CLASSIC Old Fashioned GOULASH - EASY One Pot COMFORT Food
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 6 ก.พ. 2025
- Old-fashioned goulash is a hearty, one-pot American comfort dish not to be confused with the Hungarian version. This is made with ground beef, tender macaroni, and a rich tomato-based sauce. It’s a budget-friendly meal with savoury flavours from garlic, onions, Worcestershire sauce, and herbs. The pasta simmers directly in the sauce, soaking up all the delicious flavours. Optional cheese adds a creamy finish, making it a satisfying, crowd-pleasing dish perfect for busy weeknights or meal prep. Top it with sour cream and parsley!

This is amazing. A far cry from my mom’s recipe. Chopped onions, ground beef, Campbell’s tomato soup, kraft dinner and peas. It’s good because I grew up with it. Your recipe takes it up a big notch. Thank you Rik! You brought back fond memories.
Would like to have tried your mums sounds good. Appreciated. Thank You. Best, Rik
@ if she wanted to be fancy, she would toss in some sliced mushrooms.
@@darryldraper9708 Thank You. Best, Rik
Just like a whole lot of your videos, you hit this on right on the nostalgia button for me. We had goulash a lot as I was growing up. It was easy for Mama to make and served with her homemade bread was a one pot wonder, for us who knew how delicious it was. Sometimes she would break open a can of homegrown and home canned poke greens with it. There's a little variation from yours but that's what I like when you say to make it to your own taste. I am going to make your recipe though, looks tremendously delicious. Thank you.
@@MS-lh3oh Thanks for sharing, great memories. Thank You. Best, Rik
That's the goulash I grew up on! 😋 👍
What a fantastic up bringing! Thank You. Best, Rik
Looks just like the macaroni & beef I had years ago! It’s delicious!
That is a great comparison - they are both simple and very tasty! Thank You. Best, Rik
FYI. Here in a small area in Ohio we call it Johnny Marzetti 😊. Love goulash! Oooh I gotta make some soon!
What a great name - but why? Thank You. Best, Rik
I wonder why too I’m going to have to google that and see what I find never heard of that curious
@@BackyardChef It started at a restaurant in central Ohio called Marzetti's. The owner created the dish and named it after a relative, Johnny. Her version was baked. The last location closed in 1972. We went there once or twice when I was a kid. A relative went to school in Columbus and ate there often. I hadn't thought of that in years. For any US folks reading this she's the T. Marzetti of the salad dressing line. Her first name was Teresa.
For me, this is as good as comfort food can get. I really appreciate that you do such a good job teaching everyone how they can make meals from scratch and not eat prepared foods. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much. Appreciated. Best, Rik
Thank You Rik! It’s supposed to storm here this weekend (Saskatchewan,) - this dish looks like great comfort food. Thanks again!
I would enjoy a bowl or two of this if it was storming outside. Thank You. Best, Rik
That is great for a cold winter day! I had forgotten all about it. We call it Johnny Marzetti because supposedly it got its name from an Italian restaurant called Marzetti's in Ohio. Anyway, I just need to make it, haha!
Thank You. Fantastic! I wanted to know how the name came around. Best, Rik
PS. I was just thinking back to when you achieved your first 100 thousand subbies, and JUST LOOK AT IT NOW..........223 THOUSAND, SUPERB !!! and rising.

Yes, classic American food that rose in popularity when American women really started joining the workforce outside the home.
Back in the 1950s, it was also called American Chop Suey.
The entire point of the dish is that it's a quick one-pot meal to feed your hungry family, at very low cost.
Thanks for sharing, Rik. I make this dish at least once a month, and include a little diced green bell pepper with the onions. 💜
Thanks for sharing, I'm always very interested, Thank You. Best, Rik
Hungarian though originally.
Yes, this is what I knew is as when I first moved to northern New England in the early '70s. American Chop Suey, and it was everywhere! At home, at school, at the weekly VFW luncheons, right next to the macaroni salad and red snapper hot dogs, and three-bean salad (all about the sweet and the vinegar), and homemade baked beans (heaven).
@@joeblow578 Sounds fantastic! Thank You. Best, Rik
My Mum used to make Hungarian goulash. But I can't remember what it was like. This version looks much nicer, with the pasta and cheese. I've got to make this. Delicious. Thanks, Rik.

Best part of it: done within half an hour and still freshly made. For when it has to be quick. The sour cream does not only add the creaminess but also the necessary fat to make it a slow burning meal. Just beautiful! 😃👍🏻♥️

My mom's version used jarred spaghetti sauce. She always added diced green pepper. We called it quick spaghetti as her homemade meat sauce was an all-day production. Mix in some melty cheese and it was Cheeseburger Macaroni.

Nothing to do with either goulash or perkult (or however you spell it) but that being said: it looks very tasty and worth a try :-) Like The Bard says: ""What's in a name..." Thanks for sharing Rick !

I'm weird with tomato. Love it sliced on sandwhiches, burgers. A few cherry tomatoes in a salad.
Chunks in pasta sauce?!??! Hard stop. It is solid or fully liquid.

I've decided that goulash is what ever you think it is. My grandmother made a goulash with chop meat and tomatoes. We would ladle it it onto egg noodles. My grandmother was born in 1899. This goulash is just pasta and meat sauce cooked in one pot.
It is unless you are some purist. Thanks for sharing. ❤ Appreciated. Thank You

Hallo Rik.
I have no doubt that this is a tasty dish. But I find the naming "problematic". Thankfully, the text points out: This has almost nothing to do with a "Gulasc h" as it is prepared in Hungary or Austria, except for the use of beef and onions. "Mac & Beef" I would find a more appropriate name. But anyway... 👍
Thank You. Best, Rik
Sorry ,but calling a Sardines head an apple pie, is closer than calling that a Goulash...😂
