Crime and Punishment is a much easier read and just as good as Brothers Karamazov. I would read it first. I think you would like Don DeLillo and Jonathan Franzen. Have you read any of their books?
I don't read contemporary romance very often, but I had a good time with All Rhodes Lead Here! The Death of Ivan Ilych is also on my list though I'm not sure if I'll get to it this month. Great variety of books! Happy reading! :)
I'm impressed by how eclectic your taste is so early into your reading journey! I feel like it took me years and years to branch out from dystopian and fantasy novels.
Oh man, The Death of Ivan Ilyich is a masterpiece IMO. Yes, it's depressing on one level but very thought provoking. Has a strong existential quality to it. February is the month I'm reading as much Arthur Conan Doyle as I can. Have never read any Sherlock Holmes.
I have to give Sherlock Holmes another chance now that I'm older. Tried reading it in middle and high school and it put me to sleep each time, but there are plenty of other classics I didn't like when I was in school but love now
The Beartown series is fantastic!! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts. Also, I started reading Small Things Like These because of your enthusiasm for it and I’m loving it so far! I’ll probably finish it tomorrow. Thanks for introducing me to Claire Keegan:)
Fredrik Backman is one of my favorite authors! His writing stirs up a lot of emotion for me. I own a copy of everything he’s published and I’m anxiously waiting a new book from him. Hope you enjoy!
I am at halfway point of The Martian by Weir and it is a bit out of my comfort zone(usually into juvenile fiction/YA fantasy)but it's a very interesting read. After that I'm gonna read the rest of the Kane series by Riordan.
Got hooked on Keegan via your recommendation and I plowed through 3 of her books over the weekend. Really good stuff. So Late In The Day might be my favorite.
I finished Beartown at the start of the month, and I haven't stopped thinking about it. A rare 5 star read for me. I've just ordered the second in the series and I'm hoping it will be just as good. I hope you adore it too! At the moment I'm reading a contemporary romance called 'We Just Clicked' by Anna Bell, and I'm listening to 'Project Hail Mary' by Andy Weir. Very out of my comfort zone, I don't usually read sci-fi, but I'm trying to have more variety in my reading this year.
I’m currently reading The Idiot by Dostoyevsky and The Death of Ivan Iliych, along with trying a few audiobooks (First Love by Turgenev) 😂 it just seems like a Russian literature month for me.
My daughter is insisting that I tell you to read Crime and Punishment. She thinks you will love it. You have me very interested in this Bear Town series. I have added them to my wish list. I have a couple recommendations for you. These are books I really enjoyed…East of Eden by John Steinbeck, Night by Elie Wiesel, and The Good Earth by Pearl S Buck. They are all amazing!!
Ahhh. The Beartown series is one of my favorites. I’m rereading one of my favorites for Bookclub - All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood.
I know people are recommending Brothers Karamazov because is Dostoevsky’s magnum opus but I really think you should start with Crime and Punishment, Demons, or Notes from Underground because Dostoevsky builds upon all his ideologies in those book and then in TBK he brings them all kind of together in one epic narrative. I think it would be best to get a few other Dostoevsky books under your belt first before taking on TBK just so that you can gain so much more appreciation for it. NfU, C&P, and Demons are all masterpieces in their own right as well so you wouldn’t be selling yourself short by starting with those. I think it would simply enhance your reading experience with Dostoevsky even more to read his big five masterpieces more chronologically instead of starting with his big culmination and his final novel. Just my thoughts, take them or leave them:) Regardless, I’m really excited to see you read whichever one you end up going with and I have really enjoyed discovering your channel and hearing you discuss the books you enjoy. Thanks:)
Already finished Yellowface via audiobook! I'm going to finish Misery, then decide on a few from my stack of very interesting books. I'll try to finish Dune before part 2 comes out. Then I'm thinking Piranesi, Klara and the Sun.
Stephen King is my favorite author as well. And I have to tell you, the Bear Town trilogy are some of the most enjoyable and loved books I've ever read. If you enjoy the first one you'll definitely have to add in the next two to your March reading 😊 Thanks for sharing 👍
I absolutely love Jon Krakauers writing, I've read into thin air and into the wild. Under the banner of heaven is sat on my shelf ready to be devoured at some point. Excellent writer 🤌🏼
I’ve heard that’s one of the best translations of brothers karamozov to get. A lot of people that teach Dostoyevsky recommend saving Brothers K for last but who knows. I’ve yet to read it yet because of intimidation factor too
Great tbr list, Beartown is a great book takes place in Sweden. There's three books in the Beartown series and I really enjoyed them. Currently reading Night Shift by King and so far I'm loving it. Have you read any Grady Hendrix or Nick Cutter?
I saw you show Stoner by John Williams in a haul recently. That was one of my favorite books from 2023. It’s a short read, but the ending was maybe one of the saddest things I have ever read . Also Beartown is an amazing book! One of my all time favs
Just read Ove it was good I had already seen the movie so now can’t wait to read Bear Town I have the first two books already just need to be in the mood and not so busy cause these past months have been so unbelievably unpredictable and unbalanced. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 awesome picks hope you get to read them all.
I might have to check out Claire Keegan because of your vids. I’m reading Name of the Wind and Midnight Tides (Book 5 in Malazan Book of the Fallen) Happy Reading!
I've heard such great things about Bear Town! I'm currently half way through End of Watch by Stephen King. Next on my list is The Outsiders and probably a shorter book or novella after that, before starting If It Bleeds.
OMG DOGGO! Sorry, I just got a brief glimpse of a German Shepard in the background near the end of the video and got really excited. Dogs are the best! Fitting since you show Cujo XD
Take the plunge and read War and Peace. It was the most rewarding experience I’ve ever had. It is not difficult at all and is very absorbing. Read the Pevear and Volohkonsky edition. 😊
I am wanting to get to The Last American Vampire by Seth Grahame Smith in by the end of February. Been on my TBR forever and finally getting to this read.
Since you seem to like the shorter novellas. You should read And Every Morning The Way Home Gets Longer and Longer but Fredrik Backman. Very good short read.
I think if you already like Dostoyevsky you won't struggle too much with Brothers. It's such a page turner with really deep characters. Don't be in too much of a rush, and enjoy the ride!
I read A Man Called Ove by Fredrick Backman and like it. Will try Beartown. Haven't read any Stephen King; really liked Stand by Me, so I'm willing to read a short story compilation. The romance your wife recommended has a new cover and I don't like it, at all. Don't judge 😂
I recommend “Crime and Punishment” by Dostoevsky. Language can be challenging but it’s about a law student turned killer because he was driven to madness
I would not start off with Karamazov when it comes to the larger Russian works. Lowkey War and Peace, despite the length, is much easier to read and better for beginners.
Sorry, but you’ve gotta gotta gotta start with A Man Called Ove for Backman. I’ve read Ove, Beartown, and Anxious People, and while they’re all good books, Ove is by far his best. To put it into Stephen King comparisons, it would be like starting off reading The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon instead of Pet Sematary. Dont do that…
Crime and Punishment is a much easier read and just as good as Brothers Karamazov. I would read it first.
I think you would like Don DeLillo and Jonathan Franzen. Have you read any of their books?
All of Fredrik Backman's books are gold. but BearTown series is amazing. You will feel all the feels.
I don't read contemporary romance very often, but I had a good time with All Rhodes Lead Here! The Death of Ivan Ilych is also on my list though I'm not sure if I'll get to it this month. Great variety of books! Happy reading! :)

Instead of TBR, use POP (pile of possibilities). That's what another booktuber suggested. It keeps the door open for changes.
I love this
The Beartown series is fantastic!! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts.

Great video! Nice variety of books titles. I'm also stoked for the upcoming Stephen King short story collection. "Cujo" is really great. 😎📚👍
I’m currently reading The Idiot by Dostoyevsky and The Death of Ivan Iliych, along with trying a few audiobooks (First Love by Turgenev) 😂 it just seems like a Russian literature month for me.
Love your channel Nick but I will say that intro was probably the most Canadian thing I’ve ever heard 🤣🫶
Truly a comfort, chill watch!

I finished Mayflies recently and thought it was fantastic, hope you enjoy it

Under the Banner of Heaven was so great!
Oh yeah, Beartown, one of my favorite books of all time. Yes, it's hockey but soooo much more.
Great tbr list, Beartown is a great book takes place in Sweden. There's three books in the Beartown series and I really enjoyed them. Currently reading Night Shift by King and so far I'm loving it. Have you read any Grady Hendrix or Nick Cutter?

For romance books, I enjoy Abby Jimenez,'s books and some Taylor Jenkins Reid. One True Loves and After I Do.
I might have to check out Claire Keegan because of your vids. I’m reading Name of the Wind and Midnight Tides (Book 5 in Malazan Book of the Fallen) Happy Reading!

I usually don’t make lists, but I’m currently reading Beartown and East of Eden. I do have The Bluest Eye on deck.
i just finished reading into the wild and loved it!! i’m going to have to pick up under the banner of heaven soon😁
I am wanting to get to The Last American Vampire by Seth Grahame Smith in by the end of February. Been on my TBR forever and finally getting to this read.
Beartown was great. I'll be reading the second in the series as soon as I'm done with Lonesome Dove.

Haven’t started it yet but was pumped to find “Small Things like these” by Claire Keegan because of your recommendation!
Since you seem to like the shorter novellas. You should read And Every Morning The Way Home Gets Longer and Longer but Fredrik Backman. Very good short read.
I think if you already like Dostoyevsky you won't struggle too much with Brothers. It's such a page turner with really deep characters. Don't be in too much of a rush, and enjoy the ride!
have you read Foster by Claire Keegan? it’s my favourite of hers
I would definitely read crime and punishment first before Brother K. Crime and Punishment is easier and I found it my favorite of the two.
I love Claire Keegan !
War and Peace!!!! I read BK twice and it is one of the greatest books ever. Now reading Anna Karenina. Russian lit rules!
50 pages into The Brothers Karamazov and I love it
This makes me want to check out mayflies, just added it to my library queue
I read A Man Called Ove by Fredrick Backman and like it. Will try Beartown. Haven't read any Stephen King; really liked Stand by Me, so I'm willing to read a short story compilation. The romance your wife recommended has a new cover and I don't like it, at all. Don't judge 😂
Adore Backman but for some reason I haven’t been able to get into the Beartown trilogy.
I recommend “Crime and Punishment” by Dostoevsky. Language can be challenging but it’s about a law student turned killer because he was driven to madness
So Late In The Day is fantastic - enjoy!

Be ready to have some FEELINGS while reading Beartown

Sorry, but you’ve gotta gotta gotta start with A Man Called Ove for Backman. I’ve read Ove, Beartown, and Anxious People, and while they’re all good books, Ove is by far his best. To put it into Stephen King comparisons, it would be like starting off reading The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon instead of Pet Sematary. Dont do that…
