60 Year Old Goes From Having A Mortgage Free House To Being An Invisible Homeless

  • We met Shawn sitting against the wall quietly hoping someone would pass by, give him some change and talk to him. He had an electric wheelchair by his side. He was really happy that we took the time out to speak to him. He turned out to be a really funny guy to talk to and made us laugh quite a lot. However, hearing Shawn's story really touched our hearts. For someone to be of his age and be homeless is a shame for our society.
It's always shocking how presumably civilised people treat the homeless worse than animals. Shawn told us that people spit at him and he has also been stabbed. Shawn is someones dad and its horrible to think how it would be if this was our parents?

Homelessness is a growing issue for the UK with more than 300,000 people living on the streets. Many of these people don't even make it onto the official figures.
The Unseen is an organisation we set up to give Homeless people a platform to have their stories and their struggles heard. We also want everyday people to have an opportunity to understand what leads a person into being Homeless. We at the The Unseen believe that everybody has a responsibility to help the unfortunate.
We want employers and regular people to support the homeless towards getting back into work and off the streets.
We hope their stories can touch the hearts of many.
Living on the street is no way to live.

Why is a man of this age living outside.
This government wastes money on fancy projects ..and feathering their own nest.
The scum that abuse homeless..are despicable.

Just a person down on his luck. It can happen to any of us. Sad to see.

What a heartless daughter and wife and never bother to find out what happen to the father,

Even worse is that his ex wife wasn’t prepared to help in anyway for if nothing else, the sake of their daughter. I don’t blame his daughter as much as she would have only been 15 at the time and now obviously living in another country, she might not be fully aware of what went on depending on what her mother told her and simply lost touch.

Does sound a bit weird that they just fucked off to America and never bothered with him again. We don’t know why he got divorced though? He might of been a right Bastard?

If the man is in a hostel, why is he outside? Also, if he worked for 37 years, shouldn't he qualify for a pension?

Usually they aren’t allowed to stay there during the day and the hostels usually charge between £4 & £10 per night so if even if you do find the money, their is still no guarantee they will be accepted due to space. Especially since the lockdown started for obvious reasons. Sadly their just aren’t enough hostels currently to be able to cope. I used to work at Southwark Cathedral in London and I got to know some of the homeless men and women who taught me so much about what it’s really like out there. I get quite passionate about it because during the first lockdown, the government bent over backwards to get as many off the street as possible, only to kick them back out once it finished, instead of seemingly trying to help them find somewhere permanent to live. Then to make it worse, during the really cold winter months, the government did absolutely nothing to help them and hope they didn’t catch Covid on top of all the other things homeless people have to deal with during winter.
However, it’s perfectly ok to house countless illegal immigrants who come here usually via several safe European countries which obviously includes France to get to Calais, to illegally come her in the dinghies via the English Channel in 3, 4 & 5 star hotels indefinitely, because a former army barracks that is good enough for our soldiers is inhumane and beneath their acquired standards. I must apologise as I didn’t mean rant their, I guess I’m just having one of those day’s.

Makes it even worse when mp's stepped over/around a dead man in London not so long ago that died near parliaments entrance.
Totally agree with the immigrant statement all for helping but charity begins at home then outreach others and help and if no room send them back or move them on.
