This guy was not just a Delta Operator, but a legend at the Unit. The fact that he has the humility to compete as a purple belt in a Jiu-jitsu tournament says a lot about his character.

For real...to be top tier Delta...age...then start out in a new discipline and complete in public. Testament to not being held in a box.

Yeah, I could see his bio for these meets. "John McPhee is an American studying Jiu-jitsu since 2008. Is 6'0" and weighs in at 255 lbs. He is a purple belt. Footnote:He's killed several 100 dirties all around the globe. Good luck"

"Humility to compete as a purple belt" - that's a wild statement. It's not showing humility it's showing he's a normal person.

Yeah shout out to John at his age. I've been training no gi bjj for a decade plus now and recently got into gi jitz and although I did okay, I was getting schooled a bit lol. It's almost like trying to ride a bike again learning gi jiu jitsu vs no gi and that is a mental and physcial battle. Much respect for anybody new, especially older, getting into it and really going for it.

John, you’re the soldier that all roads lead to. I first ran into you after Pat was on w Jocko.., as funny as that sounds.., I started that podcast but as soon as I did when I looked at the comments people were talking about how the there was a guy called the Sheriff of Baghdad who once “killed 1,000 people in a night” which was gravely taken out of context.., but the things they were saying about you made Pat look like.., well, Pat. There’s was little content of you back then.., but not long after Ryan Fugit had you on and I became a fan of his through you. I just want to thank you for giving your story so freely and staying true to yourself these last 13 years…and for doing Combat Stories when you did. It’s good to see you competing and still living life doing what you love.

John, the fact that you’ve read everyone of these comments, and have put so many heartfelt responses next to them; is a testament to all who read the establishing yourself as an absolute leader who’s earned every bit of it with study, commitment, and sacrifices, such that the American historians who were write about you will never know.
John, whether you like it or not, you are an American icon. I love ya and appreciate you, brother.

Old wrestler here, I kept yelling at the screen for John to heel pick his opponent, it was sooo close! If he could have gotten one arm free. A lot of guys lead with their right foot so if you’re slightly left hand adept it’s kind of lined up if you can make it happen.
I know in the shape I’m in I would never last a full match unless I got a quick pin either way! Me pinning the other guy or me getting pinned. Lol
Props to you for getting out there and doing it, then putting it out there for us to see!!

You da' man! Excellent job. I'm 64 years old, after nearly a lifetime practicing other striking martial arts, I started training BJJ at 36. Now a 4th degree bb. Competed into my fifties in both bjj and judo. Still teach on and off. I've had shoulder surgery, (still a bad shoulder), leg surgery, broke my tibia on the mat in bjj, on and on. I've got injuries on top of my injuries and I don't regret a single f*cking day of training or competing. BJJ is a physically exhausting sport, especially against a room full of younger men every night. Seriously sir, you have all my respect.

  • @themadminuteman
    @themadminuteman 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

You have more power than him, and he was pretty worn out the second half. He was just trying to nullify and milk the clock after he got his points.
I took Judo and Japanese Jiu-Jitsu back in the day (for what it's worth), and in Judo the idea is taking your opponent's balance always. When you went for the foots sweep, he basically pulled you straight down since your balance and momentum went laterally. Attacks and are always counter or perpendicular to the opponents movements.
Another other option, if he was maybe able to have more power would be to try to rotate you off balance, but that takes more finesse and generally means both folks go down.
You gave him your back and he didn't immediately go for an sub. That is telling he was not comfortable being the aggressor.
Loved your AAR analysis, always on point with your insight!
    - Stephen

Entered my first at 48. Thought I trained well and decently intense and still nothing matched stepping in the mat at Worlds. Looking back the experience leading up was most valuable, but also overall experience on the mat and with my teammates supporting, and supporting them too.

I’m 28. I’ve been battling with some depression issues lately and your attitude has really given me perspective on my life. Thank you for that.

do BJJ. that depression will go away. Cant be depressed when you are trying not to get choked out lol

@@joepic85 hahaha. Yeah, thats true. I moved to a town with a MMA gym in high school my freshman year and these guys kept talking shit to me, so we did “body shots” I kept up and actually won. This kid decides lets roll, he choked me so hard my eyes felt like they were gonna pop out and my Adams apple made me feel like something was jn my throat. Ignorance and being a teenager made me continue to call him a bitch and refuse to tap- I woke up with him standing over me scared to death. He had choked me unconcious. Hes a pro fighter now and were best friends to this day. 🤣👌🏼
Depression is weird thing though! I think once I find my way again I will get over it. Its mainly the recourse of my actions, my sons mom cheated and now I’m paying for it by her using him as a weapon against me. Shitty situation but its mine to deal with.

@AceAndrew00 if he hurt your Adam's apple then he choked you wrong . Ha

@@joepic85 It wasnt my actual Adams apple. I was trying to convey that it felt like I had a lump in my throat, but yeah he wasn’t the best. We were kids though and I wasnt going out easy. You ever tried choking a horse while its trying to buck you off? 🤣🤌🏼
I like watching Danaher teach. I think if I ever got taken to the ground I could hold my own unless it was someone who had trained. I've always wanted to learn… its never too late though.
I've always been into boxing and stand up but I think versatility is crucial in anything in life. How would you go about starting? Like walking into the gym then what? I don't know the culture too well.

This video i think may have just encouraged me to start training again. Seeing you out there knowing you're gassed but keep pushing.. I'm 40 years old. I still weight train and run stairs but no mma training of any kind in almost 5 years now. I just get so fu
