For anyone who thinks that, I'd suggest you listen to the original by The Knife... ...and then listen to the break thru cover by Jose Gonzalez. And then reconsider where the majority of the credit belongs.
@@FraterTaciturnus, credit certainly belongs to the original songwriter(s). I don't see anyone questioning that. The challenge I had posed was to listen to the original, and then listen to the cover which became famous, and then decide where the _majority_ of credit belongs. My own assessment is that Jose deserves significantly more than 50%. And if your point was that The Knife deserves greater than 0%, then I would not hesitate to agree with anyone who said that. This is a common story in music. Some artist comes after an original, and they do something quite different with it. And while that original piece may not have made much of a dent, the elements they add are what puts their version of the song over the top.
@@dahawk8574 I see what your saying. But I think it's worth nothing that Jose Gonzalez' version of Heartbeats did not become famous until Sony used it for a TV ad. Then it became really famous as he was touring the song on his world tour. It was The Knife who gave Sony permission to use it in that commercial in order to fund their upcoming album, Silent Shout. All that to say that Silent Shout does not get enough love. It's a wonderful album that still holds up today. Also, I think the best stripped-down version of Heartbeats is the live version from their audio/visual album that came out in 2006. But I love Jose's version, too :)
I really like this cover. The different-pitched snare drums, the guitar noodling taking the place of the synths, and your singer really just hits it. I dig it.
THIS IS INSANELY AMAZING! I heard this earlier while at dinner at The Pendry in West Hollywood and immediately shazam'd it. You guys are better than ANYTHING on the radio today! EPIC!!!!!
It's such an old song but still amazing (check out the original band "The Knife" from Sweden) sounds of my youth here in Iceland 2004 to ....2021 ;) I'm still youthful hah
i definitely felt it.. I have been listening to the knife a long time now this is the best cover i think i have seen... the backup vocals super underrated it makes it now that i have listened to it a few times
ROyal teeth nailed this performance! I never heard of them before, but it makes me want to check them out. I see some videos here in the related off to the right side of my screeb here. .. loved it.. .. .. . .. . ... .. . .. . .. . .. .. .. ... . .. ... . .. .. . .. . .. ... . . . .. . . .. .. . .. .. ... ... . . . .. .. .. .. . . . . .. ... .. .. . .. . .. . .. . .... ... . .. ... . .... .. .. ... .. .. plus im superbaked regardless its a good song either wat a great versiond
I saw them play at the Pecan St Festival in Austin back in like 2013 or 2014. This song and their show stuck with me and I listen to Heartbeats all of the time on Spotify. This video totally brought me back to their performance, I think they're all so great!!
This is, in my opinion, by FAR, the best cover of this song ever made. I do love the original, it has a wonderfully unique false retro mood. Every other cover I've heard of this song, save of course Jose Gonzalez, has been disappointing. So I guess I just wanted to say thanks for doing a good song some justice.
I saw this band years ago in Columbus and they put on such a great show. They hopped down off the stage and played in the audience. Probably one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. It was a great experience ❤️❤️
pb um why would they mention Jose? considering he has nothing to do with the original. why not go on and mention all the other quadrillion covers of this song?
Lol, this seriously may have been the last session before we transfered from primes to zooms with a very nice wide end, but I"ll pass this around, thanks!
Wikipedia The Knife: "The group and this specific album later received further attention when a cover of their song "Heartbeats", rearranged for acoustic guitar by José González, appeared in a Sony commercial."
probably the best cover I’ve heard of this song, but I love the original more.. the original has a vibe to it that doesn’t take itself too seriously that I love... plus the steel drums hehe
I agree, there's something innocent and kind of haunting though with the lyrics, due to a situation of mine personally with an unconventional relationship. This is still good though
This is a really great cover of this beautiful song! I noticed y'all are paying with CHAPPO soon. Say hi to our dear friends for us! And have a blast at Tipitina's!
More than a decade since I first watched this and it is still one of my favorite audio tree performances.
This GROUP need more recognition looks like to me the knife wrote this for them.
Everyone did amazing in this cover but, the percussion... the percussion is amazing on here, just really tops everything off i love it!
the knife deserves more recognition

I'd never heard of that stripped down version. I'll have to keep my ears peeled out for that one. Thanks for the pointer.

I've waited a while to see if anyone could cover this equal to The Knife live performance. What a great cover. Very very special.
No obviously noone can touch that

An absolutely most excellent and brilliant cover! Love!
The energy they have ion stage is so amazing. Ughh...I needed this.
What a great cover. They really really owned this song. I love The Knife but I can't quit listening to this.

Well considering they covered the Knifes version and not Jose's
+David Beckham are you stupid?
@@nuclearthreat545 yes he is. extremely stupid.
I LOVE THIS COVER!
Any and EVERYone who covers or promotes this band/song has my immediate appreciation
That moment when you've outnumbered Slipknot with the amount of percussionists in your band.
LMFAO, that's fuckin' great man lol
So true , it's an awesome cover. I love the vocals
It's great how much this original song allows interpretation. Acoustic and onto anything.
Lol, this seriously may have been the last session before we transfered from primes to zooms with a very nice wide end, but I"ll pass this around, thanks!
wow that was awesome! love the big beats!
The Knife - Live - Heartbeats , This is what it is going for not the original but the live. I think the live version is my favorite one.
Ana Aguilar agreed.. such a awsome version.. love trhe drum part.. very twin peaks inspired...

This is pretty sick. The Knife is potentially under-appreciated.
This is just spectacular. This is a unicorn people. Tell me the first .5 minutes didn't put you in a swirly haze of sweetness and relaxation. ;)
Great job ! It reminds me of Ravel´s Bolero: keep the rhythm constant until the end. And by the way: her teeth are royal.
Damn ther good 😊
