Now for the big question: what would a super cut look like? Which cannon and legends books would you combine? Granted after the fall of the empire the timelines diverge pretty hard but which legends books are worth bringing to cannon and which cannon books are worth bringing to legends? That would be a hard video to make but now that you have both timelines you at least know what all is there.
That's a topic I have been thinking about for a while haha. My plan is to not necessarily make a timeline video, but one that provided a list of every Legends novel that doesn't have major contradictions to Canon and vice versa. Thanks for the suggestion!
Excellent video! Just a note: The creators behind the Bad Batch addressed directly that Dark Disciple is still completely canon and that they worked Assajj in a way that made sense to the book. But, its going to be fully explained in future media. How and when? Only they know for now.
Thank you! I am aware of the comments The Bad Batch showrunners have made, but as of now, without an actual reason for Ventress being alive, I think it can safely be assumed the the book’s ending has been retconned. In my opinion, the only way it isn’t retconned is if TBB Asajj is a clone.
What an excellent video! As a new reader to the canon books, coming from all of the legends books, this was extremely informative. I would love to see your personal ranking list of the canon books. Thanks again and keep putting out such great content!
All of them certainly give the characters a bit more polish, and some do include references to the broader Canon in the stories. I personally think the one for The Last Jedi does a great job of expanding on the film. That being said, they don’t nearly add as much to the movies as the novelizations for the Prequels did back in the day.
I do especially recommend checking out the YA books. A lot of them are very good, and they are taken pretty seriously when it comes to the continuity. Claudia Gray, one of the most prolific authors in Canon, got her start in YA novels, which has elevated their importance. The middle-grade books are far more average than they were in Star Wars Legends. Some of The High Republic middle-grade books are worth checking out, but most of them don’t have important stories in them.
It's a shame that the novels of Episodes 1, 2 and 3 aren't cannon because, for me, they're more enjoyable than the films. The films are fun but the novels for me hit harder. Being inside the characters heads gives certain scenes much more emotions weight. I love the audible versions.
I wish they were too. I understand why they aren’t because of their occasional references toward Legends only material, but they could’ve just edited those out for the most part and made new “Canon” editions. They’re all excellent novelizations!

Thanks! That's a video I'm planning on making next month after I get to read Mace Windu: The Glass Abyss and The High Republic: Tears of the Nameless.
Great video as always! These are super helpful every year. So glad you did a 2024 update
Thank you! So glad it helped

Happy it helped!
I’m not very familiar with Star Wars but now I know the timeline of star wars 😂
Glad you know it lol
Are the movie novelizations any good? Are they better than their movies?

Do you guys recommend the YA and the M school books ? Or they don’t have any connections with the “adult “ novels ?? Thx
