@@uabir8338 All of the Breville models have PID controllers. This is a requirement when using thermoblocks. The difference is that only the Barista Express and above have adjustable temperatures. Is that what you're referring to? Because that was mentioned in the video.
This has been the most informative, honest and relevant guide to brevilles machines that I have watched. Thanks for always producing such quality content.
In my case the Barista Pro was the one that fulfilled my needs, after a very long investigation, testing different machines and waiting for the best price... the result is a big smile every time I experiment and drink my coffee. This channel was crucial during my research and I'm 100% satisfied with my choice.
I owned a Bambino Plus, and also a separate Smart Grinder Pro. You will be surprise to see that bambino has many other features like those higher end machines such as programming pre-infusion, manually program the shot, auto or manual frothing. The draw back of this machine is, you can't control the temperature. Despite of the PID controlled, you will still need to wait for awhile between cups (13 seconds as mentioned). The separate grinder will enable us to provide a wider range of grind size than most built in units. If you are running with time in the early morning, Bambino is a good choice.
I would think if you don't have 13 extra seconds in life, you need to change your life style-LOL I think I prefer separate grinders bc what if the grinder on the machine fails? You have to toss out the whole machine??
The bambino plus definitely appeals to me. I’m a cappuccino drinker and sometimes time is limited in the morning. Automaton of some part of the brewing process is much appreciated without breaking the bank.
Your videos are just jam-packed with useful, bottom-line information. As a long-time Breville user myself, what I found most compelling is what you chose to leave out, and why. I had been struggling to articulate why I thought the "touch" series of machines were an overly-fussy attempt to simplify a functional process. You nailed it: poor value. Many thanks for your terrific videos. The content, production, and editing are superb!
I've got the lowest end model in this lineup: the Duo Temp Pro. In my personal experience the machine is well built. I picked it up in rough condition at a recycle center; with descaling and cleaning it was working like new. I was expecting to have to replace some parts, since it was labeled as "broken" and didn't appear to be well maintained even before the recycle center banged it around, but it was all good with just a little elbow grease. I like the basic nature of this machine, but can see how it's not for everyone. You have to do homework to get a good shot out of it. You do get digital temperature regulation (PID) which is very helpful, but it's on you to provide an adequate grinder dialed in to the proper setting, proper tamping pressure, proper shot time, etc. Aside from controlling the temperature of the water you're 100% in charge. In effect, it feels like I'm conducting a science experiment when I use it more than I'm making a drink sometimes. I'm kind of into that, but can see why people wouldn't want to deal with it.
Thank you for breaking this down; which Breville machine? Very helpful... Sorry; I cannot help notice that you do not have a head? Absolutely amazing how intelligent and articulate you are since you do not have a head? Baffling!
I highly recommend going with the Breville Barista Express. Right now you can get one on sale at Bed Bath and Beyond for $599.00 (regularly priced $699). If you use the weekly 20% coupon that BBB provides you, it lowers the price to approximately $479.00 pre-tax. At a price like that, it's extremely hard to beat. I picked one up about two weeks ago and have been using it 2-4 times every day since. Hope this helps your viewers. Thanks for the great content!
Absolutely Love Lifestyle Lab for edifying me on my soon to be espresso machine purchase. Always clear, easy to understand, precise and to the point. Plus, I love that your videos are in 4K. Awesome reviews and I thank you greatly!!
Thank you for this really informative, simple to understand review! After already doing a lot of research and not coming to any conclusions on the differences between the machines, this video has really helped me work out which one is for me! It is worth noting that I never leave comments on videos, however this deserves me taking the time to do so!
Love Breville machines. First time I've heard anyone call the Barista Express grinder "good." Reddit seems to hate it. The 1st generation (pre 2017) tended to wear out over time but the 2nd generation introduced an adjustable top burr that you could tighten if your grinder stopped producing pressure even on the finest setting. It's interchangeable with the 1st gen too.
excellent information and comparison! I have for years been waiting to buy a Dual Boiler. I just ordered the Barista Pro as I figured out I am the only one drinking coffee in my house.
same here. I'm real close to ordering a barista pro. but thanks to this review, i'm going to save a lot without losing a lot of features. i already own a Wilfa Uniform grinder so this made me realize i dont need another one. Wilfa uniform grinder is great.
Love this video and it helped me figure out what machine was right for us but I do think you're underselling the Barista Touch, which is what we ended up going with. It has all the best features from both the Bambino Plus and Barista Pro plus one-touch Americanos which is what my wife prefers. It is also worth something that I can figure out all the grind and brew times for my coffee and allow non-trained family members and guests to get a good quality drink.
I've been using the duo temp and smart grinder for a few years now and it's brilliant using the non pressurised baskets. I love the duo boiler maybe in the future.
I'm in the same boat. Sometimes I get the urge to upgrade, but I gotta be honest that the duo temp has been a capable little machine with no real problems in the 5+ years I've had it.
Well made video, as always! I LOVE how you are always exactly to the point. Your videos are content-loaded with the shortest time possible, which I love! Btw, I disagree that the Touch variance of the Barista Model isn’t worth it. In the Oracle, it definitely isn’t worth it because the regular Oracle already has automatic steaming. But the Barista Touch automatic steaming is a true life-changing feature for an addition of only $200 to the Pro Model. I wouldn’t recommend anyone buying it, unless they are milk drink lovers like me. Most my drinks are milk based & I even use it to make hot milk tea or hot milk alone, in addition to lattes, of course. So, for people like me, it’s worth paying extra $200 for the convenience of automatic milk steaming, especially given the fact that no model of the Breville Baristas offers automatic steaming.
I would add that the programmable features in the barista touch to save your preferred settings as well as adjusting the temp levels of the espresso shots is handy too. Not to meantion the on screen prompts to help you stay on top of cleaning is helpful too. So happy with my purchase. And we only paid $700 for it. Totally worth every penny.
I initially got my duo temp because of the design... Better than the box design of ALL other machines... But I wish o would've invested into the infuser so that I have the gauge.. but I love my machine either way!
The Barista Touch offers the automatic streaming option as an additional upgrade from the barista pro. People should consider the touch not for the display but for the very convenient way of getting perfect milk every time with no work at all.
Totally agree. I own the Oracle and love that feature. When I bought a second home, I wasn't ready to drop the money for a second Oracle, but instead bought the Barista Pro because I wanted the steaming feature. Very happy with that decision. I love both machines!
Yes, but in the case if the Barista Touch, you also loose the added grind resolution found on the Pro. Meaning that you are actually paying more, and sacrificing dialing in accuracy, just for automatic steaming. And the panarello is not the same as on the Oracle. The temperature sensor is located in the drip tray, like on the Bambino Plus
@@LifestyleLab_ Fair points. I find the Barista Touch provides more convenience. I don't tend to change my coffee bean choice very often, so I rarely change the grind setting. While I would prefer the sensor in the wand, like the Oracle has, having to place the pitcher on the sensor is a minor issue to me. Since I purchased the Oracle first, the goal of my second purchase was to get many of features of the Oracle at a lower price and the Barista Touch does that for me. I was also lucky in that I purchased the Touch at this time of the year, and Black Friday sales reduced its cost to slightly more than $50 over cost of the Pro I found when I used your link provided above. Love your videos and this is just my opinion. Even with the details from your well done breakdown of the Breville line, I would still purchase the Barista Touch as my second machine and the Oracle if I only owned one.
@@LewisBurgess Fair points, and you're absolutely right! Different people are looking for different things. I'm still using the Oracle every morning when I'm in a rush because it's sooo convenient! Then I use something more "analog" in the afternoon when I have some more time to play around
I love my Barista Touch too, Sam. Very happy I went with this one. I love that I get perfectly steamed milk and I'm cleaning up as the milk is steaming which saves time. Like the different personalised programs too. My husband likes hotter milk, a friend likes a flatter flat white. I use the same coffee so I only make minor adjustments to the grind as the coffee ages. It has ruined me for cafes though....better coffee at home.
Thank You for the detailed video even though it is 3 years old. For longevity wise and reliability which one would you recommend? Would you be making an updated video on your buying guide? Any new machines that you recommend that are out right now compared to 3 years ago?
awesome buying guide, sir Lifestyle Lab! I'm from the Philippines and I think the Gemilai espresso machine lineup would really be worth your look. I think it is Chinese company that offers an espresso machine lineup at an insane price range.
Very informative and superbly done, wonderful comparison on the Breville Espresso Machines, helps a lot knowing the deference’s between the different models. Very impressive all of the Breville comparison. Thank you
We're talking about boiler heat up time, not group heat heat up time. Running blank shots after startup can get your basket, group, and portafilter up to temperature very quickly. Some of these machine like the Pro don't even heat the portafilter naturally in the group. Blank shots are required.
I see Breville has updated the water reservoirs on the new machines. My previous one (which is starting to fail) had it at the front which made it easier to keep in its little nook. Although you had to stop the machine, remove the coffee and refill if you ran out half way through. The new back reservoir means I will have to rearrange things.
I had the lowest model. It was horrible. It only had the unpressurized basket-at the time I didn’t know about pressurized baskets-and the pressure was so high the shots were horribly underextracted. I bought a good burr grinder and ground the coffee on the finest setting. Still blew out a double shot in 7 seconds. My wife just bought it one day at BB&B. Never once did I get a decent shot. I’ll never buy another Breville
I just bought one of these same Duo Temp Pro machines secondhand at the thrift store and had a similar experience at first. I started by using an electric burr grinder, which I assumed to be a good model (reviews claimed it was capable of espresso), and had similar issues to what you describe: shots were taking less than 20 seconds at the finest grind setting, including the pre-infusion phase. It was a watery mess. I tried thoroughly cleaning the grinder and messing around with any adjustment I could find but it made no difference. It was very frustrating. Just to rule it out, I pulled out my el-cheapo ceramic burr hand grinder, dialed that in to a fine grind setting, and gave that a shot. Wouldn't you know it, suddenly the DTP worked! After a few attempts I had the machine doling out 25-35 second shots with 16.5g of coffee for a 1:2 extraction, bang on to what it should be. Sorry you had a bad experience, but it's possible that the grinder was the culprit. Even if it claims to be espresso friendly in reviews, you never know if those reviews are accurate. Maybe they had a cheaper machine not capable of getting to 9 bars, or were using a pressurized filter, or thought that a 15 second espresso shot was normal, or the tolerance gods just happened to work in their favor on their specific grinder despite it not actually being designed for espresso. Who knows? Unless the manufacturer states that the grinder is designed for espresso it's a gamble. Even some very good grinders are simply not calibrated for espresso, so it's not necessarily a quality or price issue either. Anyway, that's my two cents. Hope you found better luck with a different machine!
I had the Breville Barista, after eight months it broke down. The repairer told me that loose wires caused the problem. After coming home with the „repaired“ machine we tried this Breville Barista however nothing worked. I returned this machine to the store and got my money back. By the way I did write to Breville and ask if it would be better to upgrade to a more expensive machine. I didn’t hear from Breville, I went to an outer Sydney suburb to buy an Italian made machine. What a difference, this machine is so much better.

Nice video. I don’t see many mentions on YT about the Barista Touch. It’s a very worthwhile upgrade from the Pro. For me it was the right balance of automation and customization ability.
Wow thank you for making your videos this has help me a lot in getting my second coffee machine (I have gone from a seaco fully automatic a breville oracle) Thank you again
Thanks for your great channel! Just a heads up, Breville is coming out with an even more entry level Bambino (BES450) for $300 American Dollars...should give you some fuel for a few more videos! I pre-ordered one and can't wait to get going with it
very well done evaluation - sending to friends wanting to jump in ! I think worth mentioning... am Oracle user for many years, love it except the very high retention of the grinder, the tamper-fan in particular
Great video comparison presented by Sleepy Hollow!! (LOL) please don´t take that personal!! video producer and camera man should consider including your head and face. It is a basic principle when producing pictures and videos. Anyway, I appreciate your time and effort making this video. I am in the process to purchase one of these Breville espresso machines and it really was helpful for me to understand the differences. I am very inclined to purchase the barista express but now I am considering also the infuser. My concern with the barista is the durability of the grinder. I have read some comments that it might not be durable. Thank you again.!!
Videos for the past year have been full-bodied! Haha Reasoning is in our 10k subscriber video. Grinder durability isn't something you should worry about, I've never had issue on any of our machines
How would you compare the Barista express against the Delonghi Magnifica XS? They are fully auto and more manual, but seems both make a good coffee. Any comments from your experience and expertise will be highly appreciated!
The Delonghi machines don't stack up favorably against the Breville offerings at similar price points. Their grinders don't have enough steps to properly dial in single wall baskets (if they're even offered with the machine). Which is unfortunate, because the looks and steaming performance are decent
I’ll use your referral link for my purchase if you answer my question. I want to make lattes only. I’m thinking the bambino with a separate grinder may be the best solution, but I’m unsure how not being able to control shot temp would affect my results. If I didn’t do the bambino I’m thinking I’ll do the barista pro since it’s only $100 more than the express. Given all I want to make is lattes I think the barista models aren’t the best, but if shot temp is important I’ll pay it. What do you think?
If you’re making primarily lattes, I’d say go with the Bambino. Shot temp is important when you’re trying to perfectly dial in a certain coffee, especially lighter roasts. If you’re diluting it into a milk drink, the Bambino will serve you perfectly fine, and you get the added benefit of automatic steaming :) great bang for your buck
I am looking for the best small home espresso machine with no grinder... coffee shop near me already providing the best fresh grinded blends I need... and I am mostly enjoying plain espresso, double shot....Soooo... which model / machine brand do you recommend to me? Tnx !! :)
If you’re using pre-ground coffee keep in mind that you’ll be limited to using pressurized baskets. If this is the route you’re going, you can safely go with something like the Bambino.
As with any appliance, I am wondering if the grinder component is replaceable if it fails or breaks down. Will I be having to go out and buy a separate grinder if this happens one day, I wonder.
Is the buttstock of the Sage Barista PRO 878, Sage Barista 875 and Sage Duo-Temp Pro BES810 the same, identically supplied with these machines? I know the size is 54mm. but do they differ in appearance, workmanship or are they the same, identically made?
The Infuser seems to be sold out everywhere here in Canada. Is this model being discontinued? I like that model because I already have a good quality grinder. Then the Bambino Plus seems to have less control over the water temp...
Thanks, I have been enjoying these reviews. I do not see much comparisons of the Ascaso Dream [+ PID] which is comparable in price to the Barista Express [+Pro]; OR the Fracino Piccino which is comparable price to the Dual Boiler + Oracle. What do yo think??
My Bambino takes 10 seconds to get to steaming temperature ONLY from start up. If you pull a shot and then switch to steam, it takes no more than 6 seconds..
Very helpful video. Thank you for that. I want to get the Breville Express one. But love to do my coffee in a special way that the coffee extraction keeps going until I stop it. Can I do that in the Express one? Looked everywhere and couldn’t find the answer.

We're talking about boiler heat up time, not group heat heat up time. Running blank shots after startup can get your basket, group, and portafilter up to temperature very quickly. Some of these machine like the Pro don't even heat the portafilter naturally in the group. Blank shots are required.
I’ve been looking for this exact video comparison- thank you.
Yes, back reservoirs can be a pain with low cabinets (like mine). The front filling port on the Dual Boiler and Oracle is a blessing!
Touchscreens are good for people who hate dials and prefer cleaner and easier to follow user interfaces without having to read manuals.
Big mistake to omit the Touch. Love mine big time over the express. Not having to worry about milk frothing, huge bonus.
Literally just released a review on the Touch
Saw a few of your vids, found this video, now I'm subscribed
Please add "touch time" test to all of these!
Thank you for the informative video. Would you recommend any of these for a small coffee shop?
No, these are not designed for commercial use.
I just want to say: THANK YOU. :)
New here and new for coffee and il get the breville or sage barista express thanks
You'll be very happy with it!
Be sure to check out our dialing in video once it arrives
I had the Breville Barista, after eight months it broke down. The repairer told me that loose wires caused the problem. After coming home with the „repaired“ machine we tried this Breville Barista however nothing worked. I returned this machine to the store and got my money back. By the way I did write to Breville and ask if it would be better to upgrade to a more expensive machine. I didn’t hear from Breville, I went to an outer Sydney suburb to buy an Italian made machine. What a difference, this machine is so much better.
Possible to get your new Italian one info, and where? Thx
@@johnlee3353 the Name of my Italien coffee machine is Quickmill Rubino 1 grp Coffee Machine purchased from Auspresso, 19 Daking St North Parramatta, www.auspresso.com.au This machine works perfectly and is easy to operate. Best regards Hardy A.
Nice video. I don’t see many mentions on YT about the Barista Touch. It’s a very worthwhile upgrade from the Pro. For me it was the right balance of automation and customization ability.
Wow thank you for making your videos this has help me a lot in getting my second coffee machine (I have gone from a seaco fully automatic a breville oracle)
Thank you again
Thanks for watching!
Great video... Dual Boiler for rhe next upgrade. 👌
👌
from Breville express
Hopefully to find a Niche grinder that sells here...
same here message Niche and availabilty of the product would take months.... looking also eureka . hopefully local distributors can provide me.
@@Max-wl5ll but I'm into single dosing... so I'm really looking forward to have the niche.
Thanks for your great channel! Just a heads up, Breville is coming out with an even more entry level Bambino (BES450) for $300 American Dollars...should give you some fuel for a few more videos! I pre-ordered one and can't wait to get going with it
Barista express is on sale rn! Dont have the room sadly
I guess I'll go for The Oracle.
Enjoy!
Making a coffee on our Oracle as im writing this
Thank you so much for this video. I’m doing some research to open up an on the go coffee shop. Would love help/feedback/suggestions. Thank you! ❤️
None of these machines will be appropriate for an on the go coffee shop unfortunately. They are not built for commercial use cycles.
Can I use Breville dual boiler for small cafe 130-150 cups daily ?tq
No, these are not designed or certified for commercial duty cycles.
Coming in a little late... I note the Oracle is now discontinued here in UK. Anyone have any info why etc?
Lovely - exactly what I was looking for!
If your a iced latte drinker which would u go for? Bambino plus a grinder? Or express?
If you're primarily a latte drinker I'd go with the Bambino and separate grinder
GREAT info-- so hard to decide between machines- this video helps a lot
Glad it was helpful!
Amazing! Short, succinct and to the point!
That's what we aim for here!
Thanks for tuning in
What about the start up time för The Oracle!?
Same as the dual boiler, same heating system and boilers :)
Thank You, I’m loving your video in the first few seconds! Awesome content!
The reviews are so great, informative as hell!!
very well done evaluation - sending to friends wanting to jump in !
I think worth mentioning... am Oracle user for many years, love it except the very high retention of the grinder, the tamper-fan in particular
hi, good video which do you recommend only for espresso, I would like to knows the options, thank you..but I stretch just a little in my budget..
In this price range, Breville, Gaggia, and Rancilio are the most popular options
Would you recommend buying the Breville Café Roma?
No, just get the base Bambino model instead. Much better extractions and steaming
@@LifestyleLab_ Great! Thank you for your comment about grinder.
We bought all of them! Thank you!!! Do you sell to the European market?
We are not retailers ourselves, but the links in the description will lead to the appropriate marketplace for your region :)
Excellent Video!
Great video, really useful overview of all the range
This was great, learned a lot about breville, Thank you so much!
Why the Breville barista max is not included in this Video? I have one at home.
Yes, I imagine it's being phased out along with the Duo Temp and Barista Express (old thermocoil machines)
wow! great review! You just helped me decide which model to get and save a lot of hard earned $$$.
Super informative! Buying my first espresso machine and this helped a lot! Thank you!!!!
Amazing video. Extremely useful.thank you
Like this video great comparison! As a beginner I’m wondering Barista Pro or Bambino Plus combine with Smart Grinder. How’s your suggestion? Thanks.
I would go for the Barista Pro! It's a great all-in-one experience
What would be the best option for a holiday rental...ease of use and easy to clean?
Probably the Bambino, or Barista Pro
Is the Ponte Vecchio Lusso any good?
My Bambino takes 10 seconds to get to steaming temperature ONLY from start up. If you pull a shot and then switch to steam, it takes no more than 6 seconds..
Your videos are very helpful. Brilliant Thanks!! My only question is that I cannot get my espresso to pour slowly as others. Is this an issue?
Have a watch through this whole video, it will answer all your questions! th-cam.com/video/D-bV4j-Z-sU/w-d-xo.html
Very helpful video. Thank you for that.
I want to get the Breville Express one. But love to do my coffee in a special way that the coffee extraction keeps going until I stop it. Can I do that in the Express one?
Looked everywhere and couldn’t find the answer.
Yes, all of these machines can be run manually as well :)
How about the Breville barista max? how is it compared to these?
is the barista pro good enough for pop-up cafe business?
Coffee quality: Yes
Duty cycle: No
These are not commercial machines, they are not built to with the speed or durability required to serve back to back to back orders for multiple hours
@@LifestyleLab_ is the dual boiler any different?
It could keep up speed-wise, but it still isn't intended to be used in a commercial setting
@@LifestyleLab_ thank you.
your videos are enjoyable to watch. keep it up!
🤓👍🏻 Wow thanks the indepth research and info on the machines
What a great video. Well done brother.
