CLEVER CHOICE...40 years of music with DM....you will enjoy how they improved all over the years....please select "enjoy the silence" a live version and you will be part of their spirit
"Behind The Wheel" and "Never Let Me Down Again" are super hype especially playing in front of 80,000 fans and a legendary stadium such as The Rose Bowl
I recommend "Everything Counts" 101 video. I believe it was there when they realized just how popular they were. Part of the reason for this was the advent of dubbing cassettes; conventional sales numbers didn't show just how far reaching their music had become.
One of the things about Depeche Mode is that they are very good at taking obscure sounds and making really good melodies. Fair enough they will produce most likely loud sounds but their music is good and the messages that they are trying to convey are of peace, love and understanding. They really do deserve their place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
Depeche Mode started as electronic purist, "Never Let Me Down Again" is a legendary song by DM that they always play live it all started during there 101 tour. In the mid 90's DM change there sound and look by adding the guitar and drums live intead of using drum machines i recommend "I Feel You" it is a hype and loud tune to listen to
People are People is from 1984. My recommendations are Never let me down again (1987), World in my eyes (1990), Stripped (1986), I feel you (1993) and Strangelove (1987). There is more. Really. I did't even mention Personal Jesus (1989).
This great music was made about 40 years ago, during the Cold War between the USA and the Soviets. I attended to primary school then. Luckily we also listened to that, at the "other side of the Iron Curtain", in Hungary. Nice and unforgattable song! I liked Your video, good analysis!
Love this song!! It's still Relevant and stands the test of time (sadly). I hope one day we'll learn to love each other more than hate each other. We need to come together.
This album is full of brilliant songs all using sampled sounds as part of the beat and/or instrumentation. The other singles were Blasphemous Rumours, Master & Servant, and Somebody (a double-A side with Blasphemous Rumours). But the other songs, Lie To Me, If You Want, Something To Do, It Doesn’t Matter, and Stories Of Old are just as strong, and well worth a listen too. This song was their first hit in the US, and their highest charting hit in the UK at the time. Yes, it sounds like the 1980s but the sampled sounds really make it stand out from the rest.
It's so great to see you enjoying Depeche Mode. I think you should try listening to Never Let Me Down Again, especially their live versions just to see the power they have over their audience. It's electrifying. So many songs to dig into. Also Home, the album version which is longer and has a spectacular outro. :-)
Just to give a little Depeche Mode background, Martin Gore is the main songwriter & lyricist for DM, Also, Gore is half black & half white. His father is African-American & his mother is English. DM's singer, Dave Gahan, is British & Malaysian. Both Gore & Gahan's biological father's were not around while growing up, & it is said that both of these band members found out about their fathers as adults. It'd be interesting to know if "People Are People" was written by Gore before or after he & Gahan found out about their fathers &/or ethnicities.
I remember the 1st I listened to Depeche mode, I about 5 or 6 years old (because of my [older]siblings)but I didn't follow until 2009 when I the title: Wrong (Sounds of the Universe)on the radio also 1 of the songs I remember was Everything counts (Construction Time Again)and I to mess up the lyrics: Everything counts in large amount or Everything counts in a larger Mouse? Anyway that's all I can think of, also I remember other songs (before their time)like after wars and indigenous people or even politicians... well that's all for now thank you.
Next group that have good music and lyrics are U2. And some more groups of that era. This was music with meaning. Nowadays are doing that The 1975 in some songs.
This is from 1984, and we STILL asks this very question!!!! Why have we not moved on from that??? It is heartbreaking 😢
I always liked this song

Depeche Mode is one of the best band through the 80s and beyond. Their music is deep with meaning and the sound is totally unique to them.
1984! Industrial noises made into music with Real life lyrics! DM has been my favorite band since I saw this video on Mtv!

The production on that track is insane. All DM tracks have great production but the soundscape of that track is amazing.
Love their music - outstanding band ! 🌹

It's actually a shame that this song is still relevant these days. But the message is a good one and hope that more people hear it.
