    Since February 2019 I have purchased three Security 9 pistols. I really like the guns (even more than my Glock 19 Gen 5 and my Sig Sauer P320 XCompact). However, one had to go back twice to Ruger for repair. The first time was for a broken hammer and a broken firing pin (so much for titanium). The second time was for a broken firing pin. The tech called me up and asked me if I had had the slide polished. No. Ruger decided to destroy the pistol, retire the serial number, and replace it. Another Security 9 had to go back before it was every fired. There was a problem with the slide lock. If I racked the slide with an empty mag, the slide would properly hold open. If the mag was then released, the slide would not go into battery when sling-shotted until anywhere between 3 and 14 tries were made. Ruger replaced the slide stop assembly. For now all Security 9 pistols are working fine. I have two EC9s pistols. They have gone back to Ruger for repair a total of five times: broken striker, stuck barrel and slide, and frequent failures to feed. My LCP II has gone back twice for repair: the first time because the extractor was ejected while I was shooting at the range; the second time was for 5 new problems caused after the "repair": (1) magazine would drop after every shot; (2) magazine hold open after last shot only worked half the time; (3) when it did work, the slide would go forward when the magazine was dropped; (4) expended shells would fly over or hit my head instead of flying out to the right; (5) frequent failure to feed. It's working OK now after the second trip in for repair. I also use Hoppe's #9 and Ballistol, with cleaning rods, patches, and bore snake. Thanks for the video.

      Wow, that is some story. Thankfully, I have only purchased one, but, truthfully, I haven't been shooting it much since i bought it. Last may I bought my first Harley Davidson and have been busy enjoying it ever since. I need to get out and shoot soon. Sorry to hear about your experience but glad to hear Ruger worked with you so well to try and make things right.

    Q tip is ok, get some cotton patches to dip and put thru barrel to give it a good clean and lube. A small nylon or toothbrush works great for those small hard to reach areas. Put some gun oil on the contact areas of the slide and frame but a little oil goes a long way as it can attract carbon.

    Good job on the video man. The only thing really that I would suggest changing is maybe put an initial disclaimer stating that there are many different tools that people prefer, many types of cleaner and many ways to perform the job. Garrett Doughty The snake has far softer bristles that the steel in any gun barrel. You won’t see benchrest shooters using them because they are looking for consistent shot to shot accuracy. A wet patch is all they’re going to use but on any “duty “ pistol they work great.

      Interesting question....hmmmm, personally I would call it a smooth shooter. My little Ruger LCP II 380 is snappy. I wouldn't really call the Security 9 snappy. It is a pleasure to shoot. @@JP1970 Thank you for taking the time to respond. I really enjoyed your video. As a sidenote, as a new gun owner I've been watching youtube vids for hours...and day...trying to absorb all I can to make an educated choice about keeping the s & w .38 spec which I inherited, find one that fits my hand better. $$$ is a big issue. I'm a senior on a limited income and I've read and heard very little negative about the Ruger Security 9.
      My big problem with this kind of research is that most men rarely say anything that might be of interest to women., i.e. such as grip for the smaller hand or recoil for women who are not muscled up. These things. Maybe you might include us in your reviews? Thanks for listening

      @@brendaandersen4241 Very good points, and i think I understand where you are coming from...I'm not sure how to include the "woman's perspective" in my videos, but I will give it some thought. You know, gun stores are pretty good about letting you hold different guns and see which fit your hand best. And, if you wanted to have them sell your 38 on consignment, the ones I frequent do that too, or they will buy it outright. Hope this helps.

    Guys, i just got a brand new compact security 9 with laser sights, and while i played with it and got a feel for it, the firing pin and its spring fell right out the rear of the slide. I had a heck of a time getting it back in, and i just want to tell you all to be careful and be aware of the possibility. I dont know why it happened, but i know a pin holds the firing pin in place, and I'm seriously considering supergluing that pin in place.

      @@JP1970 As far as I know, I fixed it myself. I was doing things like testing the trigger, testing how far out of battery it could be to shoot, resetting the trigger and pulling it multiple times, and during all that, the pin and spring came out. I looked up how to put it back in, and after doing so, I haven't seen anything getting lose ever since. I think the little internal hammer got caught on the pin that secures the firing pin and pushed it lose.

    I read one of the comments about putting the guide rod in wrong. Is one end different than the other so you can tell which is front and back? I ordered one today and it won't be in for about a week. I really enjoyed the video too.

      @JP1970  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mcleod55, yeah, I think it is something you have to pay attention to when disassembling the gun. Just look closely and put it back the way it was...I seem to recall getting it wrong the first time.

      I will do that, sir. I have been distracted with learning to fly drones lately, but I will get to our local range and put some lead downrange and discuss the Sec-9. Thank you for the request!

    the fact that you had Ballistol in the background told me you know what's up :) Just shot my new ruger today. A $600 gun for less than $300. Love it.

      @@JP1970 just a tip.....soak the barrel before you do anything else. Let it sit in that ballistol. I swear it's like it soaks in to the metal. I think ballistol is what Clark Griswold used on his sled. Haha.

    What is the rail on the lower made out of? It looks like it is part of the plastic lower.

      Either metal or polymer...depending on which rail you refer. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      Ron Crane yeah, good constructive criticism, my friend...this was an earlier video I made when I first started on TH-cam. I think I have gotten better, but it is annoying when one records oneself and catches all the little “filler” transition words one uses. I suggest you try it sometime-not as easy as it looks, but thanks for watching and commenting. Hopefully it was helpful. ✌️
