For example, the Nazis are described as having "privatized" industries by transferring ownership to party officials, and thus not being socialist. However, in a one party state, the party is the government, and thus it was totalitarian control by the party. Especially considering the new "owners" of these corporations did not have genuine control of them, and were still entirely subject to the dictates of the party. Furthermore, corporations are not "private". They are public entities subject to public ownership, formed by a legal partnership between their organization and the government. They cannot exist without special government protections, which they cede control over their organization in exchange for. For something to be truly "private", it must be owned and controlled at the individual/family level.
Agreed, when it comes down to it Facebook is something no one wants to give an official title to because if they do it will be bound by certain laws, and our law system is so slow and shitty and money based even if someone DOES want to force facebook to follow the law, being in the right and proving them wrong is not enough. I have FB friends from both sides of the coin, and I can only say with my small cross-section of evidence that my friends on the left are much more bombastic/hyperbole-driven when it comes to criticizing Trump or conservatives in general. During the Kavanaugh SC confirmation hearings, many would go on and on about how guilty he must be bc who would bring these kinds of accusations forward if they weren’t true. When I would ask them what if it was your son being accused - would you abandon him solely on one person’s decade’s old account and believe the accusation 100% without vetting it for specific details/accuracy/truth? Most would reply that their son would never do something like that so they would never be in such a position in the first place. Me: so your answer is obviously “no” since your defense would be: my son would never do such a thing. Why can’t you see the same logic here? They never had an answer and their friends would say I didn’t understand all the complexities of the situation. They simply aren’t able to apply the same rules for everyone. It’s frustrating bc I consider these friends to be otherwise brilliant and reasonable people. Politics can really distort, and that’s what’s happening with FB and other online platforms. Ethan Groß my solution is to make social media platforms public utilities. That way, anything that’s legal must be allowed on those platforms. If the electricity company that supplies your home with power doesn’t like your views on climate change, they can’t shut off your power. If the water company doesn’t like like your views on black lives matter or the police, they can’t shut off your water. That’s how I believe social media companies should be handled.
FB has litigation protection as a public forum, but they practice censorship like a publisher. That’s the whole issue. They’re trying to have it both ways.

People on their own simply can't sort out the truth because we don't have time nor the ability to be informed on everything. It doesn't help that people tend to refuse to admit they are wrong, still voice their opinion on subjects they don't care about and so on. I guarantee close no one here has ever actually gone through a full climate science textbook, nor regularly consults scientific papers on the subject, yet absolutely everyone thinks their opinion is somehow relevant. I laugh at people who really think there is someone "fact checking" everything on Facebook! They use computers with keyword logarithms built into the system to determine what is "false" (conservative) and what is "truth" (liberal/leftist).
They are keyword "algorithms". A logarithm is a simple mathematical conversion of numbers. "Algorithm" is a complex formula of logic and decisions in this context: A computer program. While true that computer programs flag things with words or video elements they are looking for, an low pay army of personnel and contractors typically complete the process by quickly reviewing the item for censorship. The Chinese assembled the 50 Cent Army back in the last two decades to do that and keep the internet scrubbed for their population. The US did it through the NSA after 911, and that model has been followed by the social media companies. Programs sniff out possible postings and then people hired all over the world look over a sampling of the stack.

I had one for about 10-12 years and just deleted it about a month ago after having never checked it for a year. It's a vile place that puts people in an echo chamber and teaches them to hate people that disagree with them.
Stossel has been using FB to reach people, though. And it reaches a LOT of people who may not otherwise access his videos/articles, certainly not as easily.

Right now that law does not exist. I would not necessarily object to such a law but as I said in my first comment, it would be an example of the government controlling private industry.

I have FB friends from both sides of the coin, and I can only say with my small cross-section of evidence that my friends on the left are much more bombastic/hyperbole-driven when it comes to criticizing Trump or conservatives in general. During the Kavanaugh SC confirmation hearings, many would go on and on about how guilty he must be bc who would bring these kinds of accusations forward if they weren’t true. When I would ask them what if it was your son being accused - would you abandon him solely on one person’s decade’s old account and believe the accusation 100% without vetting it for specific details/accuracy/truth? Most would reply that their son would never do something like that so they would never be in such a position in the first place. Me: so your answer is obviously “no” since your defense would be: my son would never do such a thing. Why can’t you see the same logic here? They never had an answer and their friends would say I didn’t understand all the complexities of the situation. They simply aren’t able to apply the same rules for everyone. It’s frustrating bc I consider these friends to be otherwise brilliant and reasonable people. Politics can really distort, and that’s what’s happening with FB and other online platforms. They’re taking the coward’s way out.

Ethan Groß my solution is to make social media platforms public utilities. That way, anything that’s legal must be allowed on those platforms. If the electricity company that supplies your home with power doesn’t like your views on climate change, they can’t shut off your power. If the water company doesn’t like like your views on black lives matter or the police, they can’t shut off your water. That’s how I believe social media companies should be handled.
FB has litigation protection as a public forum, but they practice censorship like a publisher. That’s the whole issue. They’re trying to have it both ways.

Agreed, a hard situation. I always thought that "people will sort out the truth" as well, but after seeing the vast amount of clear misinformation that people readily believe today, I'm not sure I believe that anymore.
People on their own simply can't sort out the truth because we don't have time nor the ability to be informed on everything. It doesn't help that people tend to refuse to admit they are wrong, still voice their opinion on subjects they don't care about and so on. I guarantee close no one here has ever actually gone through a full climate science textbook, nor regularly consults scientific papers on the subject, yet absolutely everyone thinks their opinion is somehow relevant.
Ironically, neither have a lot of the people who claim to be educated in the subject.
I laugh at people who really think there is someone "fact checking" everything on Facebook! They use computers with keyword logarithms built into the system to determine what is "false" (conservative) and what is "truth" (liberal/leftist).
They are keyword "algorithms". A logarithm is a simple mathematical conversion of numbers. "Algorithm" is a complex formula of logic and decisions in this context: A computer program.
While true that computer programs flag things with words or video elements they are looking for, an low pay army of personnel and contractors typically complete the process by quickly reviewing the item for censorship. The Chinese assembled the 50 Cent Army back in the last two decades to do that and keep the internet scrubbed for their population. The US did it through the NSA after 911, and that model has been followed by the social media companies.
Programs sniff out possible postings and then people hired all over the world look over a sampling of the stack.

It may sound ridiculous, but a single person speaking out can reach a massive audience in time, and the more people will be reached, the more people will want to pass it along. Well sience agrees that when it comes to gender, you can be whatever you identify as, because that's what gender is, a way of identification, if you mean sex, no, nobody argues you can be whatever you want, so I don't see how this is hypocritical.
