One of my favorite stretches of road in the entire country (between I-75 and I-65). Feels like those mountains will swallow you whole :) Thanks for another great video Jim!
At around 3:30 ("Crossing Missionary Ridge"), that small stretch is known locally as the "Ridge Cut." When the interstate was built, they actually cut out part of Missionary Ridge to make way for the road. If you go up on the ridge today, you can see where roads end at the Ridge Cut. Go to the other side and you can see where they resume.
FANTASTIC combination of music, lighting and traffic conditions, subject matter, and descriptive annotations to guide us all through this one, all the way to the base of Monteagle. Also like your new slide-in feature of shortened annotations with the maroon banner for "quick-tip" info. Great video, all throughout...putting this on the "favorites" list.
All I can say is WOW what a ride. I now know I have to get to Chattanooga for some Socarboy action. Interesting ride on I-24 and showing it's uniqueness hugging the GA-TN border. My only experience in Chattanooga was a very brief business day trip there in 1995. I definitely would love to see that area again!
+socarboy Thanks, yes the Chattanooga area (Within 50 miles) is pretty neat from a road standpoint as you'll see in the next two videos and then there's TN-111 in the Sequatchie Valley to the north, hope you get a chance to do some filming in in this region some day.
The entire video was great from beginning to end. Loved the editing, especially during the guitar solo, really made the video come alive. An overall fantastic ride!
As usual ya'll, FreewayJim does it again. Nice revamp of the intro, wonderful footage, and the perfect music for the region. I played this video like 3-4 times consecutively. They don't make music like that anymore. Go FreewayJim!
I was down in Chattanooga, driving those very roads about 14 years ago, seeing Lynyrd Skynyrd play at the Riverbend Festival, as well as Dickie Betts. Lookout Mountain is pretty spectacular. Not sure if you got the chance to stop by and see it. Fantastic video, Jim! Of course, we've come to expect nothing but spectacular from you after all these years!
Awesome ride Jim, I love the mountain side appearing into view, then the drive along side and through it. The constant speed variances threw me for a loop, but it was still an awesome sweet ride..
I've made that trip a few times, as I've stated before somewhere. Once in the 70s, northbound, as a kid. this as before the new split which created the huge median, this side of Monteagle. Once during the construction, and again, though southbound, back just before this past Christmas.
Very nice ride! Always good to see Tennessee as I have never been there before- and always good to see parts of a highway I have been on in Ohio- meaning I-75- very nice ride and a great song to go with the ride too!
+cloakingmocha7 I've been doing road trips since the early 80's, usually between Atlanta and New England to visit family. The first trip I did to specifically film roads was to Texas and Kansas City in 2007 (and those crappy videos are still on here, lol). Yes, I always stay in hotels while on the road, usually a Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express but sometimes whatever is available.
You did really squeeze the best out of both the soundtrack and the drive! The guitar solo here sounds better to me than in Lynyrd Skynyrd's version by the way.
+James Greenfield Thanks, 22 lane highway, yeah I've filmed the 26 lane Katy Freeway in Houston, and there are 16-20 lane stretches of highway here in Atlanta so no problem. but I don't have any plans to go to Toronto in the near future.
While Georgia does (or did, before APL became the in thing) overhead lane diagram signs, see 24/59 on 24's brief sojourn into Georgia, it uses GADOT's font, I seem to think the 24/75 split sign in advance of it in Georgia just south of the Tennessee line was put there by TNDOT.
Been through there many, many times... But always in a truck. You really can't soak it all in when you're on a tight schedule and have to be somewhere on time.
Did you doctor is up? The sky views are amazing. I never enjoyed merging onto 24 after coming north on 59. Why? Traffic picks up substantially. Great presentation !
+JMV FRVA Thank you! what I did was put a polarizer filter on the camera as an experiment, just to see how it would turn out and I'm really happy with the results, will do more of it in the future.
+Freewayjim Here are my questions... :| 1) Have you ever been pulled over by a cop? 2) What kind of job you work for? (not trying to make you scared or anything...) 3) what is your favorite vehicle? (Weird question) and 4) Have you been in Canada at all?
That's a great ride in the mountains . I have been to Asheville but this is a pleasant drive . 13-17 San Francisco Bay Area #1: First Sighting video is blocked due to contains content from SME .
+679 “NFLweatherlover2014” Steelers The next videos are already finished, it doesn't work that way....I'll use the song if I have something that fits it.
I went to Chattanooga yesterday it was beautiful

Thanks for another great video Jim!
+heids418 Thanks, then you will like the Monteagle video next week if you like that stretch.
+Freewayjim I will keep an eye out for it, thanks for the heads up!

Tennessee is one of my favourite places to visit, an easy drive from Ontario. Keep up the good work!
+Chris Haycox Thank you very much!

+Jolly Dayz Thank you very much for the kind comment, glad you enjoyed it and you got that right on the music.

+centuryrox Thank you very much, yes I've ben to Lookout Mountain a few times in my life, definitely worth doing.
That scenery is spectacular-and it was the favorite part of my journey from Chicago to Savannah.
That is a LONG trip!
@@ILoveOldTWC it was fun
Awesome ride Jim, I love the mountain side appearing into view, then the drive along side and through it. The constant speed variances threw me for a loop, but it was still an awesome sweet ride..
Thanks, glad you liked it....had to keep pace with the music :)
Great ride! Traffic was pretty heavy (and vicious at the I-59 split)! Always waiting to see your take on the mountain!
+TheSolarcatcher Thank you and very true, I think you'll like next week's offering.
+Freewayjim Love the video :D
+Sam Smith Thank you
Freewayjim ur welcome
+Freewayjim ..? Uh, why is most of your videos cancelled?

interesting how the road goes into another state then back so fast. Looks like you picked a pleasant day to drive that one.
+Trans Canada Phil That is an oddity in the Interstate system for sure.
Thanks for another great ride, Jim. Perfect song for the ride.
+ca2fla Thank you!
I have very fond memories of taking trips this way from Nashville to my aunt's old house in Atlanta.
Very nice ride! Always good to see Tennessee as I have never been there before- and always good to see parts of a highway I have been on in Ohio- meaning I-75- very nice ride and a great song to go with the ride too!
+cjs121675 Thank you!
This lamb enjoyed this ride. But that 70 mph in GA, dropping to 60 in TN to change back in 2 miles seemed BIZARRE.
+Upeedina Lamb Thank you and yeah, that's not something you see very often.
After a second watch, it was a work zone
I was headbanging and air-guitarring by the end of that video.
Bello il viaggio, bella la musica scelta per questo tipo di percorso. Un filmato stupendo. Grazie.
Thank you for watching!
was just up there first week of march. stayed in Chattanooga beautiful city and area.
That's a scenic ride. I remember that big fireworks store in the median of I-24 from an earlier video. Hard to miss.
+European Roads Yes, that's a pretty unique feature, and it is a pleasant drive.
+Freewayjim How many years have you been driving everywhere for? Also do you settle at hotels? Me and my brother wonder about these questions

Great video. I was surprised to see how heavy the traffic was west of Chattanooga.
+Caleb Harper Thanks , yes, it was heavier than I expected too.
Very very very late to the party, but that is normal traffic at all hours of the day on 24 West, it's madness.
wonderful video, lol 7:28 to 7:32 threaded the needle between a swift transportation semi and a U.S express semi like a boss!!!
+James Wormsley LOL, Thank you! Trust me it looked more exciting on video than it was in person.
Freewayjim lol yea,very fun indeed!!
We live in a beautiful part of the country.😁 Excellent Soundtrack and Great visuals!😁
+rsdaddy141 Yes we do and thank you!
@@Freewayjim I live in the area as well. Have all my life. It's easy to take it for granted, but I try not to.
You did really squeeze the best out of both the soundtrack and the drive! The guitar solo here sounds better to me than in Lynyrd Skynyrd's version by the way.
+Roads of Europe (verreme) Thanks and I agree, the guitar solo was spot on.
So beautiful! You should trying on the Highway 401 here in Toronto .. if you can handle a 22-lane highway! But I love Tennessee!
+James Greenfield Thanks, 22 lane highway, yeah I've filmed the 26 lane Katy Freeway in Houston, and there are 16-20 lane stretches of highway here in Atlanta so no problem. but I don't have any plans to go to Toronto in the near future.

Nice video...Usually only see this area at night on our trip to Talladega!
Thanks
"Free Bird" is on the Grand Theft Auto San Andreas soundtrack and of course on one of the fictional radio stations in the game.

+Sam Smith 1) No. 2) That's personal, 3) The one I drive at the moment 4) Yes, but before I started filming.
I'm not sure how long ago, but Connecticut's I-395 now has mileage based exit numbers.
3:55 : Pawsome !!! great mountain views !!!
Thanks
"Free Bird" yes sir, what a classic.
Perfect song
Thank you!

+Javier Solis Thanks, and yes I know.
I am shocked you didn't run into any road construction work. It seems they're always doing that on Chattanooga area highways.
thank you for more tennesse
on October 30th 2015 Friday
I'm woke up at 8:42am in the morning
I was in nearby Dalton Georgia recently
My sympathies.
One of the finest rides in the South.
+luvcarsgay I'd agree, especially when you include Monteagle.
my hometown 💜
4:10 Damn, that's quite a lot of fatalities in one year :o
My stomp'n grounds! 👍
awesome video 5 stars
+acfhs2010 Thank you!
+Freewayjim You're welcome, I haven't been to Chattanooga but it sure looks like a beautiful place
9:30 From that perspective, it looks like I-24 is about to go through a fireworks store
I'm the only who heard Kingsman The Secret Service fight scene song in this video?
You cut it right before Monteagle
+Timothy Parry Jr Yes, I saved that for the next video.
I know the song at 0:33
I went there 3 weeks after you lol
Cool
Your welcome
5:52
A lot of bottlenecks. Traffic can be awful in Chattanooga.
I travel this road a lot contractor free bird the best
Play November rain by guns n' roses next video

Those left lane hoggers tho
Ridge Racer :)
so many slow left lane drivers...
+Carl Vanderlip It's maddening!
