Rod's Gasoline Alley album, released just before this, and Never A Dull Moment, released just after, are both in the same vein. Definitely worth checking out. Rod was also concurrently recording with the Faces, and their first two albums also feature the same grittiness. This is Rod in his prime.
Guys, please listen to some Stephen stills. He is a wonderful singer/songwriter and an underrated guitarist. My suggestions are 4+20, which is a song from early in his career, it's only 2 minutes, so you could easily do treetop flyer in the same video. This one is from later. He plays many instruments, including a mean electric guitar, but both of these are wooden music, just him and his acoustic. You won't be disappointed I promise. And love early rod stewart!!!
He was lucky to have had geeat musicians around him, without them, i don't know... I remember Hot Legs was on the radio all the time in high school...and Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?, too
Rod Stewart with the😮 Faces is best bar band you'll ever hear , honest songs by them that didn't get shined up in a studio P.S. ALL of the Faces albums have unheard fantastic songs that only their biggest fans have heard , YES , I've been a huge fan since early '70s , still have all their albums !! P.S. All of the albums
Damn, you guys absolutely nailed the feeling of this song! I was 12 years old when this album came out and I had an older sister who bought it. I took it from her album collection when I went away to college and she still doesn’t know that I have it. I’ve been listening to it ever since.
At that time Rod the Mod was voted the best male rock vocalist ahead of Robert Plant. He emerged from The Steampacket, joined Jeff Beck after he quit The Yardbirds, and then became one of The Faces (previously known as Small Faces) while starting his solo carreer. He could do anything from Soul to Hard Rock to Crooning to Disco but his roots always were lying in the Blues and Rhythm and Blues.
A excellent song from an excellent album by one of the greats!! And the reaction by the BEST IN THE BUSINESS!!!! Thanks, fellas, for a wonderful start to the weekend 👏🙏❤😊
My mum had a Rod Stewart cassette tape that she played in the car when I was a little kid. Ian McLagan's piano and organ, Ronnie Lane's bass and Ronnie Wood's guitar were so raw and identifiable. I remember seeing Moira Stuart reading the BBC News and thinking, in my child's brain, that she was the singer of the songs on that tape, as Rod's voice does have quite a high, female quality to it.
Fellas ... you just keep getting better. Pretty deep cut, and agree, the feel of this album (maybe it was kind of unplugged before that was thing). Had not dissected to the point that the first half feel needed to transition to the second half (with reverb etc.) ... but good call. Both with the Faces and these early solo jaunts, Rod had been true to his heartfelt-but-little-sloppy-but-stripped-down-bare-essentials-organic feel, and in my perspective, he was at his best. While always a fan, and loved the voice and attitude, from there, he kind of went over-commercialized. That said ... give "You Keep Me Hangin' On" (yes, a cover of the Supremes tune) ... a nod to the original Vanilla Fudge arrangement, which is highly recommended too. Same drummer on both cuts. Go there.
Rod has said that a nose injury he suffered playing football (soccer), that was never fixed, as a teenager may have had something to do with his uniquely raspy singing voice.
He had amazing talent backing him up on this album. All of the other members of Faces and other legends were there with him. Apparently contractual issues required practically everyone else to be nameless on the album cover.
Other not-as-listened-to gems from the Soccer Rocker to try are Gasoline Alley, from the album of the same name; Handbags and Gladrags from his solo debut album, An Old Raincoat Won't Ever Let You Down; Ooh-La-La, the title track from Faces final album; and I Ain't Superstitious from Jeff Beck's debut solo album Truth.
Hey, guys, will you ever react to "Lost Paraguayos"? I've been requesting it for at least a year now. It was released on Never a Dull Moment, which came out a year after this album.
Hello La & Che, I thought I'd suggest a new artist to give a listen, if interested. "Glenn Campbell Live In Concert Sioux Falls (2001) - Only Make Believe" (by the channel: Glenn Campbell and Much Much More) --This song was written by drummer Jack Nance (a member of Conway Twitty's band) and Mississippi born singer Conway Twitty, while they were touring in Canada in 1958. Twitty was a relatively unknown rock n roll singer at the time; and this song was his first hit single. reaching #1 on the Billboard charts in 1958. However, Twitty would go on to become one of the biggest country music stars of this era. And of course, Campbell was a masterclass musician (he was a part of the Wrecking Crew) but he also had a long and stellar career, covering several genres of music. It's been fun watching you two learn about the history of music whether it be "Muscle Shoals, Motown, and The Wrecking Crew" I've enjoyed every step of the way, Thanks fellas for the beautiful journey of sharing your musical experience with this old woman, it's been a joy. peace out~
I got a strong gospel feel from this whether intentional or not? Rods voice is one of the more authentic and original sounding in Rock. Since you’re touching on emotional driven music today Rid Stewart’s song “I’m sailing” leaves me a blubbering mess when I hear it, the song just takes me to the deepest areas of my feelings for several reasons; nothing fancy a pretty simple song too. Go figure! 🤷🏽♂️ just a suggestion. Have a fabulous weekend gentlemen ✌🏾😊
Every Picture Tells a Story, First Cut is the Deepest, Mandolin Wind and You Wear it Well are all a must-listen in my humble opinion.

Agreed, Rod Stewart was definitely in his prime in these days. These are all the songs i liked back then. Listening to this takes me back to then.
First album I bought with my own money. One of the best, if not the best voice in rock. Rod is a true legend.
And weren’t the Faces his band on his solo albums ? So pretty much still The Faces ?
Every song on this album is great!! 😊
yep. Perfect album. I love all those old Rod albums, Gasoline Alley, Never a Dull Moment. But this one's best.
Amen to that!
My first and still favourite Rod Stewart album.
Solid from top to finish!
Has a gospel sound, especially the chorus. Great track. Great job bros!
God I’m so happy I grew up during the 70s and 80s we had the best music I love you guys are reacting and appreciating this music
If you like gritty and pure vocal power without any frills you're looking
for Graham Parker..
Ronnie Wood: Jeff Beck not around? Let me try. Brian Jones gone? I got this.
Check out the small faces ❤
I’d love to see your reaction to The Killing of Georgie Part 1 and 2 from A Night On The Town album. I’ve yet to see anyone react to it.
The whole Jeff Beck Group Truth album is fire🔥🔥🔥
🔥🔥🔥👍🏼
Soooo Bluesy!!!
And TIMELESS...
Definitely! My preference is Beck Ola though, because it's another level of savage and mental
When Rod was still in the (Small) Faces, from their album "First Step": "Flying" and "Around the Plynth." Also a great album.
Great bass playing too, as so often in the 70s.

"Never a Dull Moment" another great album by this man
Deep cut here, could pick any song from this album all good.
This is definitely Rod Stewart’s best and my favorite album, in his later albums I think he became to popish
Rod Stewart in the early 70’s was a must listen. But I do have a fondness for “Young Turks” from the early 80’s. 💜💜💜
Great song from a great album

@AirplayBeats And you as well, my friends !!!
Check him out with Python Lee Jackson In A Broken Dream or with Jeff Beck.

Eggsackley ❤
Mandolin Wind baby! GOTTA HEAR IT!

Great album. Have to love Ronnie Wood on guitar 🤘
I saw him in Louisville back in the day. Opening act was FREE and in between were CIRCUS ACTS. Does ANYBODY have this memory???
Simple liquid coolness
Thanks La and Che! I have loved hot Rod since the early 70's!
Great song. Unusual mix with the bass right out front. Great stuff.
Guys you have to do You're In My Heart (The Final Acclaim)
It was no.4 on.the billboard 100 in 1977
Good review👌
Check out “My Way of a Giving” from Gasoline Alley. It captures the essence of the Rod solo/Faces sound from that early 70s period in rock music.
Rod has said that a nose injury he suffered playing football (soccer), that was never fixed, as a teenager may have had something to do with his uniquely raspy singing voice.

Different perspective
That was nice, thank you both
Thanks La and Che! There's not a false on this album Rod is known as
"The Story Teller" Every Picture Tells a Story is a MUST!

cant wait for the next sabbath album... will rip your head off with "hole in the sky"!!!
Sloppy but essential. The best album he ever made, warts and all.

Is the singer gonna hold up Trumps bloody head again?
