    Remember when Susan said "Ah hell" after she frustrated that her White Star can't go any faster than it did, and then the ship suddenly started shooting everything it got?
    Apparently her Minbari crew thought she tell them to open fire, in Minbari language.
    One of the funniest things moment in Babylon 5 for me.

    For me the most iconic thing for this ship was their sound. Anytime they flew past something with the alien scream of their engines. It was so alien, and fit perfectly with the craft. The big flyover on earth, one of the few scenes I remember from B5 so perfectly.

Her biggest advantage the steam turbine allowed her to maintain top speed for longer which in combination with the all big gun armament made her groundbreaking.

      That and it can't use everything at once, as the reactor isn't powerful enough to run everything at once. For example, it has to turn off its jammer, jump drive, and a few other systems to use all its weapons at once. In addition, the ISA variant uses molecular pulsars which are nasty weapons in of themselves (to give you an idea, molecular weapons tend to be of the 'screw your armor, your armor literally falls apart at the molecular level', the Shadow's main weapon (the molecular slicer) goes through pretty much anything not first-one grade like a hot knife through butter and operates on similar principles... although anything with an interceptor rating can target the pulsars while being unable to stop the slicer).

  • @casbot71

    The fact that it's so small and still has a jump drive allowed it to do a sneaky manoeuvre when it was first debuted, where it activated it's jump drive while in a jump gate, destroying a pursuing ship.

      @@darwinxavier3516 You know I never understood why folks have a problem with large highly advanced ships being agile. I mean they have gravity plating, inertial dampeners, fast sublight and ftl, all of these imply the ability to control mass and inertia to some precise degree. So why not let them be agile.

    • @magical_catgirl
      @magical_catgirl 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The White Star is larger then an Earth Force Olympus class corvette and half the size of a Hyperion class heavy cruiser. It is longer then a Centauri Vorchan.
      How is a White Star "not a capital ship"?

    • @milamberarial
      @milamberarial 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@magical_catgirl Mostly because in most scifi neither corvettes or cruisers are capital ships. In modern usage, a capital ship is often defined as a large warship that is only truly opposed by another capital ship. Or from a United States author: "These characteristics define a capital ship: if the capital ships are beaten, the navy is beaten. But if the rest of the navy is beaten, the capital ships can still operate. Another characteristic that defines capital ships is that their main opponent is each other." The main idea is that the capital ships form the core of a navy. In modern navies these are almost always aircraft carriers, since a carrier can destroy a battleship too easily when you factor in the extreme range advantage of strike aircraft. The only reason that Earth uses corvettes and heavy cruisers as their core ships is because they just don't use the term battleship much in the show.

    • @darwinxavier3516
      @darwinxavier3516 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@milamberarial That's the thing though. Scifi usage of the term capital ship is much more broad and usually just refers to anything big enough to have a large enough hangar/shuttlebay or just large enough to dwarf whatever the "small" ships are for it's setting. If we go by the "biggest or most powerful" ship that can still operate when the rest of the fleet is beaten, then the Omega class stopped being a capital ship when the Victory class was made. And from what I've heard from fans of fleet combat, carriers are often incapable(or are suppose to be cuz hurr durr hyper specialization is better) of doing anything on their own and need escort ships to protect them from other ships. The other thing is that there is a finite upper limit to how big a seafaring ship can get before being impossibly impractical. There's not really as much of a limit in space. The NX Enterprise would've been considered a capital ship for it's era, but would be relegated as a light frigate or corvette compared to even an Excelsior if we used such relativistic measure..

    I always felt the white stars fit into the role of corvette very nicely, they're fast, agile and pack a surprising amount of firepower. Something most traditional warships would want to reconsider engaging. The only ships to really handle them were the shadows and the advanced omega destroyers that used shadow tech earth force threw at them. (even then the white star fleet destroyed all of them)
    but really, the ISA needs more ships. Like a cruiser or frigate something that falls in between the white stars and the victory class destroyer.

      Upgrading the textures so objects have greater detail makes some of the B5 ships look phenomenal! If I had to pick on episode to be reworked, it’d be ‘Into the Fire’ with the big showdown battle between the Vorlons and Shadows.
