In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

I really wish you had shown how to make a structure map. This is a really cool feature and you can supposedly choose the width of the side scan area to record to make the structure map so you don't have a bunch of dark area.
This is really helpful! I use a 50/200 sonar with down scan today, but really would like to purchase a sonar like this with side scan. witch one are you using her? Or do you have a tip witch one to buy to my Hook Reveal 9?
If you use a 50/20p transducer then im assuming your in saltwater. In which case I probably wouldn't recommend this unit cuz it only does 83/200 and is really meant for fresh water. However, if you are using it somewhere warm like the gulf and arnt going too terribly deep then it will work.

I just bought a Eagle 9 tripleshot, I cannot seem to find any tutorial videos on it. I read that the eagle is the replacement for the Hook. does this mean that this tutorial will work for the eagle?

It should have by itself. Make sure the plug is all the way in. Then maybe a soft reset on the display. With the unit off, press and hold the Pages button. Then press and release the Power button. But continue to hold the Pages button till you hear the double chirp sound.

Yes it does. You just have to press the arrow buttons to bring up the crosshairs on the screen and then move them over to the structure which will then let you save a waypoint.
It depends on how you want to offset the depth. If you are trying to take into account the depth of the water inbetween the surface and the transducer, then you set it to a negative number. If you are trying to add in the depth of let's say a keel sticking down below your vessel and the transducer that is located above it, then you would set it to a positive number.

Hmm.. it should automatically show up as an option in your Pages menu.. you might try doing a soft reset on the display while the transducer is connected. If that doesn't do it, then go to your Settings, then select System, then go down to the bottom and select Advanced. When that screen comes up, I think its the Features option that you will select and then you should see Side Imaging as an option to turn on. Once you turn that on, it should then show up as an option in your Pages screen.
I have noticed some fishermen using a different megahertz range on sidescan than on downscan, is this necessary or can both be ran at 800mgz? Default has both at lower range to give more coverage but I'm hoping to be able to use 800mgz for both when I need the detail.
It just really depends on your water conditions. Typically 800 is the best option for downscan, but iv noticed on many occasions that 455 is better on side imaging. But sometimes 800 is better if the water is really clear and relatively shallow
@@nightanddaymarine8823 That part I understand, can both sidescan and downscan be set to 800 without interference between the two? People with Hummingbird say it causes problems. That's why I was asking you. I usually use 450 on both while searching down a creek or channel but need to increase to 800 for more detail. Can they both be on 800 at the same time or just one of them?
@@ramondanderson6730 there is no interference if you run them on the same frequency because the signals don't really overlap one another. They are very narrow thin slices of signals unless traditional sonar that can interfere if running the same frquency. Some of the displays won't even let you operate them on different frequencies.

Hi, in the start, I hear you say the (black) water column stretches out 20 feet to each side, and that you do not see the bottom right below the boat …..this is not true in my view…..the water column stretches 20 feet down, as the boat is on 20 feet of water…..and structure or fish right under the boat close to the bottom shows up in the picture close to the 20feet distance line on both sides of the centerline. So the bottom seen at both sides at 20 feet is right under you, but 20 feet down. Fish further out to the side will show op at their distance from the transducer as light hits them (as if iluminated by a torch) and cast a shadow on the bottom where the straight line from the transducer to the fish hits the bottom……kind rgds Henrik
My understanding is the same as yours… The empty area in the centre is the water directly below. When you start getting structure on the display, that’s when you start counting the distance to either side. For example, if you’ve got 20 feet of water below, you’ll only start seeing structure at the 20 foot line either side, then you can start calculating the distance away from your location. With 20 feet of water below, the 40 foot line on either side means the object you’re seeing is only 20 feet away. I may be getting this wrong, but that was my interpretation of how this feature works?
Hey I have the same unit however when I’m using side scan I get what’s on the right side displayed (not as clear) on the left. Cant rely on left all all. Only right side or reliable. I can go down docks on right side of boat and get clear images and see everything but it just shows it mirrored on the left not as clear. Have you heard of this before?
So the left side is an exact mirror of the right side, but it comes in fuzzy? I can't say I have seen that before. I would typically say it's probably the transducer, but I cant say that for sure. It could also be something with the display. I will have to check around and get back with you on that one.

@@mrmagicjax well I can say that the traditional sonar and downscan are completely different signals being broadcasted out and use different elements inside the transducer to create the sound waves, so even if side imaging is off, the rest should still work independently of it.
great video. just started using my 7TS on my kayak. am new to using these as well. Did get sonar and downscan with fish reveal working but have an issue with sidescan. while it seems to be working (shows the water column and looks like its working i didnt seem to see any structure. I paddled by a dock and expected to see something but didnt see anything. Still have to do some more testing though
Please explain your pyramid geometry picture. Timewise, a vertical picture line at the very top of the display is recieved just now, while a line printed half inch lower from the top was recieved some 10 seconds ago….so your pyramid top and bottom represents a time and boat position difference if crusing. if a fish is right under the boat, it shows up in the water column on both sides of the midline….the closer to the midline the two dots are, the closer to the boat/surface. If they show up close to where the bottom starts further away from the midline, they are close to the bottom. A fish further to the side, is difficult to position, the only help is if it is big enough to cast a shadow on the bottom, and then imagine a focused torch shining at it from the midline (at the water surface) creating the shagow, and judge its position from that. I do not understand your statement, that you miss a part of the bottom? When you see a known bottom structure right under the boat, that extends further to each side of the boat, a log or a sunken boat f.ex., it shows up on both sides with the expected geometry (depending of boat speed vs scan speed) in the graphics. Please explain….kind regards h.
Yes there is an area that is missing on the sidescan and that's the area directly beneath the black water column area. The sidescan imaging isn't a full 180 degree sweep. It's like two 70 degree beams shooting out on both sides. The area that you do not see on the sidescan that is directly below you is the area that shows up on your downscan. It doesn't just take a full image of the bottom and then split it in half for the left and right view. And the pyramid image is it help visualize that the black water colum area that you are seeing is at a downward angle. So a fish that shows up on it is going to be so many feet down and so many feet to the side. It won't show any fish that are directly beneath you. They will be out to the sides of you when they appear. But again the fish directly beneath you, will show up on the downscan imaging instead.

If you are talking about a split screen with, for example, sonar on one side and structure scan on the other, you press your pages button and then arrow down to Add Page. On the next screen just select which screens you want to view on the split and then select the layout that you want and then arrow down to save.
If so, you can try a hard reset on it. Other than that, if everything else works on it, including sonar and downscan, you might just have a bad transducer or display. Most likely the transducer. I'd recommend calling and demanding to speak to senior tech support. They will more than likely send u a new ducer.
Lol why do you think I make all of these videos??!! Tho it's not always customer service's fault. Granted their tier 1 support is sub par, but their senior techs are usually pretty knowledgeable. But Navico's logistics and inventory forecasting is absolutely terrible! They are usually out of stock on almost ALL products for the first 3 or 4 months of the year, every year! Plus they can't keep up with production as well. They are in serious need of a factory expansion!

Ya the Eagle is Brand new. I havnt been able to make any videos for it yet. The operating system is just like the Hook Reveal.

If you had the Hook2 before, you will see a pretty big jump in resolution with the Reveal. Its significantly better in my opinion.

The Hook Reveal Tripleshot is. I wouldn't recommend the Hook2 tho. It's had a decent amount of issues.

Yes you can set a way point . They will be just a little bit off but you should be able to find them I have the same unit
Where is your boat in comparison to the scrolling screen? Is it at the top of the line in the middle of the screen or at the bottom of the screen?

Help!!! I changed my transducer from a spit to a triple shot for side scan. And now my side scan is only reading everything but the graph

Are any of those bright spots in the black fish?
I see that some of them are filtered out, but some that look like fish.
Yes the white marks you see in the black water column area are likely the fish

If you go to "More Options" make sure the "Flip Left/Right" option isnt turned on. That will cause just this.
And if it isn't on, then try turning it on. It's possible the transducer is facing the wrong direction.

If you have an outboard or stern drive, you maybe getting interference from the leg. Try tilting the leg up a bit and see if that helps.

No this one does not. It only does structure scan.

If you are talking about a split screen with, for example, sonar on one side and structure scan on the other, you press your pages button and then arrow down to Add Page. On the next screen just select which screens you want to view on the split and then select the layout that you want and then arrow down to save.

Possibly. The green area is just the bottom of the lake or wherever your at.
When i click on sidescan screen goes black its brand new everything esle works but side scan any 💡
And you have the long tripleshot transducer connected to it?
If so, you can try a hard reset on it. Other than that, if everything else works on it, including sonar and downscan, you might just have a bad transducer or display. Most likely the transducer. I'd recommend calling and demanding to speak to senior tech support. They will more than likely send u a new ducer.

@@pepe65644 ts= Tripleshot ss= splitshot. The triple shot does side imaging and downscan and the Split shot just does the downscan. No side imaging

Lowrance has the worst costumer service of all the units on the market promises a lot but can't follow up on any of them
Lol why do you think I make all of these videos??!! Tho it's not always customer service's fault. Granted their tier 1 support is sub par, but their senior techs are usually pretty knowledgeable. But Navico's logistics and inventory forecasting is absolutely terrible! They are usually out of stock on almost ALL products for the first 3 or 4 months of the year, every year! Plus they can't keep up with production as well. They are in serious need of a factory expansion!
