Wow. Just thinking about how wild it would have been to be vegan in the seventies. Such a pioneer!!!
no doubt, I was born in 1973 :)
Can you imagine a world where no animal is exploited or harmed or treated as a commodity? One day our future generations will look back in absolute horror when they learn what their ancestors did to the animals, so unnecessarily!
The strength to be vegan for decades despite the environment you are in, is amazing. I love hearing this. The power of human resolve is so high.
Sending love and encouragement.
The lightness of not eating animal products has me so excited, that o can’t help but want to tell people. I love it. It’s not always simple but it feels like such an accomplishment to revisit.
Interesting interview. Thanks for sharing. Glad to hear veganism is so popular in Texas.
Very inspiring conversation, I was shocked when Gene revealed his age !
It must be wonderful to be surrounded by so many vegans and vegan restaurants, so encouraging to hear this is all taking place in Texas !
Thank you for these great interviews !
Thank you for watching and commenting! :) It's sooo much work doing all this alone... So, the feedback is greatly appreciated.
Yeah he definitely doesn't look his age (when compared to what people of that age look like atm)
Ethical vegans, humble and highly educated. Also, looking 20 years younger than their calendar age. Thanks for this great informative interview.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting! And thanks for your support 💚
How old is he?
@@charmersifyI don't recall right off. I shot this 2 years ago...
@@charmersify Gene is 81 years old.
@@TakeTheRedPill_Nowwhat!?! He looks a healthy 60 here. Wow
How nice to meet Gene and hear his story - he's an awesome person. So are you, Jeff - thank you for this wonderful work!
Thanks so much Deb! Thank you for being such an active part of this, it really helps a lot!
This Cat is 80 , that is wild ,Utmost Respect.

Lovely man and love his story! Makes me so glad I am vegan!!
I wish I had become vegan decades earlier but starting at 54 better late than never!

Great talk, and I am going to share it with some of my decidedly non-vegan Texas friends. It can be done, if they want to...
Sweet! Thanks so much!
Thank you so much you are such an inspiration 🩵🙏🌲🐾👼😇🩵🐶🐮🐣🐓
Thanks for watching and commenting! :) 🥝🍆🥔🍠🥬🍏🥗💚
I do have a regret, I didn't find out earlier in my life about veganism
I would say slapping carrion on my children's plate is my own worst regret. It is sure to stunt the empathy quotient. Empathy is the source of all of our wisdom. I would go so far to speculate our own physiology and dentures indicate a history of such sentiments. And I could surmise that animals are the forbidden fruit in Genesis.
Loved this man's talk. Good interview!
Thank you. Needed this stream. Finally able to reduce my meat eating to only twice a week. { Which is a large leap, for me }Other five days it’s home made vegetarian or vegan dishes and smoothies. My energy has increased, happier, and it is great to see there are more and more restaurants focused exclusively on interesting vegan cuisine. Love how it was explained, it is a gradual process. But light at end of tunnel will be reached; and there is a whole new world, ready to receive you. Blessings.
awesome! thanks so much for sharing! I stopped eating red meat in the early 90's just because I heard some really gross things about worms in them. I developed a predilection and preference for beans and in college in the mid 90's was fortunate to have all kinds of healthier options like black bean burgers, veggie lasagna, bean burritos, etc... near campus. When I watched Gary Yourofsky's best speech in 2011, thanks to my wife, I was like, oh, I'm done with meat eggs and dairy completely now! We were mostly pescatarian by that point. So, it was pretty easy. Hopefully you can do it quick :) Vegetarian is scary, most people are lactose intolerant and don't even know it. But, dairy seems to be hard at first for a lot a lot of people to ditch. The main thing is, going vegan is a philosophy, not a diet, we do this because we don't want to exploit animals which inevitably results in dehumanizing them and abusing them. We don't want to hurt animals, and we don't need to. And realizing this and manning up to it is what makes us vegan. It isn't a "diet" because there's more to it than diet, but diet has the biggest impact. As a vegan you find a way to make it the healthiest way for you, which is easy once you get it down. There's tens, if not hundreds of thousands of edible whole food vegan options within the legumes, greens, grains, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, herbs & spices; key is finding the variety that works for your palate/desires/needs. It's called, developing a sophisticated palate. There is a learning curve, just like anything new and great you want to do in life. And if for some reason you have any difficulties there's countless people ready to help. The American College of Lifestyle Medicine is evidenced based nutrition and you can find a nutritionist, dietitian or physician that will help. But, you may not need any help. It may take more effort at first learning how to shop and prepare. I like bulk cooking my legumes and grains so I have several days worth for the whole family. Prep greens and what not as well for the upcoming days. There's some amazing TH-cam channels on whole food plant based cooking too. But, it's really easy at the end of the day once you do it enough and it's fun to learn. Also, it's easy to google "whole food plant based vegan" and qualify it with whatever you have like "black beans, sweet potatoes, kale" or whatever you're wanting to mix up and get ideas for.
It's probably good to go gradual for some people so their microbiome may adjust. So, hopefully you can systematically remove and introduce new foods every day and be done and leave that death based diet in the past. My website has some cool resources, I'll be modifying this page dramatically later when I get caught up: VeganLinked.com/GoVegan

GENESIS 1:29 IS the WAY to FLOURISH in our health and overall well-being. God does NOT, and will not, disappoint! 😃 In truth, Genesis 1:29-30 are His promises for ALL (humans AND animals) in eternity, on the NEW EARTH, which doesn't seem to be a "distant future" (u noe, like 1000 or a million years) from the present time! Hahaha... 😂
Thank you. What an inspiration particularly growing up and living where he does. He remains so hopeful. Love to hear about all the vegans he knows and eateries. Will be the UK this summer. Perhaps, the vegan library is still around. So knowledgeable about fruits and veg. Will be listening to this interview again. Indeed, we need to respect animals as sentient beings including fish. See ‘TH-cam by Ed Winters on fish are sentient’. I coordinate VEG (Vegan Enthusiast Group) with a major university. Thank you for giving me more ideas for the listserv.

Dear Prof Elizabeth, may I recommend Farm Sanctuary's white papers with regards to chickens, cows, pigs, etc...to you? You may find these on their website. Cheers.

Thank you for this wonderful and most inspiring interview. God bless you all.
In Chinese mythology, Guanyin / Quan Yin is the goddess of mercy and considered to be the physical embodiment of compassion. She is an all-seeing, all-hearing being who is called upon by worshipers in times of uncertainty, despair, and fear.
Duc Quan tahn is a mall in Garden Grove that looks like the temple in Vietnam where animal symbolism shows how China helps Vietnam and vice versa!
I am an 11 tailed fox!
Welcome to the age of Aquarius!
What's up Richard! :)
Wow! Houston sounds like a great place to visit and eat at those restaurants.
Another amazing interview with a top guy❤
Ya, I thought he was in his sixties!!! Crazy
Great interview!
On SUPER PI DAY (3.14.15) HEB also had coupons clipped and xeroxed under each item in the store. My mom always uses coupons so I was laughing thinking this was a store my mom would run! I bought 15 pies for 1.20 each.
I really like the Scarlet Ruby Red Grapefruit. I had 16 pounds on 1/27/2015 from the Kroger in the medical area of Houston. They were $0.50 a pound. I gave them to the MD Anderson (I forgot the principle investigator's name running the lab) co-ed intermural soccer team with the warning that it counteracts birth control.
Gene is an honorary Nurse!
thanks so much for commenting and watching, Gene is the GOAT! :)
Interesting interview
Beautiful! Thank you.
Beautiful story. From the mouth of babes.

Good job brother
thank you!
This is rare. You look at this guy. And you think steak house Harry. And he looks damn good for 70 odd.
❤❤❤❤
This guy is an icon and don't know it
I miss Quan Yin!
What?? 80yo?? Wow. Datz too young to drink!!🍻
Is fish ok?😊
They are also conscious beings who want to live and who suffer when you hurt them. They feel pain and emotions. There is science on this. But the understanding is much deeper, that they are sentient as you are sentient.
Unfortunately it's gravely unsustainable to consume any sentient beings especially fish as they are being devastated with overfishing and this is having a catastrophic snowball effect on other ecosystems. Furthermore they bioaccumulate environmental toxins and they're fatty tissue such as dioxins pcbs Mercury and then of course pathogens like bmaa. So alternatively you can consume things like flax, chia seeds, etc to get your ala or take an algae-based supplement. Really though if you eat a proper variety of whole plant foods you may be getting enough effortlessly. But there may be advantages to taking the supplement especially later in life, maybe...
Actually the animals do know that they are going to be slaughtered for sure That's why they jump from the trucks and that's why they run and jump the fences before being shepherded into the slaughterhouse because they know exactly what's going to happen.
I was just explaining something similar to this to someone earlier today. But more in relation to Dairy :(
Also Emily the cow ... Such an incredible story💔💔💔

Why does my comment about the gentle barn keep disappearing??? Weird!!!
@@calliopelove I don't know. My settings for moderation are like on medium. I just drove 16 hours to Kansas yesterday so I can be doing interviews for a few days here before I go to Iowa, then Chicago, then Michigan, Ohio, and finally back home so it's hard for me to really manage the comments here while I'm doing all this work. But I'll try to have a look
No regrets? Ended hundreds of lives but has no regrets? What?
Ended hundreds of lives? Do you mean before he went vegan? Some people regret that they didn't go vegan sooner but at the same time not have that regret because it gives them a way of understanding others who have not realized this yet. Perhaps he has no regrets because he feels like he made the best decision he could as soon as he was able to understand. Maybe he thinks I was just asking if he had any regrets since he went vegan. Perhaps I could have explored that further. But he's done fantastic having been vegan so long in a place where there were so few vegans.
I don’t understand, he said he was vegetarian since he was a teen but he still slaughtered cows after he was married and had kids, because his mom liked meat?? 😢 That doesn’t make sense.
Did you keep listening because I asked for clarification? He said he was mostly vegetarian before he went vegan.
He clearly said he was primarily a vegetarian for the most part. Please listen to the video before commenting, and thanks for watching!
"Daddy, are we eating Francis?" 🥺
