  • At our new commercial property doing a first time cleanup. I usually trim African Iris plant using a sod cutter. But the wife was doing it with a sod cutter and she got it stuck and she said let me try the reciprocal saw.
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m glad she did. What a TIME SAVER!
As she said it’s all about working smarter not harder. Allow the machine to do the work and go back and forth and all we need to do is just push the button :-)

Good idea. Personally I just use a big pair of shears. Put a new blade on that thing and you should find it will work even better. 👍👍

Cinch the foliage mass with a bungee cord first, then use a saw.

By the wife's cocky tone of voice she isn't going to let him forget who came up with the great idea! Don't blame her it is a great idea! He owes her more than dinner! I have a lot of African Iris and they have gotten real thick and wide at the base. I tried to cut them with a sharp shovel and it is ALOT of work! Thank God I got on you tube and did a search and thank God for this guys wife for coming up with a great idea. Headed over to Ace Hardware to buy me a new reciprocal saw.

This is a great idea for reducing the circumference of the plant. But if the plant is too TALL, can I just level it (or shape it) across the top? Will that harm the plant?

Use a shovel and split it and plant elsewhere so half and half. Or if too big 4 will come out

Be careful to not damage the rhizome. Keep the saw level

Are you aware of how long does it takes to come back the same size and how expensive this iris are? When will they flower again? And you are throwing away the seeds. No no no 😩 $65 /plant. How can you masacrate them like that?
