I was basically a relapse king until January 11, 2015 when I finally got sober for good. When I’ got locked up for 10 months on January 11, 2015 I decided I was done with alcohol and drugs. While incarcerated I kept to myself and basically just thought about recovery. Read as many books as I could about recovery. I alsoGot my body back into shape. I basically use this time in jail as a launching board to start my life again. It’s been Almost 4 1/2 years since I was released. I’ve been going to regular AA meetings ever since and Changed everything in my life. Life is pretty good today. I can’t wait to be able to go to meetings again.
Stories like these are both inspirational and yet can be a cautionary tale. At times addiction grips you so strong that it almost turns into instinct no matter what it is. It can be a phase but it can last a long time that it becomes a habit. To those who overcame it congrats. The best solution for me is do not try it ever.
I'm on my 5th day clean.....I'm been slave to heroine for 2 yrs ... I'm 26 now .... I'll thanks to this lockdown because of which I'm being sober... I tried many times to be sober but this withdrawl never let me...I'll always loose to my withdrawal. But because of this lockdown due to covid 19 no one is finding heroine in state...so I'm bound to be sober ... already pass the fucking 1st-2nd day of worst withdrawl...I think this time I'll make it...
Jaerken Matt Kenechi well done mate, you’re basically past the worst part. But now you have to stick with the hardest bit for the rest of your life. Add me on Facebook if u ever need someone to talk to or just vent or if you are having cravings, please make sure you reach out!!! FACEBOOK: Lorah Barber... all the best with everything prayers are with you! don’t be shy to ask for help and support I’ve been fighting the fight for 10 years. X
Hi Jaerken we are happy to hear that you’re clean, , remember it might not be easy but it always worth it, You have this community for anything you need.
If you got some short term substitutes to make wd easier.. Use them.. The real work starts once those pass.. Then it's hour by hour if you must.. It takes time to rewire your brain and be strong enough to tell yourself no, once you feel the urge.. What helped me was menaging to always think about sickness afterwards.. After decades, even if you make a 5 year brake and relapse for just one day, you will feel physically bad for three days afterwards, never mind the mental anguish of failing, guilt, etc.. just have someone non judge mental who you can say that you relapsed right away.. I had at least two long term active addictions because I would hide because of shame.. But until I realized, if I allow my self "just this one more time", but aware I will be hurting for 3 days after.. Saying no to impulse started being easier.. Every next time you resist it, you get a little bit more in control.. Good luck man, never to late to make a positive change.
Thank you for sharing this story. I'm glad to hear and learn from their journey to sobriety. Cheers to this man! You're doing a good job and keep it up.
Good on you dude i can relate to alot of his story iam also in recovery coming up on 2 years clean now after 6 years of heroin hell and iam never looking back....keep up the good work dude
I love this guy!! I love him and his wife!! He's a tattooed artist and he helped me get sober in Phoenix. His wife works at this art place called, Art of the Soul. I love them with all my heart. I owe them everything. I love you guys

17 was my year of the most drug usage. I tried weed and got high for my first time and found it fun so I did it again and again then I tried taking a break for a month but I have no will power so that didn't happen and eventually my brother started telling on me and my friends started telling my brother. With alcohol I loved getting drunk, I was doing it by myself even. I shoplifted liquor and wine multiple times and was drinking. My dad found out about me stealing and drinking and was often having a talk with me. I eventually laid off the alcohol when I was 18 and now-a-days whenever I see alcohol I don't get very tempted to wanna drink it. But, I still have a problem with weed, not as bad as when I was 17 but I'm still smoking every week or almost every week. There were really only two times where I went sober for over 3 weeks, the rest of the time it was only a few days to 2 weeks
if you're just smoking weed during the week, I wouldn't say that's out of control by any means. unless of course you're in a position where it's absolutely controlling your life, i wouldn't assume you're in a bad spot. keep your chin up!
You’re basically a normal teenager LOL. Trust me man, some light alcoholism and being a stoner is way too many teens right now. Please feel blessed you didn’t fall into the trap of the hard drug lifestyle especially when you were young. It leads to nothing except regrets
The people among whom we share our thoughts are the source of upliftment or depreciation in life if we are not aware. So, we should choose our company or friend circle properly.
I don’t know if people like this deserve infinite chances. When you consider the people he has hurt and the lives he has affected for good, eg the mothers of his children. Can’t help but hope he just keeps himself sober and to himself these days.

Sorry to say but I don’t think you had a good life or a good childhood because by the way you express yourself and actions you have a Lot of hate pain inside of you childhood trauma makes a person take the path of substance abuse in the traits that you have I hope you’re doing good !!!
You obviously have no idea what it is to struggle with inner demons. You don't choose to be addicted to drugs. You try to self medicate with something that makes you able to function everyday and feel better then you fall into a dark pit known as addiction. We do it to ourselves, true, but does that mean we don't deserve help? Does that make us bad characters?
I liked his story really helps hearing someone be so open and recover from their mistakes.

True addiction is not a phase. It is rewiring of the brain that never goes away. You either are in recovery or an active addict.

Jail is without a doubt the hardest place to stay sober in. One wants to escape every living moment of it and drugs provide that much needed escape.
Indeed!
I like the people who demonstrate that it is possible to stay sober in jail. Some have been sober in jail for many years.
Sincerely, this story is amazing and it will help people of your calibre. Thanks for sharing this.

Do any of you folks know the name of the instrumental music they use in these videos? Thanks
So bullying was the trigger

Indeed! all boils down to support system (family and friends) and upbringing.
