They started to gel in the second half of ‘83. They struggled out the gate, then Halas dies on Halloween. Whether out of spite or tribute (or maybe a little of both), the switch somehow gets flipped. They win 5 of the last 6 to finish at .500 (with Bob Thomas’s last second FG in the deep freeze to eliminate the Packers from playoff contention in the finale, which got Bart Starr fired). That served as a launching pad for ‘84, and we all know what happened in ‘85.
I've been a Cowboys Fan since I was 7. My Uncle from Frisco Texas sent me the entire Cowboys football uniform I think I wore it everyday just about. But I loved watching the Bear's in the eighties. My Budro loved and dreamed about the Bear's. So when the Bear's would played I'd go to his house. When my Cowboys played he come to my house. But honestly the Bear's had a great team then. McMahon the Fridge Walter Payton Mike Singletary and many many others making them probably one of the best teams in NFL History. Just ask the Rams or New England fans and other teams from that era.
100% agree. 85 gets all the attention, 86 gets all of the "what if" reflection but it really was the 84 team that at least should have made the SB. Would have been an interesting matchup against the Dolphins.
True. McMahon was injured a lot that season … you think the 49ers would have gotten as far with an injured joe montana? Nah. I 100% believe with a healthy #9 the bears were unbeatable by seasons end.

7:16 Rest in Peace Franco Harris.
Love the play at 9:54
This was the year they became great

Defensively.
I like the period ads. But the video jams up.
This editing is a joke
The fast forwarding of commericals😂😂😂😂
Happy times😊
Incomplete film missing the playoff win at Washington
I thought I was the only one who peeped this out!
Nope I saw it TOO!!
Old Bud Grant must have sensed the juggernaut on the horizon in Chicago. Made a quickie RE-retirement!

The Bears would have to WAIT ONE MORE YEAR for GLORY.
Great defense genuises all well 150IQ we play contact sports in Chicago much love to world❤😊
in ALL honesty i did do and will SOMEWHAT like the bears
If McMahon was healthy, I think they would have had a real shot at beating the 49ers. That defense was fierce.

Kind of wish we got to play them in the 85 playoffs.
@@alexamerling79That week 6 beat down in Candlestick made all the statement that was necessary.
Can’t wait to the Bears have a winning season again .
They refuse to spend money anymore
The first year the Bears introduced their blue pants for their white jerseys.

Who knew they needed only to purchase a 'kitchen appliance' in order to become champions the next year!
The 83 draft put the bears over the top
84 set up 85
They had unfinished business heading into the 85 season
They should have won more than one super bowl
QB Jim McMahon could not stay healthy!
He was a marked man as QB. Bears had hurt so many QB's
that pay back was inevitable!
Still trying to replace Sid Luckman at quarterback! Incredulous!! What a joke of a franchise.
McMahon was on fire in 1984. Had he not been knocked out in the Raiders game, he might have won MVP.
I would’ve benched Payton for carrying the ball like that
Underated
