@@UPnDOWN that’s very cheap to tax for a ULEZ compliant little run about. Our registration fees (aka road tax) is the same amount for all light cars as we go by weight. Up to 4.5t they charge $900 Australian or about £465 per year. Over 4.5t they charge a different amount. Also we can’t do monthly payment they only let us do quarterly payment if we opt in. Which is about £105 each time.
I know you're joking about the number plate screw caps being skilled work, but the amount of mechanics that mess up plate fitting for new cars must be near universal
You should, as you're generally not visible from the driver's seat while doing this job. What if a "prankster" gets in, and starts it in reverse? It's accounting for the stupidity of others.
I remember back in the day buying a set of XR2 seats from a scrapyard. They looked like they had been piled up with oily engine bits but the scrapyard assured me they would clean them up if I left a deposit. I went back a few days later to collect them and they looked brand new!
The other day I saw a 1.1 with a carb, and the carb version has a straight pipe without the restriction, so maybe there's your new pipe, OEM from factory 👀
For the grease stain on the rear seat, try a product called "Elbow Grease". It's magic for degreasing. Basically as good as brake cleaner, but is a water solution spray which doesn't seem to damage fabrics. "Elbow Grease" is also brilliant for degreasing engine blocks! By the way I bought a Mazda MX-5 once, which was making (I was certain) a noise consistent with a bad rear wheel bearing. I limped it home because it got worse as I drove home. I immediately ordered a new wheel bearing, only to discover when starting the job that the rear wheel nuts were all loose and the rear wheel was about to fall off. The car had a new MOT. This was five years ago. The car is long gone, but I still have the new bearing!
When I get a car I always loosen and torque up all the wheel nuts / bolts. They are usually initially too tight so it means I know I can loosen them at the side of the road when needed. On the other hand, they may be too loose but it will fix that too!
