Great seeing you guys dig into Blender - such powerful software. For an easier time modeling photoreal assets like the garage door, Ian Hubert has a great technique using the Import Images as Planes addon and creating simple geometry with those image textures. Very convincing results with proper light and shadow already built in

Fun! I like how you guys play.
I feel compelled to comment on a telltale flaw with regards to the look of the car hit.
A friend was struck by a car on a film set, for real, while, as a camera assistant, he was in the middle of using a car hood as a platform on which he could re-load a 35mm film camera.
    He survived.
He was standing in front of a parked car and many cars back an actor went off course an struck a car which struck the car in front which struck the car my friend was in front of. So the hit was similar to what you are portraying here. My friend was thrown many feet. What he remembers clearly wasthe grill hitting his groin and , due to momentum, his head being spun down instantly as his body pivoted about the pelvis/impact point and rotated his forehead down as his legs were taken well back much faster. His head bounced off the hood (which he dented!) and then his head had to follow his feet. Stand a doll up and then swing a stick at a crotch level impact point. The doll does not remain vertical. You spin it. The added momentum does take the whole thing in the direction of the swing but not as a tidy vertical. Your effect shows your rig remaining upright after the hit. People are basically like bags of water+ a bit of jello and some sticks inside. You can probably picture now how likely it would have been that someone hit like that would remain upright and move all in one "rigid" vertical orientation: not . BUT I love what you guys are up to and the spirit of these videos which still make me laugh.

I got hit by a car while running about 6 months ago. It was surreal. It was low speed but fast enough that I couldn't get out of the way. It was like being scooped up and then launched off a ramp. It was a car (not an SUV or truck) so it hit my legs first and put me on the hood of the car. The car was turning so I exited where the hood met the windshield. Time seemed to be really slow and then I'm laying in the middle of the intersection trying to figure out how hurt I am. In the end I had a big bruise on my leg, scrapes on my leg, arms and shoulder and some torn fingernails. My phone that was in my pocket took paint off the hood and put a good size dent in it. I think that is also what caused the bruise on my leg.
    TL;DR
It would be cool to see this idea from the perspective of the person being hit and all of the thoughts and emotions that happen in an instant but to the victim are experienced fully.

  • @JFikeVisuals

Great update to a great effect! I was wondering though, for tracking the shot, would it also work to film the pan slowly to have better tracking points and then speed it up in AE with lots of motion blur? Or would it look too fake in comparison? Also, for the garage door dents, to save time in a one-off single-cam shot I think I would export a frame to photoshop to add the dents, then parent the new frame to a track of the original garage door and mask it to just the dents (or whole door). For a scene with multiple angles or multiple scenes in that location, 3D is definitely the way to go.
