Yeah ... That's precisely why i decided to extend my insurance another year and stick with my PF1. if i had to go to the taller slab phone profile, I'd go back to the galaxy z fold line. I cannot agree more, giving up on the 'Passport format' is such a step back. Reminded me of the Surface Duo (that I miss a lot). The one handed mode makes it or break it. I am sticking to the Pixel Fold (original) just for this reason.
The Fold department has not been addressed with any such updates to their weak UI. Only their regular slabs getting any attention. If you need more, look to Samsung or better yet OnePlus Open
I love how the phone looks and the bezel can be hidden with a case. Also, coming from an S22 Ultra that is a 6.8in screen, I'm adjusting to small this front screen is. I love it.
Thanks Shane. I watched the video on my Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which I received yesterday. I absolutely love it. It does feel like I'm holding a flagship size phone. Your comments about one handed use sound fair. I always type with 2 thumbs, going back to BBOS days so, it is not relevant to me. I really like the look when closed at all. In fact, when I opened the package, my better half said right away, I want one. As you said, the pics are surprisingly good. They're far better than I expected. I shared pics of one of our cats with other Pixel owners and the response was that the original looked very good. The version after I used zoom enhance was stunning. I would give up the few millimeters extra of the internal screen to get rid of that awful, unsymetrical bezel on the outside. I haven't seen anything from the Pro Fold that would make me move off of my OnePlus open, but even if I did, I dont' think I could live with that outside screen look.

I know this is an unpopular opinion but i actually quite like the camera bump. Because it crosses the midline it doesnt really rock or wobble on a flat surface. Its big for sure, but it definitely looks more "Google" to me than even the gen 1 fold camera bar.
Yeah, it's actually my favourite camera bump on current gen foldable. I had a Z Fold 3 & 5 and HATED the cameras on that. the bump stays out of the way of my hand when I'm actually using the thing. S-tier. I agree with the side bezel on the front being ugly, especially compared to the OP Open, but I much prefer the actual use experience over the Z Fold 5 & 6 (never used an OP O)
@@aidanleenstra1605I'm glad at least someone agrees with me! I can't disagree about the hinge/bezel, but I vastly prefer this normal phone outside screen form factor to either the z fold or even the Gen 1 pixel fold if I'm being honest so it doesn't actually end up being a huge deal to me.
1:15 complete agree about that camera bump. The horizontal centering meant SO MUCH. And I agree about the side chonk too. I feel like the front screen bezel may have even been acceptable if there wasn't just that side chonk. Letting that screen widen into the unused left space would have at least gotten us closer to symmetry.
I don't think the camera bump looks good either. It's so strange they took the Pixel 4's bump and made it worse. Also, seriously, why didn't they just stick with the camera module look the other Pixel 9 phones have?
Ah i just got mine... Question... Is the Samsung Z fold 6 the only phone that you can have different inner display apps than the outer display? Meaning The apps on the outer display are not in the same spot when you open up the phone or actually on this pixel fold there in the same spots on the inner display is the outer display but the z fold 6. Lets you put them a different locations?
Would you still recommend OP Open, is it worth getting? I don't chase trends nor the latest phones but looking for a foldable right now. Magic V3 is a bit pricey for me.
@@scaryifliteral it's 1300€ (900€ if I trade my s23 ultra) over here. The new pixel fold is the same price currently as well. But not really liking the pixel at all. Not sure what to do.
That thick bezel on the outer display on that one sized I appreciate. Hoping case makers utilize that for better adhesive for that side. I went though SOOO many cases on my Z Fold 4 because the cases were so thin and I kept breaking them
Regarding the camera bump on the left side, I remember a Google official explaining this is to counterbalance the weight of the hinge on the right. Makes sense to me. Shane, does it feel well balanced in your hand?
They made totally illogical decisions with their design. It was as if they were sabotaged with rediculous design parameters. They could have centered the screen. They could have kept their own camera bump, instead of choosing ancient iPhone square design. They should have NOT kept those cheap glossy plastic bezels on inside main screen. Just rediculous choices at odds with common sense!
It sounds crazy but I prefer the original Pixel Fold design. It was one of the highlights of the device, on top of a folding phone finally having PixelOS and a Pixel camera. Now there is less of a reason for me personally to get this device. Glad I was not impulsive this time and pre-ordered this one at launch. Happy with the Fold6, OG Pixel Fold and Vivo X Fold3 Pro. Thanks for the video, Shane.
I bought the phone and I really love everything about it. It's not heavy, I love the ai features. It looks good to me and I can't wait for more cases to come out.
My next phone will definitely be a foldable, i think i'm gonna hold off on the Fold 9 and wait to see what One Plus and Samsung does wit their next devices
Happy you talked about temperature. I had to return the galaxy s24 because it was to warm for me. I am thinking of getting iPhone 16 because it has vapour chamber.
2:08 The protruding hinge frame on the edge of the Pixel 9 Pro foldable is not a massive problem but its absence can polish things up for a more cosmetic look. If the typical customers has nothing to compare the Pixel fold protruding edge, it wouldn't be a problem to them. But the minute the customers is shown a comparison with one like the Honor Magic foldable they'll be instantly jealous. Now you've open their minds to a more cosmetically pleasing external screen. So the bezel itself is not the problem it is the presence of the hinge that stands out (conspicuously). 2:56 The Z fold 6 outer display wins first place, then OnePlus, and third is the Pixel 9 Pro foldable, for the more symmetrical bezels and a non-existing hinge. 5:02 A one handed mode would be very handy and convenient for many people.
As an iPhone user, but someone who is fascinated by the foldables particularly book style, I have been finding my pixel 9 Pro fold quite laggy in some apps for example Evernote. I recognise that it might not be the phone or the processor. It might be the Android version of the app. I am also trying to get used to Android but have find the pixel much more user friendly than Samsung's. So far I am impressed with this pixel fold but I am debating my use case as I continue with my main daily driver as an iPhone. But loving the form factor of the foldable for content consumption and large screen.
The old phone is shorter and wider. This is why the side bezel is less noticeable. The new phone being narrower draws the eyes to all things vertical, including that unsightly bezel..
Dude, I'm doing that look back meme right now with the Pixel 9 pro fold looking at me in disgust as I check out the Honor Magic v3 that just walked by. It's better in every way, and cheaper! And it actually has band 71 support for T-Mobile 600mz 5g. It's $300 cheaper than the 9 pro fold... It's better in every way.
Hey, Shane. I have a theory and since you're experienced and have the devices, please ponder on it and share your thoughts if you find something interesting. Maybe the reason for the designs of the Pixel 9, Pro and Pro 9 XL is because this design was needed for the Pro 9 Fold (hinge and folded form). Then and only then it made sense that all 9 series have the same frame design to keep all of the series' cohesive. Thanks.
You got the Pixel Watch 3 ordered? What size did you choose? I'm around the little below 16 cm wrist gang and felt tempted by the 45 but honestly i think it will be too big. If you follow any watch guide it is definitely too big. But the bigger screen and especially battery is tempting. Although funny enough Google shows the same battery life for both models. What are the wrist sizes out there? What size are you opting for?
Has anyone else noticed that the two halves of the inner display touch when closed? Every time I open the device I have a spot on both sides that reminds me of a Rorschach test
Would you please do a comparison with the Duo/Duo 2? I feel like I'm getting ready to move on from my beloved Duo, but I'm not sure which folding phone to switch to next.
I have the exact same feeling about the bezels. The OG Pixel Fold design creates a separation between the front panel and the hinge area, which makes it less noticeable. It was a bad decision to integrate the hinge part into the front frame. It makes it look huge and even more asymmetrical. Compared to the OPO, it’s a complete disaster.
It's so odd that gmail *still* doesn't go into "tablet" mode on unfolded devices. It's been like that forever and in personal experience at least 2 years since I first got my ZF4
Design isn’t bothering me…..the design issue that just makes my head explode is that they’ve placed the Google logo on the back and haven’t centred it in the wireless charging coils. Placing a stick on magnetic ring has to be placed in a bizarre position and I’ve seen that some case manufacturers have been caught out with the placement.
I'm happy to report that i consider thermals good. Today i was on a parking lot inside my car plugged in to android auto, in a zoom meeting with the screen open at max brightness. And the phone was maybe slightly warm. Yes i had the AC on but ive had other phones including iphone that overheats only playing musing while connected to the car. So far not bad
I almost returned mine today. Adding a case turns it into a massive brick. Plus the front screen is so much smaller than my 8 Pro XL. Plus I'm not a fan of how TH-cam is formatted; it places the comment section to the right in about a inch and a half space (super narrow). I like the bigger unfolded screen, but im not sure it's worth the flaws
I was taken aback by the bezels at first as well. But after seeing how great the phone is, I seemed to have tricked myself into thinking it's not ugly anymore 😂 Not to play devil's advocate here, but my fat fingers might need them bezels
I absolutely love the look of this new Pixel Fold, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. It's one of the best looking folds out there. It's competition in looks is probably the Honor Magic V3
Craig... Admit it... You are still in love with the physical side of the Surface duo... I mean people bang on about how thin the honor magic v2 /v3 is... But the surface duo did that years ago... If only ONLY Microsoft would make a dual screen with a front screen... Imagine even a duo with a Motorola razr 50 plus screen on the front.... And modern processors.... Wow... #makeithappenmicrosoft.. 😎😎😎
That's a tough question. I prefer the pixels software and general user experience as well as the extra width of the internal screen. OnePlus definitely takes charging speed and overall appearance/form factor.
@@scaryifliteral I have the Pixel Fold V1 , is there any progress regarding Multi tasking with the new version Pixel Fold ? Can you make a short review specific regarding Multi tasking please ?
I don't think it's ugly at all. And the bezel on the hinge doesn't bother me because it helps give me a bigger inner screen. And the camera bump is actually pretty convenient for my finger to grip on the extra weight. Not to mention I'm definitely not going to an 2k dollar phone without a case. And coming from a pixel 7 pro reachability on the outer screen is totally fine cuz it's still smaller then the 9xl
Google has done a great job with the rigidity of the hinge and it's ability to make the unfolding function to be absolutely flat. The tablet mode need to be the default function for all apps, Gmail need to get that tablet mode function. 😎💯💪🏾👍🏾
I laughed when you said "it's just ugly". That was the very last thing I thought you would say about it. Never mind, you may get used to the bezels, and the camera bump and having to shift your grip to use it.
They slowly get better so you'll want the next one. They never want to be truly current with available hardware. They are heading to uncharted areas where they can't get much better. A.I. might save the day for them for a little while anyway. Then the tech bubble will pop, and they can look forward to huge stock gains again.
I got it with Trade in around $1k. It is worth it in my oppinion, the phablet is great for a travel Tablet in between. Can't see the crease warching shows, playing games, or reading. With a case on It looks good in my oppinion and it has up to 3 running apps at once which is cool. I liked the look better than the Samsung Fold and got $300 more in trade in for the google Pro 9 fold($1000 trade in value). I still think the Pixel Fold looks better than the Samsung fold.
Those dual pane Google app updates had better be available soon on other portrait foldables. It would be complete BS if Google kept that to the Pixel 9 Fold only. TH-cam and TH-cam Music are paid services - I should get the proper UI on my Fold 5 just as the P9 Fold does.
I disagree about the looks. I think it's just fine! The camera bump and bezzles don't bother me at all. The only thing I'm disappointed with so far is that Gmail doesn't open with the tablet layout. I also love the hinge. And I think there's a significant improvement in the crease.

I'm just surprised how basically _every_ reviewer of the original Pixel Fold said how they liked the form factor - and what does Google do? Of course they change the only point that unanimously got compliments... 🤷🏼♂️
Yeah ... That's precisely why i decided to extend my insurance another year and stick with my PF1. if i had to go to the taller slab phone profile, I'd go back to the galaxy z fold line. I loved my z fold 4, it had so many more features than the PF, but the passport form factor seals the deal for me. its why i chose to stay with the surface duo 2 for so long, given its many flaws.
@@velocity211Google design team has been infiltrated by Samsung knights to sabotaged their design with f00l1sh ideas of same cheap plastic glossy bezels and deformed outer bezel, instead of a wider or centered front screen. Even made the mistake of copying outdated square iPhone camera bump.. really sad sabotage.
Meanwhile they didn't address anything to make it competitive against the year old OnePlus Open.

They're called "Pixel Peasants", to suffer with the bare limitations of both folds UI. At least Samsung offers a better UI. Google needs to wake up & address their weaknesses.
Only the early adopters know better to "jump ship", to enter freedom with the OnePlus Open...
I cannot agree more, giving up on the 'Passport format' is such a step back. Reminded me of the Surface Duo (that I miss a lot). The one handed mode makes it or break it. I am sticking to the Pixel Fold (original) just for this reason.
Can you enable "desktop mode" on the video output like you can on the Pixel 9 Pro? Maybe make a video or a Short showing this?
The Fold department has not been addressed with any such updates to their weak UI. Only their regular slabs getting any attention.
If you need more, look to Samsung or better yet OnePlus Open
Love the way it looks and feels in my hand. Very happy with this device
I appreciate your videos and coverage of the world of Pixels and competitors.
Dude this phone design looks so good, you probably on your own on this one
Ok Shane the new pixel fold or Samsung fold?
Hey Shane, just want to say i follow alot of channels on youtube, ive recently gotten way into folding phones, and discovered your channel. And wanted to say your my fave channel. Unlike many other channels that just read spec sheets of products, you actually give good personal and insightful opinions. Just wanted to say keep up the good work and thanks for the content
Thanks!
I would give up the few millimeters extra of the internal screen to get rid of that awful, unsymetrical bezel on the outside. I haven't seen anything from the Pro Fold that would make me move off of my OnePlus open, but even if I did, I dont' think I could live with that outside screen look.
Good thing you are not one of google designer coz your taste is awful 😂😂😂

What I said the moment I saw the bump was that it's weird, but some will love it, and the rest of us will get used to it in a few months 😂
@@erickbarnard520agree
It absolutely wobbles when it's unfolded.
I love how the new front looks, but TOTALLY 100% understand how it's hit or miss. But totally agree on the resolution for the front.
Google phones are all exHTC developers and designers, great seeing them still around
I also love how the phone looks. Modern. Way better than the OnePlus Open's camera bump or Honor's Magic V3's camera bump.
Just got mine and I absolutely love the looks.in fact it's why I chose it over the alternatives
Love your honest take on projects. I’m wondering about getting out of my oneplus open and into the pixel so I’m excited for the full review.
Hope Google goes back to the original form factor for the 10 pro fold. The original pixel fold's form factor was perfect.
I don't think the camera bump looks good either. It's so strange they took the Pixel 4's bump and made it worse.
Also, seriously, why didn't they just stick with the camera module look the other Pixel 9 phones have?
I like the looks a lot. The left bezel has something friendly about it. It reminds me of a small booklet. It's sort of cute.
I like the new camera bump I'm coming from one plus open so it's better to me
Talking about hinges. Played around with my Duo yesterday after a year in a drawer, and damn that hinge is still king.
I think they did the front bezels that way for future pixel folds. They can upgrade that next year.
For the right price, absolutely
There's certainly some logic to that. While it does feel top heavy, it is fairly well balanced and the other direction.
Great freakin review dawg. Really considering getting this over the XL pro
Great review, had a closeup look...planning to go for z fold 6 itself.
The passport size was superior. They should've stuck with that motif.
Hey Shane, what about the Kindle app?? Does that have the tablet layout on the new Pixel Fold, as it did on the previous one??
U do great job. Useing a Samsung S24 Ultra and see u from Tennessee . Hello from Jackson, TN
I agree that the camera bump/mountain should have been shifted more towards the middle so when on a table it doesnt wobble
Making a round screen vs squared off just will look better because no matter what the hinge part has to be squared off
Happy you talked about temperature.
What is the best foldable available in the US? The OnePlus open still?
The old phone is shorter and wider. This is why the side bezel is less noticeable. The new phone being narrower draws the eyes to all things vertical, including that unsightly bezel..
Dude, I'm doing that look back meme right now with the Pixel 9 pro fold looking at me in disgust as I check out the Honor Magic v3 that just walked by. It's better in every way, and cheaper! And it actually has band 71 support for T-Mobile 600mz 5g. It's $300 cheaper than the 9 pro fold... It's better in every way.
Great video. Even better shirt!
Getting mine today it's literally out for delivery now can't wait to get it..
How is it? Thinking of getting one myself and coming from the pixel 7 pro
@@rickycrofts7677 I love it had it a few weeks now and it's awesome..
The phone gives off a 3ds xl vibe and I’m all for it
Thanks.
I'm so torn between the open and the 9 pro fold. They are so close to each other in so many ways but also so different in some
Thanks Shane. Not for me, but love what you do!
Honestly i really like the design of the p9pf. It may just be the matte black but it just looks a lot more sleek to me.
Im not a fan of the original pixel fold because i am a bezel hawk but i think passport should be the way to go over hot dog fold.
The case I have makes it look much better, but I have to agree. The new one looks like two steps back, in design.
I agree. The bezels are just thick. I’d almost rather have the slightly thicker top bottom bezels on the OnePlus open at this point
Cases will make it look way better, though.
What's rediculous is that Google has not addressed anything to compete against the OnePlus Open. It's a year old, and still better.
Are you able to send instructions on how to get the layout of your phone? I would like that exact layout.
Hi Shane have you had the issue that when on a call the proximity sensor not working and your screen turns on and off when holding it to your ear?
The thumbnail... How the fuck are phones selling with these massive bezels and be over $1K
I thought I was alone but I love how the pixel look
I almost returned mine today. Adding a case turns it into a massive brick. Plus the front screen is so much smaller than my 8 Pro XL. Plus I'm not a fan of how TH-cam is formatted; it places the comment section to the right in about a inch and a half space (super narrow).
I like the bigger unfolded screen, but im not sure it's worth the flaws
The camera should just go across the entire phone and just have hollow space on the last quarter of the device just to make it look uniform
I really like it especially once you put the Google case on it.
I don't notice the camera bump at all. glad i didn't see this video before buying, might have made me second guess it on such a non issue.
Craig... 😎😎😎
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"
"You might think this looks great"
I... don't see how"
Ahhhh. The contradiction is astounding. 🤣
I can't tell you how many times in my life I've gotten in trouble for saying something in a serious tone that I thought was pretty obviously sarcasm.
So after using it for 24+ hrs , which one you recommend me to buy ? The Pixel 9 Pro Fold or the OnePlus Open ?
I think the big bezels might also bother you because it's a narrower screen?
Yeah I think that's part of it. A more narrow aspect ratio makes it look worse.
Shane, will you be getting the global version of honor v3?
Financially hard to justify
Google has done a great job with the rigidity of the hinge and it's ability to make the unfolding function to be absolutely flat. The tablet mode need to be the default function for all apps, Gmail need to get that tablet mode function. 😎💯💪🏾👍🏾
I laughed when you said "it's just ugly". That was the very last thing I thought you would say about it. Never mind, you may get used to the bezels, and the camera bump and having to shift your grip to use it.
Great vid. We shouldn't be celebrating mediocrity however tho. Chinese phones are way ahead of Google in nearly every way
They slowly get better so you'll want the next one. They never want to be truly current with available hardware. They are heading to uncharted areas where they can't get much better. A.I. might save the day for them for a little while anyway. Then the tech bubble will pop, and they can look forward to huge stock gains again.
Wow something on TH-cam less than 90 minutes😊
