Just picked up a book I'd highly recommend. The Full Moon Coffee Shop by Mai Mochizuki. It's about a mysterious coffee shop that has no fixed location and is run by talking cats and it helps people figure out their life woes. It's really charming!

I watched the Exorcist in 8th grade at a sleepover with my best friend and it was one of the movies that initiated our every Friday horror movie night from Blockbuster. Now feeling sooo nostalgic for those mems :) It's also a favorite for me!

I read Travels with Charley. It's Steinbeck "in search of America", but to me it was more about an aging person searching for themselves, looking for continued meaning and relevance. Loved it and I love Steinbeck :)

@@biteofdog I feel like this is a book that we get more out of with the experience of aging. It's interesting how books will usually hit us differently at different stages of our lives.🤔 I hope you do get around to reading it again :)

Steinbeck is easily one of America’s greatest writers. Most definitely on the Mount Rushmore. Travels with Charlie is superb. It’s short and it’s non fiction about a trip he takes. Very cool to see America in a different time period. It’s safe to say any Steinbeck work you pick up, is gonna be worth your time. Love the channel, keep up the good work!

The Exorcist is my favorite horror movie of all time. I'm reading the book for the first time now. I saw The Blair Witch Project in the theater when it came out and actually hated it. It wasn't till years later that I watched it again on DVD and I loved it!

  • @neorich59
    @neorich59 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

When we went to see Blair Witch, we were held up from going into our viewing and a voice came over the Cinema tannoy explaining that we were late, because someone had thrown up, during the performance and went on to warn us that the film was _really_ disturbing, so we thought "great!" 😉😉 When we came out, we both said "was that _it?"_
However, for a few days, I found the final scenes (no spoilers) really playing on my mind and troubling me...delayed reaction, I suppose.
My favourite, although I'm not sure it "counts" as a "horror" film is the original 70's version of The Stepford Wives, I watch it often and it _still_ unnerves me.
There were _so_ many classics made in that era, Exorcist, Carrie, The Shining, etc. etc. but The Stepford Wives, always stands out, for me!

The Strangers is one I recommend to anyone who doesn’t watch a lot of horror. I made all my friends in college watch it every Halloween. Just the jump scares, the ending, just enough gore but not overly done and those shots where you see things the characters don’t just make it great.

Very jealous of your weather! I'm fully ready for spooky season, but it's been 105° the first week of September still here in Fresno. Doesn't quite fit the vibe when even my midnight movie watching it's 85°.
    My top 5 horror:
    5. Zombie Flesh Eaters
    4. The Haunting (1963)
    3. Hereditary
    2. The Wicker Man (not the Cage version lol)
    1. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (easily the best horror movie ever made imo)
Honorable mentions to The Thing, The Exorcist, Possession, Cure, Audition, Onibaba

  • @gcpoulides

For me it’s The Ring, saw it in theater midnight showing when I was high school, was awesome! Have you and your wife been together since you were teenagers, Blockbuster? We haven’t had them in the Philly area for over 20 years and I think you’re a year or 2 younger than I!

Just watched “where evil lurks”. Dude. This movie RULES and is very scary. Subtitled as it’s in Spanish and takes place in Argentina, but made it even better. WATCH IT. Also the Blair witch project freaked me out so bad when I watched it with my brother and my friend when I was 13, that I demanded to go home with my brother to his house cuz my parents weren’t home. I got made fun of for that for years!

    The Lighthouse (2019)
    Blair Witch Project (1999)
Let The Right One In (2008)

You should definitely check out Lake Mungo if you haven't already, it's one of the most unsettling movies i've ever seen. Some other favourites of mine are the 1989 made for tv adaptation of The Woman In Black, Black Christmas (the original 70s version, not the awful remakes), It Follows, & John Carpenter's Halloween.

Not hugely into Horror movies but I gotta weigh in with American Werewolf, The Lost Boys the original Ring (the books tend to go off on some weird ass journey, though) The Frighteners, Alien/Aliens, Black Sheep was pretty good. Society, Rose Red (Stephen King mini-series) Gremlins 1 & 2, Fright Night, 13 Ghosts, Deep Blue Sea, Final Destination, Idle Hands. But yeah, not really into horror movies 😂🤪

I agree with the Blair Witch Project! I’m afraid of watching it now and ruining how scary it was for me.
And the strangers! I watched that at a sleepover in middle school and remember not sleeping after that 😂 haven’t watched it since. I would love to revisit that one

  • @wolfme4030

Gotta say The Blair Witch Project never really fooled me. Yes it is creepy and scary, but the acting didn’t sit quite right with me. The biggest nail in the coffin though was that the missing posters had the 555 area code all American movies use so people don’t try to ring the number. Would I still recommend it? Yes. It is still worth the watch regardless of real or fake.

Have you read anything by H.P. Lovecraft ?? and if so, which did you most. enjoy. The stories I keep going back to are the Randolph Carter cycle of 4 stories/novella (The Statement of Randolph Carter; The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath; The Silver Key and Through the Gates of the Silver Key). All were written during the 1920"s with a perspective of the time that HPL was writing (post-WWi and the decadence of the '20s). TGSK was written later as a revision after E. Hoffmann Price published his sequel to Dream Quest ... titled The Lord of Illusion detailing what actually happened to Randolph Carter. As an aside, Lovecraft was a very odd gentleman not only was he a racist and a misogynist but his diet only consisted of bake beans and ice cream.

I'm 800 pages into Wizard And Glass and feel his past could have been stated in a couple of paragraphs. The mystery of Roland is now gone. It should have stayed a wonder, at best. This forth book was completely unnecessary. I don't like it.
