- This week, I'm tackling a new project at the chateau-building a cutting garden bed using found supplies! 🌸 Join me as I transform a simple space into a beautiful garden for growing fresh flowers, all while making the most of the materials I already have. It's a true DIY Chateau project, with some unexpected challenges along the way. Plus, stay tuned for more updates on the ongoing projects around the property!
You could also use rocks from the property to outline the raised beds 😊👍
Strong woman at work!!! Thx for sharing all your adventures.
Wow ! So many projects continue to evolve ! Great progress and perseverance ! Love the multitude of improvements !💗👍😊
Thats a great start for flower beds! Using up junk wood is excellent, composted cow or horse poo would be a great addition. I cant wait to see this grow. ❤
I lived near a race track. I went to collect horse manure for my roses. They thought I was nuts, but it was the best decision.
Love a cutting garden. So far so good in the prepping
I think you did great. I love when people use what they have. Looks good !!!
That's a great makeshift raised bed!
1:53 the office looks so great behind you in this intro! Cutting garden idea sounds great & fun - an on going project!
4:54 love 💕 Bakelite knife rests - such patina and imaginative shapes !
Sunday isn't Sunday without The Chateau video!! Agree with other poster that the blue behind you in the office looks beautiful! Your research and garden bed are impressive! Glad attorney now involved. Cottage is looking great too! Wondering if Haley could come to the June retreat? Have a great week!
I know nothing about planting or gardening. I would have just sprinkled a bunch of wild flower seeds on the grass and let that water flow water themselves. Hats off to you for trying something new! Excellent job ❤
Be careful with these. They are sometimes packed with noxious natives. Better to know what you are planting for future garden management.
I'm an interior designer and subscribe to the William Morris school, which essentially says 'do not have anything about you that is not useful or beautiful.' Marie K would say, "spark joy."
Plant only what you love ~
The silverware resting set is so sweet. Love the whimsy animals. You might wanna think about utilizing the trees and branches and bushes around the area for a a base in your vases. I’d seen a few other château that started utilizing this method because of the different diverse trees and branches and bushes. I’ll look to see if I can fine the ladies name or the channel. I believe there was two different ones that utilize the same lady that takes trimmings from trees and bushes and brings it into her house rather than spending large amounts money on flowers from the florist.
The TH-cam channel is how to renovate a château . The episode is château Floristy on a budget.

I enjoy my sundays a little more with Château Chronicles, continue your great work. 🙂
Create 4 beds for zinnias, snapdragons, cosmos and dahlias. That will give you a nice basic assortment of cutting flowers. Then spread wildflower seeds that will flower at different times throughout whole property where you do not cut grass.
The lighting in your intro is beautiful! Good luck with your cutting garden, I have brown thumb and agree with doing it the lazy way. Looks great so far. So exciting to see all the progress on the cottage, I would love to rent it for a few months a year.❤
Yes, Abby, a drone might crash, but consider how much fun it would be until you did!
awesome the Bakelite knife rests! The cutting graden will be so cool. Have fun.
Excited to see garden come to life!!
Thank you for the heads-up, Anne of all trades, is perfect for me as I’m going to make my own raised beds to grow vegetables. Good luck with the retreat, and the upcoming flowers 😊
The New Cutting Flower Garden looks great , in time u could get another one up and running for Bulbs , like your spring bulbs and Lilies which the lilies come out after the spring ones are done . Great idea yes brought flowers are dear . 🐾💐🌺💐🌹🌼🌷
A lot of flowers can come from shrubs. You can plant a row of rose bushes, Hydrangea, Hibiscus and Lavender as well as a variety of flowering shrubs that you can use in vases. Garden centre's can advise you if you chat to them 😀
Mulch! Abbey it’s so natural and will keep the weeds at bay and break down into dirt plus you have so much brush that could be cleared and turned into free mulch buy the smallest wood chipper and it will save you so much in labor and materials ❤ ps you’re not lazy at all!!! your doing so much and editing is hard too ❤
22:48 you are so strong building up your lasagne garden! Garden 🪴 Great idea I think. Are you going to put bulbs in this winter? Like anemones and ranunculus for cutting?
You need to raise those beds ! You will just be weeding all the time a wood surround about 12 inches high at least !
You need to plant perenials so they come back every year and you dont have to do many annuals to suppliment them. You have lots of green trees everywhere, so there is lots of foliage already. A new flower garden is so much fun.
Be sure to get the thornless raspberries to plant. Get Tomas to pick up some rebar cut to hold your raised bed frames in place
Lasagna gardening technique! Had a neighbour who did one and had a lot of success with it.
If you don't want to be weeding constantly, then do raised beds. Once you get the size built, put down your cardboard then fill it with sticks, logs, newspaper, leaves, etc,. Then put your dirt on top of that. Once you get the bed ready, then you can plant your flowers. I am a huge fan on native wildflowers. I plant them every year. Some reseed themselves.
Hellebores are excellent cutting flowers for your property and will expand to make a carpet of color. They don’t like their feet wet but they love to be under the shade of trees. Early Spring flowers.
Always a problem. It would be fun to look back and see what life was like in that time.
Thank you Abbie! I am wondering what kind of palm plants those are near the cliff...so pretty!
I have used both the lasagna method and the black fabric. If your goal is to improve the soil, the lasagna method is the way to go. If you lazy and don’t want to pull weeds, The black fabric is the way to go. If you decide to use the black fabric do not cheap out, buy the best.
The garden bed looks really good for throwing it together. What kind of flowers were you thinking of planting?😊
Has Bruce talked anymore about buying a house there?
Having done both the no dig method and dealt with the black fabric method, I'd say you made the right choice for your cutting garden. The no dig is still work, but all you do is put stuff down. The black fabric is not at all flexible in terms of changing your mind about where you plant things. In the US you can get all the free cardboard you want from supermarkets. Just ask the manager or the people in the back!
Plus the landscape fabric is bad for the environment.
If you are thinking about have a fruit, herbs and vegetables" garden , you can make by putting like wood drawers with solid and this wayYou can plant different vegetables, herbs, etc. in each of them.
The best way would be to create a raised boxed flower bed(s).
You should get someone to come look at the water to see like where it’s coming and going with the cliff fall I think it’s being washed away from the houses/ streets above ❤
Hard work but it will be beautiful. It will be pretty from the road. Where’s Chloe?
Are you planting bulb flowers? Perennials? Seed?
Do you get winter there?
Where in the US does Bruce live?
Some rocks around would help….all that falling down just found theirs new home
I think u and Bruce should get together because u both have such respect for each other its better than being alone! 😊 Also I would continue living in the Chateau u have ur private room! Alot of Chateaus take the very top floor and make a apartment for themselves...But u have a Azuit to rent out shoot I don't know How to spell it 😂😂
Why so much, I was going to pay you $500.00 to help me clean and organize my house. Guess that’s not enough
Sorry that was for my daughter
Stop mumbling and get better sound
