I never get tired of this song. They use their voices in so many ways it becomes interesting even though there is only a guitar to accompany the singing. They are living instruments!

They both get a credit for writing this magical piece of work. In an interview Chinchilla said it took many many tries to get it correct, but worth every second,one of my all time favourite tracks....closely followed by Chalk Outline and then FINGERS LIVE FOR HUNGER TV by Chinchilla is about as any vocal experience ever!
Ren wrote this after his friend, Joe Hughes, committed suicide at the age of 19 (by jumping off the Menai bridge) at around 03h00 on 28 December, 2010. His body was never recovered.💔

Ren had a recent Q&A on his patreon and I asked how he divides work in his collabs and he specifically said that he and Daisy (Chinchilla) always cowrite - including contributing ideas to each others lines. :)

i think ren wrote this from the point of view of joe -what was in his mind when he couldn't get help, and then he jumped. if you listen from that point of view the lyrics make complete sense.
eff the knife, you need a chainsaw to cut the tension in this song. Watch chinchilla in that first chorus, you can see she's feeling whats to come, and is trying to hold it back, but it's almost overwhelming and getting the better of her, so much so that she trembles and quivers in her constraint. it's fascinating to see that in a performance.

Why pause seconds from the end, in the middle of Ren's dedication to his friend? I never understand why people pause near the end of a song but to do so here was doubly egregious.
