COMMENT NE PAS ËTRE SEDUIT par ces merveilleux musiciens sur un air du non moins talentueux SARASATE Un moment merveilleux ... Mille mercis Béatrice de Paris
There is a version of this played by two guitarists who are not particularly famous, it is really good. But it has only been online for 5 months and it has 100000 more views than this video. I'm not saying the other video doesn't deserve that many views, it does, it is awesome. But this video is a piece of musical history that every musician should experience. If this video had 500000 views then I would still feel that it was under appreciated. Thanks for the upload.
FANTASTIC wonderful - so full of passion -I can dream my life away . Heavenly performance by one of the worlds greatist musicians.. thanks for this excellence recording .
I've seen most of the Menuhin videos - this is one of the best! Held my breath to see how he would do in the allegro, but he did well! Nice surprise - thanks!
Menuhin est un des plus grands violonistes de tous les temps : son émouvant, technique "époustouflante" Une stature de grand seigneur, de la grnade classe ...
I always regarded the Heifitz recording as the supreme example of this & Menuhin‘s masterful interpretation is of comparable virtuosity & perhaps even more moving. I am certainly aware that there are others that I have yet to hear who may approach their sublime playing such as Perlman for example.
Deep tone is the best one! I am not a violinist, myself:I play the piano, but I have accompanied violinists, and I enjoy the deep tones ,with lots of vibrato. Therefore,I like more the baroque and romantic styles than the classic one.
The old great masters used to employ catgut strings, this could explain the absolutely passionate sound of their vibrati. As we use to say:tastes are tastes. Regards from the far Argentina.
This is just incredible from start to finish. I like the end where Menuhin stands like a boss and you could just read from his lips "was this okay f*ckers or do you want me to do it again"
youre right menuhin was a magnificent human being as well as being a great maestro and would never havee entertained such a thuought. however, to be fair to the guy who made the comment i dont think he meant it in a bad way. i think he was just blow away by menuhin's greatness
What geniuses - not least because they remain in sync despite the changes in tempo, AND THEY MAKE IT LOOK EASY !! 1000's of hours of study, hard work & discipline (practice).
Well,it is always a matter of tastes. Here,in my country, one can see already violinists whom employ cat gut strings.I know this is somewhat difficult to obtain in a country like America, with so severe restrictions for the animal uses.
The use of vibrato was rather because they were used to using vibrato and did not realise that it was inappropriate in baroque music. Modern baroque experts use very little vibrato and certainly not wide vibrato.
It depends. some `performers, following the theories that prosuppose baroque as a sort of anticipation of romanticism, use to play baroque music with vibrato.
A strange comment. The baroque style employs only minimal vibrato. It was introduced in the "classical' period. Also baroque music tends to have fewer "deep" tones, and should more correctly be accompanied on harpsichord rather than piano.
What weird camera work - Yehudi's first two excellent flourishes in the first minute - wee the pianist's face and not Yehudi's violin! They seem to have fixed it after the first minute.
QUE LASTIMA QUE ESTA GRABACIÓN ESTÉ CASI UN SEMI TONO MAS ALTO QUE EL "LA" UNIVERSAL 4.40 ÉL TOCABA SIEMPRE EN 4.40 Y HASTA PREFERIA UN POCO MAS BAJO SI ERA POSIBLE. LO DEMAS GENIAL , ERA UN GRAN ARTISTA.

+Si Smith You said it so to the point- Yehudi made the violin weep and sing

C'est si beau que l'on reste sans voix .Quel superbe partage .
Lord Menuhin made pretty much every piece look a walk in the park
Oh Mr. Adolph Baller having the time of his life as always...
lol

at last they post this... to me one of the best interpretations along with the habanera... i am so happy!!!! thank you very much :)
Incredible video!!! One of Menuhins best. I love the wide vibrato: reminds me of Maria Callas.
What an amazing artist!
God,.this is beauty wherever you look at it.Hecaresses the instrument, the strings, like kissing them with his fingers!!!!!!
This is gypsy!!!

Beautiful Haunting playing !
Warm thanks from Lviv Region, Ukraine (then in Austro-Hungary) where Adolph Baller was born on 30 July, 1909, in Brody.

Excelentná hra Maestra Y.Menuhina.

Simplemente HERMOSO.
This is an AMAZING performance. It is the only one I have heard that rivals that by Gil Shaham.
Reverse that - Gil Shaham perhaps is the only one that rivals this recording lol

It is due to the "hiss hiss" of the 78 rpm recordings...I absolutely love that noise!

Великий!!!
И Музыка!
as said below..."beautiful haunting playing"
wonderful!!
Amazing,, bowing technique..
Потрясающее исполнение! А что, в те времена, когда снят этот фильм, так принято было среди музыкантов - играть с абсолютным отсутствием мимики?
Epic!!!
Amazingly Beautiful violin performance, gives you highs, without alcohol or drugs.why everyone try this first?
Good Brownie work..
Even with that clumsy right hand he manages a memorable performance!!!
How nice to compare this with that of Heifetz, to understand how Menuhin soul gives so wonderful tones while Heifetz cold play is hazy .
plese,of course.!!!
Perlman is a great violinist:Menuhin is a magnificent inspired ARTIST.!!!!!!
Great
he has the "yea i'm a fucking boss face" the whole time he is playing lol
good!
the best
I was talking about almost exclusively romantic music, that is the one I do prefer.
I am sorry if I expressed myself not so well,I am a foreigner,Sir.

god bless god bless god bless
Sir,with all my respect,I am talking about ART.An d jazz has no place here.

about the bow arm, bow makes unerring contact with the string!
A strange comment. The baroque style employs only minimal vibrato. It was introduced in the "classical' period. Also baroque music tends to have fewer "deep" tones, and should more correctly be accompanied on harpsichord rather than piano.
lol made my day.
Adolph "Baller". Lmao I can't help but laugh! A very nice piece though I like it.
What weird camera work - Yehudi's first two excellent flourishes in the first minute - wee the pianist's face and not Yehudi's violin! They seem to have fixed it after the first minute.
