    The battle for 4th will be immense this year: can Haas and Alfa keep the relative pace they have now all year, can Alpine get quicker and use it’s more reliable and even driver pairing to outscore, can McLaren drag themselves back up. Going to battles right down the field
    Edit: Alpha Tauri are firmly in that fight too, just didn’t have a question ready about them, suppose it’s reliability at this point

    IIRC Mercedes said that for the first round of “testing” they noticed the porpoising but didn’t pay it any mind because they knew they had the “zero pods” upgrade coming. When they switched to the zero pods and the porpoising was still there and even worse they admitted they were completely caught off guard and ran out of time to react.

    I definitely think it’s too soon to thank the regulations.
    Bahrain always provides good racing especially down the main & second straight. We’ll need a couple more races to see if these regs have had the desired effect imo

    • @DeKilla63
      @DeKilla63 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I somewhat agree, but: you can clearly see that these new cars are definitely more comfortable following each other. You can clearly see it from the T4 (after the second straight) until T10, where there are continuous flowing corners, wich were difficult to follow through before the new regs. So I would be vaguely optimistic, that these new cars are more consistent in following especially through the corners. If those cars couldn’t follow as close, you wouldn’t have multiple fights for the lead over a couple of laps. That the cars also have to break off a bit is probably down to cooling and tire degradation, so it can’t be under a second for the entire race probably.

    • @benn87

    Leclerc seemed to be fine with tyres. He only stopped when Max did to cover him off. He could have easily gone another 5 laps on both sets of softs and he was going to the end on the mediums before the safety car. So it looks like the Ferrari is best on its tyres so far.

    Even though we are maybe not seeing as close racing as we’d hoped for, we cannot forget the fact that in the end, the best driver in the quickest and most reliable car is going to be up front. It seems like the discussion is mostly about the regulations not being as affective as predicted etc, but we should keep in mind that there will be spread in the field - because Formula 1 is a constructor motorsport, and the cars will perform differently.

    Like Matt, I remain cautious about the effectiveness of the new regs. While it does seem like they can follow closer without a huge loss of downforce and tyres overheating, the slipstream and DRS seemed less effective, so I'm not sure we will necessarily see more overtaking, but we hopefully won't see them trundling around 2-3 seconds apart from each other. K-Mag seemed to be very optimistic about it in his interviews after the race at least.
    Also, Bahrain has always been good for racing. If we get good action at tracks like Catalunya, Suzuka and Mexico City then I'm sold.

    • @jalanhart
      @jalanhart 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, but if you can stay closer through the corner you don’t need DRS to be as effective. Still a long way to go but so far it’s promising. Jeddah might be a better test because narrow street circuit.

Also I'm suprised F1 have never standardised car numbering, both size and position. And with the increased use of on board footage, why do they not all (some do) have driver name and or number on the halo ? @Pietro Di Canio George spent 3 years in a shitbox, you think he's just gonna sit there in a competitive car and watch?
      Checo on the other hand will do anything to keep his seat, understandable but yeah, he won't be in the title fight.

    For car identification, it should show the colour of the car/team as a bar, with a small strip at the end in either black or yellow to denote the colour of the camera on top. Then it'd be pretty easy to match things up without prior knowledge

    For Zhou GuanYu's name, his last name is Zhou, first name GuanYu
    In China, Korea, Japan, the last name comes first when you say the full name, so ZGY asked to keep that order. GuanYu Zhou would be to say it in the 'western' order

    One of the most underrated new rules is the lower temperature tire blankets. Now undercuts are more powerful because the car ahead is gonna be driving on ice for half a lap. Definitely gonna be big as the season goes on

    • @matt_dobson0614
      @matt_dobson0614 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean overcuts? If the tyres are cold out of the pits, that gives an advantage to those who stay out longer.

      @@matt_dobson0614 no because the person that pits second will be defending on cold tires from someone that has fresh warm tires.

    Giving Ricciardo a lower grade when he finished better than Lando?? Interesting

    • @Summert2912
      @Summert2912 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lando was ahead of Daniel when the safety car came out but if you listen to the team radio you’ll hear McLaren massively screwed Lando over. Lando had softs on from pitting 3 laps before on and his engineer asked if he wanted to pit for newer softs. Lando asked if he would lose a position if he pitted and McLaren said no so he pitted but came out behind Daniel.

  • @justice4g
    @justice4g 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    some drivers are better racers than qualifiers, eg. Dan with 3 poles, 8 wins.. The Race giving him 3.5 to Lando's 7 is ridiculous when he moved from 18 > 14 while Lando dropped 13 > 15
