looks good on any age male.
and you can be very formal all the way down to very informal.
I love the kilt.
I'm in tech, and people are blown away by the contrast (it also emphasizes that "old" can still be cool and functional!) Great vid!
i love the way you dress kevin
Just hitting 50: Thank you very much for this video. I would love to see more videos for those over 50. (I just lost 100 lbs so I have to buy an entirely new wardrobe, so I have been really enjoying your site as I plan.
Congratulations 1964 on losing all that weight. I hope you did not use one of those fad diets or something more drastic. The best way to loose weight and keep it off is portion control and some exercise. As far as fashion wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident.
Seriously? Sports coats, ties and a panama hat? I'm 52, yes I'm not gonna get a mohawk but I also dont wanna look like my freakin grandfather.
+neilcoo The important thing here is to not wear outfits like you're in your 20s.
Well said, William Jones.
im 23, i rock sports coats with button up shirts and ties :)
Amen
I’m 52 and a big fan of the Cremieux line of clothing.
You're right - I prefer the type that has a hidden sword.
Over 40 and beyond is about power dressing, confidence, style and sophistication.
Thanks my husband can definitely use this advice🙏
your videos are geting more and more advertising insted of advice....
Not going to stop wearing Rush shirts - you cannot make me!!!!
Amen to that, sir! Geddy has been the biggest influence on my bass playing.
Hi Antonio, I have been following you for some time now and a big fan. I need help, I'm 22 and I'm tired of buying "tap out"shirts or those torn jeans. I'm tired of looking like those kind of guy. My question to you is, what should I be wearing at 22?
Very smart tips.
Sounds sharp!
I just turned sixty and what I say to the younger guys is to get all you can while you can. The only thing good abt getting older is retirement. That's it!
Yeah but if you have money and excellent health retirement can be the best part of ones life. No more rat race.
Happy 60 years!. thanks for the comment.
Older men don’t know technology? I’m 56 and very tech savvy. The only tip that helped was don’t be afraid of the classics.
I'm 78 and I LOVE "Spezzaturo." 'Nuff Said. Big Smiles. CMJ
i love guys wearing that too
"That was supposed to be funny."
It was funny. Semper Fi!
A great video and advises, Thank you very much. Some people hear but not listening or do not want to accept as time goes.
Thank you!
What was the brand name of the jeans mentioned?
The number is completely irrelevant to me...
would this still apply if my body still looks the same as in my 20's?
ok I watched the video , now show me some models with styles , I work out look pretty fit , but I cant turn back time i'm bald and senior management style , I don't want to look like I think i'm a teenager . but I like your mention of the classics , show us how you think we should dress , first step to success find a niche in the market ( i'm it along with countless other men of a certain age )
Thoughts?
I've concluded Antonio lives in an alternate universe.
This video will definitely be useful to me 30 years from now
Good recommendations. As a guy over 50, I have learnt not to try too hard and to keep it simple. Look forward to few more episodes. Thank you 🙏
Your presentation has improved considerably!
yeah i agree
Very reasonably priced at Stein mart, a discount store for more fashionable clothing.
i checked that out and it's nice. how are you
I still have my fathers wooden hangers and shoe trees from when he was young in the 50's.
Properly fitted clothes such as suits. No extra material in the jackets and pants. I would also suggest tailored fit shirts if possible. People think that baggy shirts hide bulk when in fact they amplify it.
Nice pearl snap western shirt. Who makes that?
Great points, thanks!
You are welcome.
I do have some great laughs when out and about in the kilt.
love the way you dress. how are you?
I want to see the clothes we guys 57 and older will look good and stylish in.
are you 57+?. you look younger in the photo

Like this guy alot, great advice.
Great advice Antonio! Thanks

@Robert Blackford nope
You forgot to mention what style of canes they should purchase.
I do my videos in batches - so there are 4 videos with me wearing this shirt!
WOW!!!!! You look so good in that casual shirt.
