I was a pilot and instructor in Brazil with more than 10000 hours of flight time and I really get emotional watching your videos, as I have no experience with turboprops. The second screen you place, with the PFD and MFD, is spectacular, and the top view allows we to see the position of the power quadrant. Really genius your idea, we can see what we really want to see! My congratulations!! Note 1000 !!
Unfortunately, I could not include ATC communications. Rules are rules.
F the rules
It's understandable that you couldn't include ATC communications due to regulations. Safety and confidentiality in aviation are critical, and it's important to follow those rules.
I'm curious - this is the first time that I have ever heard of ATC comms being somehow 'secret'. I can listen to those comms on my radios near to where I live, almost anywhere in the world via liveatc web sites, and on every single Aviation YT channel I have ever watched... until this one. I find it very, very puzzling that you omit ATC comms audio.
Fascinating to see the pushback procedure in such detail from a different viewpoint. A very interesting video - thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
While I never expect to fly any distance over water, this is a great video just in terms of mentally thinking through the different stages of flight…climb, Cruise, being aware of traffic, being aware of conditions where you’re going and planning for arrival accordingly. Thank you from a simple private pilot in the US!
It is more comfortable to fly over water with two engines!
Hello captain, this is the cherry on the cake combining all the tutorials you made in one straight shot
Thank you for sharing, it is so valuable for us.
Consistency, work, commitment, dedication, make better pilots
You rock 👍✈️
Brilliant stuff! Fascinating to see many of the topics that you’ve talked about put into to a single video like this. More of these please!
What an amazing unique place to fly. And what a rapid expansion & development the Male airport and surround islands have undergone.
Thank you for taking us along for the ride!
Thank you Capt, Would love more of these in cockpit views.perhaps with ATC Comms
I loooooooved it! What a great video and an excellent way to describe what you do. I'm not a pilot, but I love airplanes and enjoy watching the work you do in the cockpit. Greetings from Chile. (sorry for the bad english, i'm using google translate haha)
Excellent flight video Captain. Cheers!
Excellent presentation for aviation enthusiasts. Thank you!!!!
THANKYOU..this is a real treat to av-geeks like me... I'm actually in med school and Soon to be a doctor !
Lovely video capt!
Fantastic 👍✈️ Hope to see more of the same
Amazing video, thank you Captain!
Thank you Capt!
Amazing, thanks captain!
Thanks for the video captain.
Dear Captain Nordal,
Thank you for taking us with you!
I'm absolutely in love with this aircraft, especially the 72 variant. I flew with Finnair on a 72-500 in 2003 and in 2022 with Binter Canarias on a 72-600. I have to admit that i prefer flying with this type of aircraft than the big airliners like the A 320 or the B 777. I just feel safer in the ATR. I don't know why 😅 Maybe it's the humming sound of the turboprops.
Two questions. Why did you receive a pushback here? Is it prohibited to perform it with the aircraft yourself on that airport? And question No 2. At 33:00 do you only brake with the reverse thrust or with the pedal too?
Greetings from Germany
Hi. As a pilot, I prefer the 42 variant, because it is the original ATR. It is more nimble, has better performance, and it lands softer. Pushback is mandatory at Malé Airport, even when there is space to make a 180 turn under own power. This is mainly for safety reasons, but also to avoid the propellers from blowing dust towards passengers walking in front of the aircaft. For the same reason are we not allowed to use reverse. When I landed, I used light reverse and touched the brakes before the 180 turn at the end of the runway. If I had used full reverse and maximum braking, we would have stopped halfway down the runway. But there is no reson to do this, as the engines must cool down for at least 2 minutes after landing before they are shut down.
@@FlywithMagnar thank you for taking the time to answer and explain! I wish you a wonderful start into the week :)
Nicely done!
Very cool Magnar, didn't know you relocated to Maldives! How badass would it have been if you were the PIC on my flight to Dhaalu? Although it was with a different airline :) Keep'em coming!
Unfortunately, we do not fly to Dhaalu. This is the base for Manta Air.
Great Video :) Too bad i didnt have you as Cpt. when i was om Male in April. by the way, love the FS2Crew for the ATR :)
Wow, this was a very well-produced presentation, Mr Nordahl! I highly appreciate that extra effort - as an “old” media-worker…
Greetings & good landings from Særp… 😊👍
Degernes her.
Excelentes datos antes del despegue, me suscribo
excelent explain . I live here near the accident.
Nice video and nice landing, cap.👏
I want Captain Tan to make a clip of him flying at the airport in Thailand. Very similar to this video clip. I really like the sound of the ATR engine.
I swear watching gave me anxiety! Wish I could sleep wheb traveling but I can’t. I just pray and ask God for mercy and protection.
new subscriber here captain! awesome videos! captain, a walkaround video would also be awesome ☺
Greqt vid captain..would have been nice if there was comms too
Hello captain first of all thanks a lot for your videos those are top for simmers! Any chance have a tutorial video using Fs2crew?
Thank you. 😃
Amazing! My dream to become a pilot
Muy bonito el vuelo, excelente ❤❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏.
Juste thank you
captain
Excellent 👌👍👏❤️🙏
Thanks for the video, Captain. Why did you turn on the strobe light during push back? We listen to ATC all the time on TH-cam videos. If you cannot include ATC comms you should allow us to listen to the pilot comms.
Ops! My mistake. Of course, I turned on the beacon light.
Hi Magnar,
Thanks for the nice video :) Given the fact that the ATR (or maybe more turboprops?) has a 'prop brake', does that mean the ATR does not have an APU?
That is correct. Saves weight and maintanance costs.
Hi Magnar, I enjoyed watching your video seeing how different ATR operators fly, just a slight notice, how come at your operator you dont use told card for your operator? I dont think i could see any below the CDLS. And how come your acceleration altitude is so low? at my Operator we use 1000Ft AAL or depending on performance calculations
Do you mean the takeoff and landing data card? It is not required for ATR with glass cockpit. It is removed from the FCTM. Minimum acceleration altitude is 400 ft, and it is up to the operator to define it.
@@FlywithMagnar ah thank you i didnt know that the told card wasnt required, at my operator we still use it on the 72-600,thank you for the information!
Sir, why does the speed climb only reach 160 instead of 170? And also, after CLB mode, the pitch is lowering to increase speed. However in MSFS, sometimes there's a warning "don't sink" because the nose pitch is almost below 2.5 degrees.😅
The climb speed for ATR 42 is 160 kt because it is lighter than the ATR 72, which uses 170 kt. When you select climb power, engine power is reduced while the target speed increases to climb speed. At high weight, this may result in loss of altitude during acceleration. ATR 600 with standard 3 software has a protection that prevents altitude loss during acceleration.
Great video! Could you explain why an assisting CA required during t/o and landing?
The company has 2 cabin attendants on all flights, even when it is not required by the regulations. The ATR 42 has only one CA seat in the cabin, and therefore, assisting CA is seated on the observer seat during take-off and landing.
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
I can see you are using VNAV IAS mode for departure. I checked in FCOM and can see that it is used for SIDs where you have step climb restrictions. So I guess you have airports with this kinds of SIDs?
How well does the aircraft transition from VNAV ALT to VNAV IAS after having flown a level segment? Usually I think the aircraft pitches too much if manually switching from ALT to IAS at a high speed (so I usually use PITCH HOLD if not in icing), so how well does the aircraft perform in the VNAV modes?
ATR is teaching pilots to use VNAV IAS as default mode for takeoff. The reason is that the crew may fly from airport where the SIDs have step climb restrictions. There are no such restrictions in the Maldives, but we use VNAV IAS anyway as it doesn't make any difference. Now and then, we fly to India or Sri Lanka, and there might be SIDs with step climb restrictions there. Anyway, it is better to have this habit than not. I have not flown the transition from VNAV IAS to VNAV ALT, but the transition from ALT mode to VNAV IAS mode is identical to using IAS mode.
GREAT !!!
Legendary captain maganar
Let's do this
My friend recorded you landing at dharavandhoo
Great!
@FlywithMagnar
I even recorded you taking off from addu
Спасибо! Engine parameter please
Give me more GoPros!
@@FlywithMagnar😂😂
I thought atr could climb at 180kt, maybe 200kt.
✈✈✈✈✈✈
👏👏👏🧑✈️
Super human skills 🫡
No synthetic vision, just like the big airliners don't have. bizarre
synthetic vision?
@@harveywilde6781 it's an aviation term for having terrain data displayed in 3D from the right GPS position and direction so it's like looking out the window so you can see even in zero visibility
@@DanFrederiksen You meant like those on Garmin / Honeywell Avionics?
Well, those are (relatively) new tech on aviation. Although the -600 is from 2010, their avionics were developed in the 90s. It is a derivative of Airbus (Thales) avionics.
@@harveywilde6781 2005. Not that new. And renewal is possible.
@@DanFrederiksen Yeah, I know. But testing and certification for a new system is very expensive and takes a long time. There's no insentive working it into the current glass cockpit system. Besides part 121 and some 135 required TAWS anyway.
A lot less stressful than driving a Grimsby inner town bus.
Thanks for the video captain.
