Used to train with Mark and others in Pacific Beach. We did lots of hill reps on the grass at Kate Sessions Park. Mark was a powerful runner, of course, but also a very decent fellow. He didn't handle the long runs as well as some of us, though. He was a pure middle-distance man.

I met him at an all comers meet in San Diego in 1983. Very nice guy,he was there with his young daughter and a video camera
