"Cathedral" is my favorite CSN tune. It's so dynamic. One can feel him quietly creeping into the church, then having his epiphany and running out into the churchyard, to find himself on a gravestone marked with his own birthday. It's a compelling story (I think I read it was based on a dream?) and just grabs me.
Thanks for playing most of the entire album side. This is the way we boomers listened to our music. Hope that you continue this with other artists. (Steely Dan, Al Stewart, Doobie Brothers, Moody Blues)
Waiting for those killer harmonies 😂😂❤. My teen years. Yes, truth spoken by David. He spoke his mind. Ticked off lots of people. But had to respect him....
This was the great side of the album played often on FM stations in the NYC area for years to come after the release.Lee you need to listen to Nash’s solo album if you have not done it yet called Songs For Beginners. Songs like Chicago, Sleep Song, Military Madness, and Simple Man, are amazing!
I saw Graham Nash in concert in Scotland. Just him a pianist and guitarist ( the guy who played lead on the Heart tribute to Zep ) and they played a lot of his contributions to CSNY. Unbelievable !!!
The Hollies were much more of a pop band. Bus Stop and I Can't Let Go are great pop songs, but not written by the band. Good well-known songs that were Nash co-writes include King Midas In Reverse, Stop Stop Stop, On a Carousel, We're Through, Dear Eloise. A Nash album cut (or co-write) I like a lot is Stop Right There. Remember that GN left the band partly b/c they thought his material (Marrakesh Express, etc) was getting too out there, and they wouldn't record it.
The album cover makes me feel happy too ....and also when this album comes around on my car playlist. Fantastic diverse album that not only works seamlessly track to track, but showcases their many talents. Not sure how they did it.
Listening to an album ~ back in the day ~ was a total experience. You'd put it in, lay on your bed, sit on the floor or where ever and settle in to really listen to the whole album. When music videos came along and took over ~ they were cool but they were also distracting, too. They also stole your (my) imagination ~ there was no way for my imagination to run free ~ the visual was already determined for me. I don't know if you, L33, ever listen to music in a relaxed way like we did back in the day ~ give it a try sometime, you might fee a difference.
Have you done the album Crosby, Stills, and Nash? The one with them on the couch in front of the house with the song Wooden Ships? That album is fabulous!
Mmmmm, love CSN so much and these songs are gems. Cathedral grew on me after a while and now it’s a favorite. Favorite Crosby song is “Music is Love” from his solo album. There is more from Stills to explore, too.
Interesting fact about "Just a song before I go". Graham Nash wrote the song in about 20 minutes when a friend dared him to write a song before his ride to the airport arrived! Not bad!
It’s a lot darker. They’d lost friends, bickered, had drug problems, and realized they weren’t gonna be bigger than the Beatles. Hollies? “Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress”.
Thanks for this one Gale! Hey Lee. I've been kicked off being subscribed from your channel a couple times??? Anyone know why that happens? Anyway love you ❣️
Every song on this album is great! Cathedral is just a transcendent sonic experience!

Nash wrote Cathedral based on an LSD trip.

I have! At least some of it. I've done a couple version of wooden ships. Such An amazing track!

Lee...one more song on the end (Stills) and-a rocker--- "I Give You Give Blind'. Go back & check it out, bro. Great one! T
Great review 😊
Thank you Carolyn! I appreciate that. These guys bring it out of me. I gotta match their dedication and genius somehow 🤣🤣😳😁
I've been mesmerized and enchanted by Cathedral ever since I first heard it in the 90s. Such an amazing song on such a weak-ass CSN album, lol.
Cathedral is my favorite Nash song
