i grew up loving SNL during the late 80s and early 90s. Phil Hartman was the every man, that could be in every sketch. He was my favorite on SNL because of his versatility. I imagine, if he didn't tragically die, he would have gone on to so many more beloved roles across tv throughout the 00's

I try to watch watch one episode every season. I have yet to see one that was as good as classic Simpsons. I havent watched one this season yet. They seem to continuously waste set-ups and go the easy route on gags. The peloton episode was the last new one I saw.

I don't see Hank Azaria's voicing of Apu as racist. It was intentional and I even know a guy, who has Southern Asian heritage, who could do a DEAD-ON impression of Apu. Plus, the person who said Azaria's portrayal was being racist, Whoopi Goldberg, was later found to have made some anti-Semitic remarks herself that got her booted off "The View" for several weeks.
I called Fox TV and told them a white man said Apu's portrayal wasn't racist and even knows "a guy, who has Southern Asian heritage" that says it isn't racist. They reversed their decision and are going make him the primary focus of the show from now on.

He is treated warmly by the citizens of Springfield.

While I don’t 100% agree with the recasting of Apu, I do understand on some levels. An actor who I think would be great in the role is Kunal Nayyar. He’s very funny and is great at playing compassionate characters which is what Apu is.

I always thought the joke was that nobody really knows where they are. It's supposed to be a sort of "every town", that's why they chose Springfield, because there's a Springfield in like 30 different states.
The running joke of the show, is that they keep adding hints that contradict the other hints. The movie has a joke about Springfield's state being bordered by Ohio, Nevada, Maine and Kentucky. I'm pretty sure Groening's gone on record saying that despite being initially inspired by Oregon's Springfield, the town on the show has become "every Springfield" and serves as a stand in for "small town anywhere".
So people have a problem with a jewish actor playing an indian character Apu, but they don't have a problem with a 65 year old woman playing 10 year old boys. Or an Italian American Dan Castalleneta playing Krusty The Clown who is also Jewish.
Women playing boys is an animation production issue, as boys voices change quite rapidly as they get older. In a long running series, Women offer a greater acting range. When casting movies or specials, they usually do use children. Hank Azeria is actually Jewish. Both sides of his Grandparents were Sephardic Thessalonian Jews.
Apu still appears in the back ground in episodes from time to time without lines, I noticed him in background not to long ago in current season, old Carl and Dr. Hibert was much better, Carl doesn't feel like Carl anymore

I always thought the joke was that nobody really knows where they are. It's supposed to be a sort of "every town", that's why they chose Springfield, because there's a Springfield in like 30 different states.
The running joke of the show, is that they keep adding hints that contradict the other hints. The movie has a joke about Springfield's state being bordered by Ohio, Nevada, Maine and Kentucky.
I'm pretty sure Groening's gone on record saying that despite being initially inspired by Oregon's Springfield, the town on the show has become "every Springfield" and serves as a stand in for "small town anywhere".

So people have a problem with a jewish actor playing an indian character Apu, but they don't have a problem with a 65 year old woman playing 10 year old boys. Or an Italian American Dan Castalleneta playing Krusty The Clown who is also Jewish.

Women playing boys is an animation production issue, as boys voices change quite rapidly as they get older. In a long running series, Women offer a greater acting range. When casting movies or specials, they usually do use children.
Hank Azeria is actually Jewish. Both sides of his Grandparents were Sephardic Thessalonian Jews.

I just hope that they announce their final season soon and give all the characters a grand send off. Maybe that would be an episode worth watching.
As of now they are good through 2025. I’m happy for them getting renewed but they should’ve ended years ago
We will be death before the Simpsons end. Basically 9 great seasons and the rest is a bunch of crap.
I think they will make it to Season 40. Then maybe call it a day? Who knows? Viewing figures are poor but fans still like it.

Apu still appears in the back ground in episodes from time to time without lines, I noticed him in background not to long ago in current season, old Carl and Dr. Hibert was much better, Carl doesn't feel like Carl anymore

Regarding Apu, I don’t see why so many people care. The best Simpsons episodes still have Apu in them.
I find it weird that Apu was called out for being a "Negative Stereotype" as EVERYONE in The Simpsons is some sort of a negative stereotype one way or another

Problem with Apu is I’ve never once walked into a convenience store and seen anyone even remotely looking or sounding like Apu. No idea where they got such an outrageous idea.

I think it's super awesome that to honor the actor they remove the character as well, rather than re-cast them. Makes me want to put the main cast in stasis and only take them out to make episodes. Lol.
