    cabasa most definitely. to me it sits at the perfect level. beads sound the same as well so if you want to be vibrant and colorful.

    The toilet chain worked really nice, but I'm a fan of metal beads. I made myself a while ago a drum key necklace, where the key is connected to the chain via a keyring, but the chain itself is a bead style chain so I always have with me a drum key and a set of rivets.

    Old snare wires work well too! Cut them in half and put them under the cymbal under the sleeve.

    For a cheap rivet, just use a dog tag chain. At an army surplus store near me they're only 75 cents. You can also put your drum key on one and never lose it anymore.

    Dig the dog leash and cabasa beads! I never thought about the cabasa beads before. Your a genius! Watch out with those regular Mardi Gras beads though. I tried those out before and one hit directly on them made it explode everywhere haha.

    Dont know if anyone said this but a chain from a sink/bath plug works really well u can also double it up for more rivets (there also really cheap) I attached mine to a giant keyring and it fits around most felts and hh clutches

      Or, you can go the Larnell Lewis/Anika Nilles route and use a deep 14" snare drum as a floor tom with snares.

      but toms are tuned quite differently. I was thinking you could just put snare-wires on a tom without changing the tuning. Or even better, try tuning a tom to use as a snare without changing the hardware

    @edhalfen7380 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    For me, David, these solutions each have the goal of a sizzle sound without destroying the cymbal or limiting it to a "with rivets only" mode. Dude you are brilliant and I applaud the simplicity and frugal approach. Unless one can afford and has duplicate rides, one with and one without (rivets) this is a good approach. I'm gonna look around my house and do one...or maybe two for different sizzles...Have a great day...Blessings, Ed

    • @presterjack9764
      @presterjack9764 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adding a rivet hole to a cymbal doesn't destroy it, and rivetd are removable. But I understand that despite my personal preference of not minding if there's a rivet hole, some people might not like it and it will reduce the value of the cymbal a bit. But I believe the real thing sounds best. Closest thing might be taping a rivet to the cymbal.

  • @ThorCullum
    @ThorCullum 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    to be really cheap(aka my school) just put a bend a paperclip a little bit and put it on the edge of the cymbal, slight difference but can work of you find a good bend.

  • @mikebarker9187
    @mikebarker9187 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    You want a device that doesn't rest along the full length of the cymbal from center hole to edge, as that produces too large a dampening/sizzle ratio. Find something that acts as an "arm" of some sort which extends ABOVE the cymbal from its anchored center point on the cymbal stand out to, and above, the outer edge of the cymbal. Then you want some sort of hard metal bead(s) hanging from the end of the arm down onto the cymbal near the edge of the cymbal. Using the lightest weight string (fishing line???) possible and perhaps only a single hard metal bead. You want the bead to bounce freely, have minimal contact with the cymbal and with the string and with any other beads. Less touching produces longer sustain of the sizzle. Greater numbers of beads reduces cymbal vibration sustain without producing greater volume. .... Long ago I had a commercial device based on the arm concept (but it didn't use beads). .... If you must hang a string of beads [or whatever objects] from the post, remove all the beads except one or two or three at the end, AND make sure these don't touch each other, AND use the LIGHTEST string possible..... Also... when doing your test recording, play single strokes at a sloooow tempo.
