    Such a good movie. Tom Ewell really matched Marilyn's performance. He was so good in it.

    I do believe Joe truly did love her however she did leave him for a reason. He was physically abusive toward her and wanted to control her. It irks me that people make it out to be that she left the perfect man. Also she did wear underwear for that scene however it was a bit transparent so she had to put on another pair.

    Marilyn's castmates on "there is no business like show business." Stated that they saw bruises on marilyn's body. The castmates and other people believed joe DiMaggio physically assaulted 😪 marilyn monroe. Poor marilyn 😥

    Joe and Marilyn rekindled a friendship during the last period of her life so they did talk again. And, of course, Joe arranged her funeral.

      I think he never fell out of love with her AND after the alleged fight over the film, I don.t think he ever forgave himself for allegedly hitting her. I don.t think she ever forgave him either for that. It.s so sad because they did love each other so much.

    Another observation: Ewell said that "Marilyn had one shot at happiness and she lost it", referring to her marriage to Joe DiMaggio. It is interesting how many people have that view. Joe undoubtedly loved her. I think they could have made it given a second chance. I feel sad that they never had that second chance. Yes, they kept in contact and reconciled somewhat at the end of Marilyn's life, but Marilyn herself DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS GOOD FOR HER. If she had got back with Joe, she would still be here~~~or have lived a much longer life. None of the "gang" she hung around with near the end of her life really cared about her!!! There was only Joe. He knew ALL of her.

    • @IsidoreZinoviev
      @IsidoreZinoviev 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      How can you say that. DiMaggio used to beat her up and didn't want her to continue her carrer.

      Two main reasons for their divorce were the skirt blowing scene from "Seven Year Itch" (Joe was LIVID about it) and also his physical abuse of her. After their divorce, there was a cooling off period, where DiMaggio admitted that he went into psychotherapy to quell his intense jealousy and proclivity towards physical violence. They reconnected years after his therapy, and discovered that they they still loved each other deeply, and the second part of their romance blossomed and thrived. He was the man she loved more than anyone else in her lifetime, but this time without the worry of physical abuse. They became a fabulous, loving couple once again. He was her protector. He tried to keep her far away from those that inflicted damage upon her, but was unsuccessful because everyone in her inner circle in Hollywood at the time was toxic to her. The doctors and the maid had cut her off from her friends to the point of extreme loneliness and a feeling of abandonment. There is also an article I read that she and Joe were to be remarried in the week following her death. The cake and food had been ordered from a caterer, and she had been fitted for a wedding dress. We'll never know the full truth about her demise, but there is more and more information coming out each and every day due to the Freedom of Information Act. It is almost a given now that she had an affair with RFK, but less proof about having had one with JFK, although they did apparently have a one night stand at Bing Crosby's house in 1962. Here is a final, sad and poignant ending to their love affair decades after her passing. As Joe lay perilously close to death, he was with his friend/attorney in his hospital room, and the gentleman said that his final words were, "...At least I'll get to see Marilyn (again)..."

    Loved Tom in this film but his recollections of the subway grate scene are preposterous.
    He claims that Monroe didn't like to wear underwear when it was hot. Did she tell him that between takes? Doubt it.
    The scene was filmed in mid September in NYC and, by all accounts, it was a cool evening. His implication that MM didn't know what was going to take place is absurd and insulting to her as a professional. He also claims that she never spoke a word to DiMaggio again. Odd, since Joe D escorted her to the premier, even though their divorce had been finalized.
    Most laughably, he said the film robbed her of her one chance at happiness. LMFAO! DiMaggio was a controlling, jealous retired jock who wanted Monroe to quit her career, which was red hot at that point, stay home and tend to his needs. As if.
    It's no secret that Ewell struggled with alcoholism and that it hurt his career, especially in later years. It's ironic that he would concoct this story, seeming to channel his character, Richard Sherman, who's vivid imagination and delusions were the basis of the film. Perhaps he actually believed it.

    Yes, Tom is wrong about them not ever speaking again, but this was indeed the straw that broke the camel's back for their marriage, his physical abuse towards her reached it's peak when she returned to their room after the shoot.
    With DiMaggio's Baseball career a few years behind him before meeting Marilyn, and later 3rd husband Arthur Miller's career having reached it's artistic peak just before their marriage, neither man had a chance not to be consumed and overshadowed by her life and career, even if they had both enjoyed their own success during the time.

      He was excellent as the bumbling, non descript, everyday man torn between his wife and a beautiful neighbor. His role was not to overpower her but to support her. The story was a stage play first that he played. He did it before MM. He won two awards for his portrayal.
