I use Ben Affleck's line from Batman v Superman as my montra for Set Safety, ~"If there's even a One Percent chance, we have to take it as an ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY!"~ You would think that the 43 tragic deaths on movie sets since 1990 would motivate production companies to utilize the realistic looking pellet guns for sale from Umarex, Airsoft USA, and Shorty USA, not to mention that rubber training weapons can also be used; all the weapons of the Netflix film Extraction were non firing, hard rubber training guns and all the muzzle flashes, bullet strikes, and bloodspatter were added in post.
@@moviedorkproductions9465 whats not shocking is when you look at companies who are prnguns, who understand how dangerous guns are and so they make sure not to use real guns. Just look at john wick and terran tactical. John wick they use fake guns and add digital effects. It might not look as realistic having to add fake muzzle flash, but making sure theres no chance of anyone dying over a movie is a very good thing.
It's not commentary, it's a solemn reminder, especially for smaller, non union sets, I think he would have mentioned it anyway but he took a minute to be clear about the why. "Safety first" is hard because it usually takes the courage to call out your superior on their B.S. in an industry where you get called back only if you're easy going and dont break people's balls too much.
@@alex0589 Maybe "Commentary" was the wrong word. "Reference" might have been more appropriate, since they never directly mentioned the tragedy on Rust. But I think we're both on the same page here. Safety is paramount.
You mentioned that you’d shot your own custom assets for a feature, would you ever consider doing an episode teaching how that is done/ using it as a practical example? That’s something I’m finding difficult to find.
Sometimes I watch your videos and I think "I could try that sometime". Not with this video. I thought "I am not going to try this one ever. But I am going to enjoy the video". Lmao. Great as always
A few days before I was set to film a horror movie the director told us he was having a real gun on set (pointed at me, the DP). I am forever grateful that the shoot was cancelled the night before filming. He didn't even ask us if we were comfortable with a real weapon on set
This might be inconvenient, over-the-top, and a little weird, but taking the dummy head to a barber and getting the haircut to match would have added a whole lot of believability. Great video.
This is beautiful, thank you so much. The best combo of digital and practical, based on how much budget you have. If it's a supernatural villain, I'd make them stand there for a bit, stagger, do something funny but freaky, before falling, like in a lot of 80s and early 90s movies (Idle Hands, Friday the 13th), allowing enough time for the Blood Fountain to do it's magic, while the person in shock watches it with a frozen gaze and open mouth and then the other person, who screams and just pulls them away, after getting sprayed and comment about fucking up the Tshirt they gave them as a gift.
Hello film riot would you guys please teach how to comp in green screen environment and look really good well my lighting feels ok, but I feel like something is missing .
I’m about to get my first computer, I’ve been watching this channel for a while now getting come basic knowledge on filming. Does anyone have any tips for someone who’s about to start working with Adobe, blender and things like that?
Again Ryan, another outta the park video, however my question is..... can you do an instructional video on the old Evan Longoria caught baseball save reporters life trick, the idea that you can fake a batted ball then have it caught bare handed seems challenging and i have not seen it done since.... any ideas how its done? Thanks for your consideration, Pipefittermike creator of the web series Pipe Trek
Probably time constraint. I mean they used a website that completely automated it for them. They likely were running behind schedule. That said, I think this still achieves the goal of the tutorial given you could easily swap out the head model with something more realistic from Metahuman
Very important lesson that apparently even hollywood needs to learn, that when you don't need to be behind the camera and theres something dangerous happening, dont be behind the camera. No one wants to get alec balwinded.
Justin always goes 110%.
Respect.
that's the only way to go.
the chair breaking @ 0:41 got me literally lol. great video!
"as if it didn't like Dune" Hahahaha, love it.
Watching the final part of this video, i realized what working as good friends/family means to you and many should do the same!
"Always think of what is even the most unlikely event and act like it is 100% possible".
My mind went straight to "Alien Invasion" for some reason.
Joey is killing it. Give that guy a raise!
Getting some thinly veiled Rust commentary here. Safety first, and good for you for putting that right up front. Kudos.

@@ge2719 absolutely! No one's life is worth the "Perfect Shot" in a bit of make believe and illusion that we lovingly call cinema.

the whole intro just CRACKED ME UP!!! Brilliant as always.
That intro made my day 😂😂😂
I need Bloodtober videos all throughout the year
That was one of your funniest yet. Tripping over the plastic chair was gold!
0:38 OMG that was a terrific "pratfall". Happy accident. Safety first. 😂
3:00 mark
I see what you did there. 😉NICE👌🏾
This was my favorite
That scene is fantastic. Love the acting.
Me watching the Blender part: "Oh yeah, I'm totally following along." LOL.

If you skim their channel , they have copious practical fx vids
Lmfaooooooooo bra it’s a toss up of best intros between you , 3c films and , demolition ranch 😂😂 keep them coming lol
Your skits always go for too long, but after 7 or 8 years of watching, I find them enduring and adorable. I guess that's your style. Much love
If something is too long to be funny, just add more time, it gets funny again :D
Guy on a porch with no budget, safer than hollywood sets lol
rarely but that was the point of taking a second to talk about it.

I think he wanted to Alec Baldwin you
I would’ve probably called in sick that day bro

Lol just the intro was worth the like lol
Nice. Takes a lot of effort and patience
God I love these videos so much
Now we are back with ORIGINAL FILM RIOT!!!!!
He just needed to be respected 😂😂😂 Lmfaooooooooo
whyyyyyy did i get a film riot ad before this
Sleepy hollow…..heads will roll
please show us how to do samurai style, head slowly sliding off. nobody has talked about this style of beheading effect on youtube.
He just needed to be respected... 😂 😂
Your Face replacement effect looks a lot better than the job they did replacing the stunt woman's face with Ariana Richards' face in Jurassic Park
They did great, but comparing it to a 1993 film is not a real comparison.
So much of hard work।।।
that was an amazing shot!!!!
You should’ve use bellus3d or reality capture next time
Yes!
some visual effects from venom 2 in the next video would be cool
Troppo simpatici 💓
It’s that look Ryan’s gives like “ again oh well “
He should have muttered "I'm not cleaning that up"
@@ryanworkman3032 I know right lmao
IT JUST NEEDED TO BE RESPECTED
Heck yeah. This makes me want to learn Blender
love how ryan just didn't gave a thing when he saw josh's headXD
I love how long you dragged out the scene😂
Ya i agree on the Safety first part
Awesome tutorial can you make a tutorial on venom transformation
This would be the same deal for the Green Knight?
Very good,I loved it 😂😂⚔⚔
Thanks
me yelling "use an hdr!" at my screen
Oh snap...a little (timely) shade thrown at Hollywood about safety, I see. They totally deserve it.
This is beautiful, thank you so much.

This came out AHEAD of schedule
I usually guess how you did the effect before the tutorial is complete. But today i couldn't
Hey! Normalize Track! :)
Thanks for the vfx lesson 🙌
Quite complicated. Josh should have rolled around on the ground and winked at the end. Digitally erasing the body attached.
Which vid has the face being caved in please?
Please Create a video chalk warfare tutorial Thanks in advance
yay
🔥🔥🔥
Hell yeh

A real weapon on the filmset....
nice video
Where did you get the head from?
You ever done a head stomp? Like in rob zombies Halloween 2 or Halloween 2018

Would you ever do a video on how to film a dancing scene

💯💯
haaaa funny and educative
Does anybody know if after effects can run & do this type of edits in the new Mac M1 MAX / PRO chips
I don’t see joe work
Why not use metahuman or other modeling programs like Iclone or DAZ to make Josh's head? I think you could have gotten really close with Metahuman.
Probably time constraint. I mean they used a website that completely automated it for them. They likely were running behind schedule. That said, I think this still achieves the goal of the tutorial given you could easily swap out the head model with something more realistic from Metahuman
what about fcpx?
Stanley Kubrick style 100 takes hahaha
Blender is so cool but seems like it would take so long to do what they did...
Oh god lol
There isn't any blood on the blade. I guess you would need to edit adding blood in post.
Great concept, great video, but the tutorials are always way too fast. I'd love to see a more in-depth, slower tutorial on how all of this is done.
Bwahahahahahahaha These Justin moments are turning into little Tex Avery gags ( Long isn't it ) Just milking it all the way.
That's your favourite Burton film over Batman!? 🦇
I love you but you're crazy.
Hair on fake head destroy the effect
This sooo funny lol
Bro just walked by like nothing
We wouldnt want to pull an Alec Baldwin on set now lol
