Story literally revolves around Light and law is his antagonist. In these types of anime there isn't only 1 main character but the main characters vary from protagonist,antagonist,deuteragonists and a love intrest. In death note -Light is the protagonist(actual main character) -Law and near are his antagonist(light's rival) -misa is the love intrest -mello and task force are the deuteragonists. Still this all doesn't change the fact that light won,he was right in my opinion,someone had to do it otherwise people like tanaka used death note for their own satisfaction but light risked his life for the whole world. After finding the death note, he started killing criminals by the name of justice, he ended getting killed by ryuk. If light never found the death note, L wouldn't have died and Light would have a peaceful life. But finding the death note is what makes the anime/Manga interesting. I love that Light deserved what he got. But in terms of foresight and planning, Light is unmatched in whole of fiction. He literally crossed all limits of planning when he himself planned to lose all memory of the Death Note to prove his innocence. That is something impossible to even imagine.

Light didnt have "2 shinigami and misa" on his side. Shinigami 1 stated he will not interfere or help light with anything and shinigami 2 wants light dead. Misa is a dumb bimobo who is more of a hinderance to light than actual help. Light is just one dude with no help or funds, having to single handedly figure out the identity of the worlds smartest man with the worlds most protected identity, all while having to navigate the dumbest bimbo in the universe who jeapordises anything to get light to love her and if he tries to get rid of her the shinigami will kill him. Where as L (allthough absulutely brilliant and genious too) has the most secret identity in the universe, infinite funds, the fbi under him, the poliece under him and concidering what he did to misa when he kidnapped her and tortured her for months he has the law on his side, allowing him to do some really unmoral and unethical shit with absolutely no reprecussions. L was smart because he could see the patterns which made sense for light to be kira, but he could never prove it. Light could make a plan so intricate that he could wipe his own memories and predict how he himself would act if his memories were wiped to such precicion that he managed to not only beat the smartes man alove but also clear himself at the same time by making himself work against himself to kill L. This isnt even a discussion about whonis the smartest no matter how much any1 loves L...
