A lot of the older houses are solid stone.
One comment I have is it would be really helpful to have a full single take on a walk through to get the full idea of the flow from room to room.

Interesting! Can you mention property taxes as they will be an ever-lasting, never-ending expense? And how big is the property? I notice many homes have postage stamp sized lots, a real pity. When one considers all that one can elect to do with $100K all around the world, it seems to come down to one word and that word is LOCATION. And you know better than the rest of us back in the States if it is indeed worth that amount of money. It also seems the world has indeed "discovered" Madeira and the days of bargains are over.
You could take that view with you anywhere around the world. Ask yourself, are you able to live a fuller life, a life you envisioned, sooner somewhere else over where you're currently living? Could Madeira be it? Well, that's what Alan and his family are doing their best to show you :)

Great to hear from you as usual. We will add in the actual property sizes and property taxes when they are available. It is interesting to note that unlike the US exact room sizes and property dimensions are not always given. Which means most of the time they look you like, "why would you want to know that?". Anyway. Property taxes are kind the same way. We toured a house down the road last year that was owned by a man that lived most of his life in the USA. So the first thing he said when we met him was: "My property taxes are 8 euros a year". His house and location were so big and so good that in the USA they would have been 25k at least.
Property has become very expensive here, just like everywhere else in the world. That part is no fun. So what you could have purchased a few years ago is now at least double. And people put random prices on property to see if someone will pay it. There is no Zillow to look and see what a fair price range might be.

I've been one of those $20K+ a year prop'ty tax payers so have come to expect the worst and your additional information is a most welcome upside. As a viewer, we are always thankful to come along for the ride with you all and see what you're seeing. 👏Keep it up!
@@allancurme And they do an excellent job of it. In many expat locales, there is the "local" price and then there is the foreigner price (ie, "Gringo tax.") I'm suspecting some of that is happening on the island, especially after examining home ownership rates and average annual incomes for local Madeirans. My comment relates to the market in general and not this one particular casita.

Thanks for watching. The.market is currently expensive but is worth watching. Depending on the economy we expect the pricing to become more.cost effective. Therefore right now it.may be difficult to find a property in this price range that wouldn't need aot.of work. But soon...

Actually that one wasn't damp in the house part. But the seller was going to be an issue.

I'm sure there are nicer homes in the area and I appreciate you showing what you can expect for $100k. I hate to say it but, that home was a dump.

That was decent, there's a lot of derelict properties on the north end of the island. 100k is probably 20k too expensive from what I had seen when on the island last summer.
