    My everyday driver is a 1997 FZJ80. This 25 year old SUV is truly one of the best long range off road vehicles ever made. Very simple routine maintenance is really all that is required to keep these running strong.
    Biggest mistake people new to the 80 series make is they don’t do a baseline maintenance/repairs when they buy one. These are 25-30 year old trucks. Things wear out no matter who makes them. Most of these have 200,000-300,000 miles on them. They will need a bottom end engine rebuild soon so you had better have a plan for that if you are going to own one.

    These really are great rigs, I drive my 97 every day! And love it! Keep up with pm,s and they live long and go anywhere.

    A 1997 should have had an A343F paired with the 1FZFE (still a sufficiently beefy transmission, but not as beastly as the A442F found in earlier FZJ80's). The example you're presenting is a little rough but well within the realm of being worth saving. I love my 1997 LX450. This is going to be a fun project for you guys.

    This land cruiser does not have the "bus tranny" you speak of. The bus tranny, A442F came in the 93-94 and some very early 95s. You have a 95 and up...Still a great transmission that shifts way better than bus tranny, but is considerably smaller..

      the a343f* is as bussy as any other.. infact up until the a750 all of them are pretty much the same.

      and you are on cause your name is land cruiser life or you can tell the correct codes - toyota made them for the exact purpose of being a bus tranny up until 2005.. drive an ls400 ul know

      @FzjClay ปีที่แล้ว

      Yessir you are correct! I have the a343f in my ‘97 fzj80 3X🔒. I have been doing a bunch of research trying to gain some knowledge on the different models. Getting ready to do a full flush and filter/strainer change on mine which involves dropping the pan :/. But yeah man I think they are both good transmissions. Which do you prefer ?

    • @LANDCRUISERLIFE
      @LANDCRUISERLIFE ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FzjClay no issues with either one of them, besides replacing shift solenoids on the a442f bus tranny (which is like a 20 min job).. The later of both, a343f shifts way better, 95-97 80s feel more responsive because of it....If I had to pick I'd pick both.. a 93-94 80 and a 95-97 80..lol...

    You guys need to, and I mean absolutely need to flog it up tracks. You should see how they go in Australia. Thing is literally the 4wd that does almost any track if it has the right tools and a good driver. From muddy big holes, river crossings, steep rock crawls and steep muddy hills. If you have a Triple locked 80 you have no excuses even if it is at the stock height.

    Odd, I am in the U.K. and have a Landcruiser 80 with the 1FZ-FE and it definitely does 0-60 in 10 seconds. I had to replace the cat and it was noisier. Am certain that the original exhaust is very restrictive.

      @Texas Truck Channel when they changed the engine from the 4.0L to the 4.5L they changed the transmission too, that mustn't be the original one, I have had multiple cruisers, and a good mate of mine has wrecked out a large number of them, and both he and I can say that should be a 5 speed auto, the fact that it's not, makes me wonder if it's the original one or not

    • @TexasTruckChannel
      @TexasTruckChannel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s odd, the Land Cruiser didn’t get a 5 speed auto until 2003. Ours has a factory spec 4 speed auto. Although it is possible that it was rebuilt at some point we suppose.
