on the subject of defeating something stronger and scaling to that point, as a 9 year old child I decided to teach my mom's abusive boyfriend a lesson, this man was 6' 3", 250 lbs and well trained in martial arts, I knocked on his door and when he opened it, I smashed a baseball bat right up between the legs and continued striking him in that spot repeatedly for about 2 minutes. I definitely won that encounter, a few days later when he decided to teach me not to do that again, I found I had not in fact scaled to his strength level, and our second encounter did not go so well for me. Sorry folks but you do not just absorb the powers or power up when you defeat something stronger than yourself. Sometimes you just plan well or get lucky.

in the lore if I remember if kratos goes outside of Greece the blades power becomes weaker but still strong and to go back to its strength he has to find materials that are equivalent and a blacksmith to forge them into his blades
@@evanleone8434 Lore accurately, no. The only reason you have to get Chaos Flames in the games to upgrade them is because it’s a video game and they needed you to have a sense of progression. The Blades are just as strong as they were from when he left Greece in God of War 3 because he was cursed to always have them with him by Ares. All of his other Greek magic/weapons just completely disappeared the moment he stepped out of Greece.
Just wanna chime in because you brought it up breifly and say that my only complaint about these videos IS the fact that i know how well someone is gonna do based on where they appear in the video, id much rather you more or less randomize the order and keep us guessing. I disagree. Subvert expectations isn’t always the best thing. Structure might be boring, but it’s a lot better than randomness because randomness is a hit or miss.

The main thing that makes Dante and Vergil so hard to beat isn't their sheer strength, but their absurd speed and utterly broken regeneration. Prime examples of both include them briefly creating an open space in a rainstorm by cutting each individual raindrop with their sword swings (speed) and Vergil getting cut in half but regenerating so fast that he stays in one piece after the strike (think Life Fibers from Kill la Kill in terms of regen speed, if you're familiar).
Not to mention that they scale directly to people who are stronger than them, a power gap does not last very long to either of the sons of Sparda as they constantly one-up each other. And the scarier thing is, they are only half-demons... We have yet to truly see Sparda in action, we only have a lot of feats for him, but I'll be tripping if they don't make a DMC6 that lets us play as Sparda.
You have made a contradiction with Ryu. You said he doesn’t get hit in his games but also say bullets are an issue. Canonically, Ryu has dealt with multiple military forces that use not only guns but vehicular weaponry. He has been shown to dodge bullets and missiles in DOA which is in his verse, outrun an explosion in the first game, and take on Alexei who controls lightning.
@@kennesu5345even if we were to take out in-game mechanics it just doesn’t make sense why he would go that route. Speed-wise, if Ryu can react to lightning and teleportation (which Alexei does), then he is more than capable of matching Vergil. This isn’t accounting for his physical strength either which puts him above both brothers in DMC3.

And I don't recall any dialogue implying that Ryu was worried about facing a bunch of men with gun and needing help. Hell the guns aren't even the problem there, it's the multiple rockets being fired at you from offscreen. All you do is kill swaths and swaths of men with guns throughout the game, why would he suddenly be scared then.
@@NintendoSegaGuys I'm personally convinced that they were planning a AW2, but the bad sales changed their plans and they released the DLC ending. The story doesn't really even make much sense with the spider possessing Asura's daughter at the end of the game, then suddenly giving her up literally minutes later and suddenly being like "nah, I was just testing YOU Asura."
The notable demons they beat can definitely level or fuck up a city. Not being able to cut through the Kalina really just means he either wasn't trying to use its dimentional cleaving power or its something he has to actively do. Plus Lady is basically a shrine maiden, so there's probably some sort of protection going on there. Not to really say that is for sure what its like, the story just wouldnt be as cool of there wasn't tension/conflict the characters can't steanroll instantly
In the case of DMC ranged weapons, considering they are imbued with the wielder's demonic power, that is actually the case. Like, the reason Dante never needs to reload is because he's basically just shooting things with his demonic energy instead of regular bullets.

Eve is able to dodge and defeat enemies who use light based attacks and even fuses with Adam to become the elder naytiba,she does not stab him to become the elder naytiba

The problem with scaling characters like these is that a lot of hack and slash heroes don't have a ton of strength feats, they're more dexterity/skill based characters and because of their immense skill, they can take out enemies that are large building level and whatnot, but once you get to people with hacks, they have to be given anti hacks themselves like Dantes DT or ryus true dragon sword
Kratos, Bayonetta and Splatterhouse would like a word. The type of game isn’t relevant and it doesn’t create a problem. They either can do it or they can’t and if they can’t it doesn’t mean they can’t win. This is a “problem” scalers created for themselves because their rules for scaling are bafflingly stupid.
@rougarabid yeah, that's exactly my point. I was going after scalers there, these characters are some of my favorites in fiction but people grossly over estimate their abilities based on their anti hack stuff Also I said a lot, not all.

Yea I dunno what he's talking about with Ryu getting gunned down, bullets in NG3 serve to be little more than stun lock and death by a thousand cuts over the course of the level even on hardest difficulty. But if we go by game mechanics we could just say that Dante is weak because on DMD mode Dante takes massive damage from anything that hits.
Imo I think you downplayed Ryu by a great amount Ryu without even the Dragon Sword, easily defeated Bankotsubo in DOA2. He can go invisible, create afterimages during a vast amount of his moves, and even go against atleast planetary beings like Orochi and Susano'o in the Warriors Orochi games without TDS. Yes the Orochi games are canon because Koei Tecmo games all take place in the same universe for some reason. Ninja Gaiden, Nioh, and DOA are part of the same universe, and the seperate Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors universes merge together into a seperate parallel universe because of Orochi, which made the Warriors Orochi games. The DOA/Ninja Gaiden universe was also part of the Warriors Orochi universe, and the portrayal of Ryu in those games is the Ninja Gaiden 2 variation, meaning that the retcon of TDS being able to only kill evil wouldnt apply to it because that was in Ninja Gaiden 3. Even then, if you do still use the retcon, TDS being able to kill evil is very vague. With TDS, Ryu can still kill normal Tairon soldiers. Considering the fact that Vergil has by the time of DMC3 done much worse things than these soldiers, you can argue it could kill Vergil. Even if not, the nature of Devil Trigger would likely be evil enough for the TDS to work. Even that half demonic blood would probably allow Ryu to kill Vergil with TDS. This is all also considering the fact that Ryu can dodge lightning, overcome multiple dopplegangers. He even point blank survived wn explosion from the Archfiend, and got out of it unscathed. Ryu was lowballed very badly in this video. Mountain levels, or Planetary levels are still lowballs, considering the TDS killed Vigoor, who was stronger than Gurdu, the creator of everything. Even if Ryu doesnt scale with TDS, which is still arguable because of the fact he could survive the Archfiend's self destruction, the TDS itself scales to Universal, and Vergil is beyond screwed if hes hit by it even one time considering the fact it'll negate Vergil's near instant regeneration. Ryu can also match Vergils speeds, because even by the time of NG1, Ryu already has lightspeed level feats, unlike Vergil, who has none of these during DMC3. One last thing. As you say alot of times in the video, Ryu apparently would die to guns (which is false) and has to dodge everything in his games otherwise he would apparently be one shot. That only contradicts your own argument because that would mean Ryu had to dodge Alexei's lightning, which he would have to be way faster than the speed needed to dodge a bullet. Vergil doesnt have any speed feats like this during dmc3, so Ryu is faster Anyways, if I sounded like a nerdy powerscaler, then thats my bad, other than that, great video.

About Eve Dodging light based attacks =/= being faster than light. If someone points a flash light at your face and you turn your head away before they can turn the flashlight on, are you faster than light, or did you just anticipate they would do so and dodged it before hand? That's called precognition. Eve didnt become the Elder Naytiba by hitting him with blood edge, all blood edge does is absorb energy and convert it to beta and burst energy, it only charges her battery, it doesnt make her just as strong as whoever shes fighting and there's like no lore on Blood edge besides that it drains energy from its victims so idk where that assumption was gained from. Eve only becomes the Elder Naytiba in the ending where you agree to help Adam, since he's the last remaining "human" who still has his consciousness you agree to fuse together so that his human DNA can merge with an Andro Eidos creating a new human race. Eve hitting him with blood edge has nothing to do with her becoming the Elder Naytiba, in fact that's the ending where she DOESNT become the Elder Naytiba and you dont even have to fight him in the other one.
Shouldn’t Ryu be closer to Vergil since it’s basically a samurai versus a ninja? Vergil is half human half demon but Ryu is essentially the same. Half human half Fiend. Ryu can deflect bullets just like Vergil can, Ryu can use the Cicada surge wich is a teleport similar to Vergils teleport. They both wield legendary swords altough I haven’t seen the Dragon sword break like it did in Devil may cry 4. Ryu might not have regeneration but he’s got arguably something better, resurrection as show when he died against Doku and came back. Also I feel like his ninja tools and ninpo would give him the edge in overcoming many different bosses in Devil may cry 3 since each element has a weakness that does more damage depending on wich counter element you’re using (Agni & Rudra effective against the Cerberus boss)

Yeah, no. Rouga, as he does with every character and universe he goons to, blew her way out of proportion. Because Eve doesn't have any demonic energy or mystical/magical powers, she'd struggle to effectively hurt even the base-level demons in a way that they won't just get back up from at some point. Jack on the other hand, because his sword is anti-everything-evil, doesn't actually need to overcome the durability of a lot of the bosses, because the sword will basically just ignore it like it did with Aku.

The Ryu downplay is absurd. He is shown in cutscenes to be able to deal eith guns and even lightning. Dead or Alive is also canon for Ryu, and in it his constantly moving faster than bullets. Your hate of scalers is affecting your scaling honestly

@ anyone who knows Eve and played Stellar Blade: we know. Also she only gets the Tachyon Blade in Tachy Mode; it is Blood Edge that is her actual assigned weapon by Mother Sphere. I mean she severs Raven’s spine with Raven’s own chill blade but leaves it behind- could have taken that too.. the point is Eve’s sword is Blood Edge she has it in her hair at all times regardless and throughout her campaign
@@CadenManley06 no she doesn’t. Tachy is her commander who has her arm severed at the start of the game. In the lore we’re given, Tachy was so good she earned the Tachyon Blade and likely is how she got the name. As a boss she uses our combos and her own; against us but on her defeat, she gives Eve her memorystick hoping she can he redeemed in the eyes of their creator. Lily is able to reverse-engineer this and it unlocks Tachy Mode where Eve gains a wing and all Tachy’s variations for a set period of time essentially Stellar Blade’s version of the Devil Trigger. During this Eve’s Blood Edge takes on the appearance of her friend’s Tachyon Sword.
I think when Freya explained that Kratos' powers are tied to his world she meant that the powers of the Greek Pantheon that influenced Greece are gone, and so were anything relating Kratos to them besides his natural strength and immortality, since he himself is a god but alot of his stuff came from the pantheon, the blades are completely different since they were made jot from Greek magic but from flames caught from the deepest pits of tartarus, something we see in Ragnarok to be similar to Surtr's Primordial Flame This also dunks on scalers' belief on Kratos being so strong because if he is cut off from all the op stuff he has in the old games that means he is even weaker now in the new ones, all the stuff he has that makes him strong came from other people's stuff similar to the items he gets in the old games
Definitely a refreshing video given all the hyperbole and exaggerations involving most of these characters that you see tossed around. Would definitely be interested in being involved in discussion somehow. I actually do Teach IRL and my students do love these kinds of debates whenever they're brought up. Also, can definitely add a lot more in disfavor against Kratos. I've essentially seen a lot of the claims over the years and I've not been impressed.

3:07 Counterpoint, why doesn't Kratos just snap a chest open then during his gameplay, or push the stake in his chest that Ares plunged into his chest in GOW1 Didn't he grapple and chain a Hydra to a ship's mast in the prologue of the game? Or any character just cut through/destroy terrain? And some of those characters have a much higher base than the Sparda brothers, not all of them. 4:07 Vergil was weakened from fighting Dante on equal footing earlier, and besides, Lady is a misnomer to the fight, he did not want to kill Lady. He could have. Case in point, what was Jester then? He could've killed Jester if he was in top condition, Jester even admits as such.

I admit, Mimir was on some bullshit when he said that, and it goes double when we just bust through the ice anyway. I'm in no way saying every little thing in the Norse games could be justified by a throwaway line of minor showing, at all. So yes, the "consistency" sure as hell remains, just not in the flagrant violent showings of the Greek games.
@joshcooper467 I was more making a joke about how he is using anti feats to massively scale down these characters. And how sometimes to make a narrative that functions, you need to scale down these universal+ characters. It'd be way too much work to make the ice instead some weird frozen realm so the characters just aren't going to be able to break it for plot. See also sun wukong being like the strongest thing ever but being trapped by a mountain.
Nice video, but I have to say there are some explanations. (Of course, I respect that everyone has different cosmologies and the power scaling doesn't work) First of all, normal weapons touched by demons or half-demons in Devil May Cry become resistant as they imbue their power into those weapons, that's why Dante can defeat demons with a pool stick. The Blades of Chaos are made of primordial magic which is the power of creation of all realms, it's the same thing that the fire of Olympus or the tree of life were made of.
I don’t know what you’re arguing against with your first point. No that’s not true. The Blades of Chaos were made using the flames of Hades that is not Primordial Magic in fact a lot of magic made by gods were shown to be stronger than the magic of the primordials. Even if that was the case it wouldn’t explain how Kratos lost his magic as much of his magic comes from Primordials.

You say that Vergil not being able to cut Lady's bazooka is a showing that he needs demonic energy in order for Yamato to cut space/time. Then how do you explain the beginning of DMC 5, when Vergil first takes the Yamato back from Nero, and uses it to open a portal back to him and Dante's childhood home, despite him at this point in the story being so tired and damaged that he's basically falling apart? Not trying to say you're wrong or right, just genuinely curious.
I actually believe you downplayed Vergil's speed. In the game if you use quicksilver against Vergil, although it will briefly stop him, after a couple of hits he'll just speed blitz out of it and continue attacking you regardless if quicksilver is still in affect or not. Canonically quicksilver is stopping time, not slowing it. Which means Vergil when he actually tries, is able to move through frozen time. That would technically mean he has incalculable speed.
I thought I was the only one who remembered this. Let's also not forget that in DT Vergil on the third fight has an old version of judgement cut end where he moves so fast it looks like he vanished completely sending attacks your way and negates Quicksilver entirely.
@@lightmohamed5700 I always saw it as Dante can amplify it if he wants to, making it so slow it stops eventually. It's nerfed during gameplay so it's not as overpowered as in the cutscene.
It’s shown in Ragnarok when Kratos and boy are in between Musphlheim and Niffleheim the valkyries sent after them are shown FLYING not using a portal heavily implying that is how they travel between realms. Cory has said many times video games are not meant for scaling because inconsistencies will happen. But a characters high end feats are who they are. AKA Kratos struggles opening chests but can flip nine realms. You’re being dense for dense sake.

I didn't think to take into account how strong eve really is her blade itself is really overpowered but she got extremely lucky to get as far as she did if it wasn't for tachys sacrifice she would've died easily because her body was already damaged when she hit earth now kratos is definitely physically stronger but if she cuts him hundreds of times in a flash she'll quickly adapt and get his abilities like regeneration which is a big mega plus so her own blade is basically a living hax i never really thought about it like that plus if she faces kratos in her angelic form he has no chance she beyond light speed at that point even gods like hermes aint catching her
something i always see left out when discussing norse kratos....by the end of ragnorok he becomes a god, not a usurped position of a god, but the god he was truly destined to be. on top of that if gods get power via worship then it sits pretty well that kratos is mad powerful...
Kratos was worshiped in the original god of war trilogy. This is yet another retcon that the new Games made. They make it very clear in God of war two that Kratos is worshiped and adored by Sparta as the God of war. Kratos has also been a true god since the end of God of war one. Not a Usurped God, I don’t even know what you mean by that. Literally all of the gods in Norse and Greek mythology took the mantle from other gods before them. Titans took it from the primordial. Zeus took it from the Titans. In Norse mythology, Odin took the throne from his father Borr. Even in God of war Ragnarok Kratos still takes the role after dethroning Odin. So what you were saying in no way aligns with how the story plays out.

That belonged to ares. Whatever god he is now is seemingly an original position that he came into on his own. I do agree that the way they remade kratos isn't very faithful to og faithful, but I'm on the fence on him being significantly weaker then his younger self. I mean we can call the 9 realm flip hyperbole, but the same could be said for his atlas feat holding up the world and other planes of existence.
for some reason people have to play up there favorite characters. but for real. things can be cool with out being world ending powerful. sometimes that even makes them cooler.
I agree that Kratos is significantly weaker in the newer games Freya asked him about some of his old equipment and was shocked at how overpowered it sounded. Kratos had an amulet that could slow down or reverse time the Aesir and Vaneer don’t have anything on that level and that amulet isn’t even all that impressive compared to his actual weapons.

Ryu has dodged bullets and blocked them through all of his games and if Ryu would die from anything to one hit then Ninja Gaiden would be unplayable for amateurs and only pro level no damage runners could play also in dead or alive he stops a fiend from regenerating by stabbing him also he has the ability to throw black holes at people and summon wind and use it to slice people in half and summon a fire dragon and phoenixes including having the ability to freeze people and charge energy from his mind and channel it through any weapon he uses
A lot of this scaling stuff is also made worse by Death Battle. I see so many people act like an entertainment show made by humans is some infallible evidence on a vs battle. Even if i do think they get it right on the outcomes.
Temen ni gru may not even be concrete. It’s demon power so it’s hard to say how strong that is to judge Dante off of it. Plus Yamato splits universes and Dante survived being impaled by it. You gotta go in depth on DMC if you want to understand why he’s so insanely powerful.
No Yamato doesn’t split Universes. There’s only 1 universe in DMC. The human and Demon Worlds are one universe that were sealed away from each other. You can’t have a weapon that can destroy universes in a series with only one universe that’s never been destroyed. Dante surviving a stabbed from Yamato is no different than surviving a stab from any other weapon. Not sure why you think it does more damage.

The writers of God of War also like to make excuses, that they "slow down" the fights and they're actually happening much faster or something. Well if that's the case, maybe they should write a better way of portraying that.

Personally IMO, Kratos would wash the entire building….except when he gets to Vergil. I love Kratos and he is super powerful, but someone so fast like Vergil and almost as strong as Kratos would totally give him trouble and ask for payment.

on the subject of defeating something stronger and scaling to that point, as a 9 year old child I decided to teach my mom's abusive boyfriend a lesson, this man was 6' 3", 250 lbs and well trained in martial arts, I knocked on his door and when he opened it, I smashed a baseball bat right up between the legs and continued striking him in that spot repeatedly for about 2 minutes. I definitely won that encounter, a few days later when he decided to teach me not to do that again, I found I had not in fact scaled to his strength level, and our second encounter did not go so well for me. Sorry folks but you do not just absorb the powers or power up when you defeat something stronger than yourself. Sometimes you just plan well or get lucky.

in the lore if I remember if kratos goes outside of Greece the blades power becomes weaker but still strong and to go back to its strength he has to find materials that are equivalent and a blacksmith to forge them into his blades
@@evanleone8434 Lore accurately, no. The only reason you have to get Chaos Flames in the games to upgrade them is because it’s a video game and they needed you to have a sense of progression. The Blades are just as strong as they were from when he left Greece in God of War 3 because he was cursed to always have them with him by Ares. All of his other Greek magic/weapons just completely disappeared the moment he stepped out of Greece.

The main thing that makes Dante and Vergil so hard to beat isn't their sheer strength, but their absurd speed and utterly broken regeneration. Prime examples of both include them briefly creating an open space in a rainstorm by cutting each individual raindrop with their sword swings (speed) and Vergil getting cut in half but regenerating so fast that he stays in one piece after the strike (think Life Fibers from Kill la Kill in terms of regen speed, if you're familiar).
Not to mention that they scale directly to people who are stronger than them, a power gap does not last very long to either of the sons of Sparda as they constantly one-up each other. And the scarier thing is, they are only half-demons... We have yet to truly see Sparda in action, we only have a lot of feats for him, but I'll be tripping if they don't make a DMC6 that lets us play as Sparda.

You have made a contradiction with Ryu. You said he doesn’t get hit in his games but also say bullets are an issue. Canonically, Ryu has dealt with multiple military forces that use not only guns but vehicular weaponry. He has been shown to dodge bullets and missiles in DOA which is in his verse, outrun an explosion in the first game, and take on Alexei who controls lightning.

Speed-wise, if Ryu can react to lightning and teleportation (which Alexei does), then he is more than capable of matching Vergil. This isn’t accounting for his physical strength either which puts him above both brothers in DMC3.

And I don't recall any dialogue implying that Ryu was worried about facing a bunch of men with gun and needing help. Hell the guns aren't even the problem there, it's the multiple rockets being fired at you from offscreen. All you do is kill swaths and swaths of men with guns throughout the game, why would he suddenly be scared then.

The story doesn't really even make much sense with the spider possessing Asura's daughter at the end of the game, then suddenly giving her up literally minutes later and suddenly being like "nah, I was just testing YOU Asura."
The notable demons they beat can definitely level or fuck up a city. Not being able to cut through the Kalina really just means he either wasn't trying to use its dimentional cleaving power or its something he has to actively do. Plus Lady is basically a shrine maiden, so there's probably some sort of protection going on there. Not to really say that is for sure what its like, the story just wouldnt be as cool of there wasn't tension/conflict the characters can't steanroll instantly

In the case of DMC ranged weapons, considering they are imbued with the wielder's demonic power, that is actually the case. Like, the reason Dante never needs to reload is because he's basically just shooting things with his demonic energy instead of regular bullets.
That's not the case. In DMC weapons are infused with your energy. If you're actively powering the sniper then you can kill an elephant with your power

The problem with scaling characters like these is that a lot of hack and slash heroes don't have a ton of strength feats, they're more dexterity/skill based characters and because of their immense skill, they can take out enemies that are large building level and whatnot, but once you get to people with hacks, they have to be given anti hacks themselves like Dantes DT or ryus true dragon sword
Kratos, Bayonetta and Splatterhouse would like a word. The type of game isn’t relevant and it doesn’t create a problem. They either can do it or they can’t and if they can’t it doesn’t mean they can’t win. This is a “problem” scalers created for themselves because their rules for scaling are bafflingly stupid.

wonderful video, refreshing to see that people sees how blown out of proportions these characters scaling are, however, although i agree with the fact that samurai Jack can react to light. Isn't the case also with every other character? Also, Ryu does get barely damaged by bullets.
Yea I dunno what he's talking about with Ryu getting gunned down, bullets in NG3 serve to be little more than stun lock and death by a thousand cuts over the course of the level even on hardest difficulty.
But if we go by game mechanics we could just say that Dante is weak because on DMD mode Dante takes massive damage from anything that hits.
Imo I think you downplayed Ryu by a great amount
Ryu without even the Dragon Sword, easily defeated Bankotsubo in DOA2. He can go invisible, create afterimages during a vast amount of his moves, and even go against atleast planetary beings like Orochi and Susano'o in the Warriors Orochi games without TDS. Yes the Orochi games are canon because Koei Tecmo games all take place in the same universe for some reason. Ninja Gaiden, Nioh, and DOA are part of the same universe, and the seperate Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors universes merge together into a seperate parallel universe because of Orochi, which made the Warriors Orochi games. The DOA/Ninja Gaiden universe was also part of the Warriors Orochi universe, and the portrayal of Ryu in those games is the Ninja Gaiden 2 variation, meaning that the retcon of TDS being able to only kill evil wouldnt apply to it because that was in Ninja Gaiden 3. Even then, if you do still use the retcon, TDS being able to kill evil is very vague. With TDS, Ryu can still kill normal Tairon soldiers. Considering the fact that Vergil has by the time of DMC3 done much worse things than these soldiers, you can argue it could kill Vergil. Even if not, the nature of Devil Trigger would likely be evil enough for the TDS to work. Even that half demonic blood would probably allow Ryu to kill Vergil with TDS.
This is all also considering the fact that Ryu can dodge lightning, overcome multiple dopplegangers. He even point blank survived wn explosion from the Archfiend, and got out of it unscathed. Ryu was lowballed very badly in this video. Mountain levels, or Planetary levels are still lowballs, considering the TDS killed Vigoor, who was stronger than Gurdu, the creator of everything. Even if Ryu doesnt scale with TDS, which is still arguable because of the fact he could survive the Archfiend's self destruction, the TDS itself scales to Universal, and Vergil is beyond screwed if hes hit by it even one time considering the fact it'll negate Vergil's near instant regeneration. Ryu can also match Vergils speeds, because even by the time of NG1, Ryu already has lightspeed level feats, unlike Vergil, who has none of these during DMC3. One last thing. As you say alot of times in the video, Ryu apparently would die to guns (which is false) and has to dodge everything in his games otherwise he would apparently be one shot. That only contradicts your own argument because that would mean Ryu had to dodge Alexei's lightning, which he would have to be way faster than the speed needed to dodge a bullet. Vergil doesnt have any speed feats like this during dmc3, so Ryu is faster

Eve didnt become the Elder Naytiba by hitting him with blood edge, all blood edge does is absorb energy and convert it to beta and burst energy, it only charges her battery, it doesnt make her just as strong as whoever shes fighting and there's like no lore on Blood edge besides that it drains energy from its victims so idk where that assumption was gained from.
Eve only becomes the Elder Naytiba in the ending where you agree to help Adam, since he's the last remaining "human" who still has his consciousness you agree to fuse together so that his human DNA can merge with an Andro Eidos creating a new human race. Eve hitting him with blood edge has nothing to do with her becoming the Elder Naytiba, in fact that's the ending where she DOESNT become the Elder Naytiba and you dont even have to fight him in the other one.

Shouldn’t Ryu be closer to Vergil since it’s basically a samurai versus a ninja? Vergil is half human half demon but Ryu is essentially the same. Half human half Fiend. Ryu can deflect bullets just like Vergil can, Ryu can use the Cicada surge wich is a teleport similar to Vergils teleport. They both wield legendary swords altough I haven’t seen the Dragon sword break like it did in Devil may cry 4. Ryu might not have regeneration but he’s got arguably something better, resurrection as show when he died against Doku and came back. Also I feel like his ninja tools and ninpo would give him the edge in overcoming many different bosses in Devil may cry 3 since each element has a weakness that does more damage depending on wich counter element you’re using (Agni & Rudra effective against the Cerberus boss)
Ryu's not half fiend. He was cursed to become one in NG1, but he cured himself at the end of the game.

Yeah, no. Rouga, as he does with every character and universe he goons to, blew her way out of proportion. Because Eve doesn't have any demonic energy or mystical/magical powers, she'd struggle to effectively hurt even the base-level demons in a way that they won't just get back up from at some point. Jack on the other hand, because his sword is anti-everything-evil, doesn't actually need to overcome the durability of a lot of the bosses, because the sword will basically just ignore it like it did with Aku.

The Ryu downplay is absurd. He is shown in cutscenes to be able to deal eith guns and even lightning. Dead or Alive is also canon for Ryu, and in it his constantly moving faster than bullets.

@ anyone who knows Eve and played Stellar Blade: we know. Also she only gets the Tachyon Blade in Tachy Mode; it is Blood Edge that is her actual assigned weapon by Mother Sphere. I mean she severs Raven’s spine with Raven’s own chill blade but leaves it behind- could have taken that too.. the point is Eve’s sword is Blood Edge she has it in her hair at all times regardless and throughout her campaign

In the lore we’re given, Tachy was so good she earned the Tachyon Blade and likely is how she got the name. As a boss she uses our combos and her own; against us but on her defeat, she gives Eve her memorystick hoping she can he redeemed in the eyes of their creator. Lily is able to reverse-engineer this and it unlocks Tachy Mode where Eve gains a wing and all Tachy’s variations for a set period of time essentially Stellar Blade’s version of the Devil Trigger. During this Eve’s Blood Edge takes on the appearance of her friend’s Tachyon Sword.

I think when Freya explained that Kratos' powers are tied to his world she meant that the powers of the Greek Pantheon that influenced Greece are gone, and so were anything relating Kratos to them besides his natural strength and immortality, since he himself is a god but alot of his stuff came from the pantheon, the blades are completely different since they were made jot from Greek magic but from flames caught from the deepest pits of tartarus, something we see in Ragnarok to be similar to Surtr's Primordial Flame
This also dunks on scalers' belief on Kratos being so strong because if he is cut off from all the op stuff he has in the old games that means he is even weaker now in the new ones, all the stuff he has that makes him strong came from other people's stuff similar to the items he gets in the old games

Would definitely be interested in being involved in discussion somehow. I actually do Teach IRL and my students do love these kinds of debates whenever they're brought up.

I admit, Mimir was on some bullshit when he said that, and it goes double when we just bust through the ice anyway. I'm in no way saying every little thing in the Norse games could be justified by a throwaway line of minor showing, at all. So yes, the "consistency" sure as hell remains, just not in the flagrant violent showings of the Greek games.
@joshcooper467 I was more making a joke about how he is using anti feats to massively scale down these characters. And how sometimes to make a narrative that functions, you need to scale down these universal+ characters. It'd be way too much work to make the ice instead some weird frozen realm so the characters just aren't going to be able to break it for plot. See also sun wukong being like the strongest thing ever but being trapped by a mountain.

First of all, normal weapons touched by demons or half-demons in Devil May Cry become resistant as they imbue their power into those weapons, that's why Dante can defeat demons with a pool stick.
The Blades of Chaos are made of primordial magic which is the power of creation of all realms, it's the same thing that the fire of Olympus or the tree of life were made of.

No that’s not true. The Blades of Chaos were made using the flames of Hades that is not Primordial Magic in fact a lot of magic made by gods were shown to be stronger than the magic of the primordials. Even if that was the case it wouldn’t explain how Kratos lost his magic as much of his magic comes from Primordials.
@@rougarabid His first point was talking about the way demons and the Sparda twins imbue their own individual demon power into their weapons to reinforce them, Dante can do the same with a cut feature from DMC4 called Dreadnought where Dante hardens his skin with demon essence.

The primordials created everything, they are the primordial soup that created everything, it is the source, the magic of Olympus is a byproduct of that land, so it would be the by-byproduct, let's say that Kratos has his own battery in the sword.
Now the power that is a little confusing, the ability he has is not infinite damage (It's nonsense, we all know that already) his ability is that it is with primordial fire, he can damage everything. gods, mortals, souls, concepts, time, ect (It is better explained in the novel, but in itself it allows him to damage anything)

You say that Vergil not being able to cut Lady's bazooka is a showing that he needs demonic energy in order for Yamato to cut space/time. Then how do you explain the beginning of DMC 5, when Vergil first takes the Yamato back from Nero, and uses it to open a portal back to him and Dante's childhood home, despite him at this point in the story being so tired and damaged that he's basically falling apart? Not trying to say you're wrong or right, just genuinely curious.
I actually believe you downplayed Vergil's speed. In the game if you use quicksilver against Vergil, although it will briefly stop him, after a couple of hits he'll just speed blitz out of it and continue attacking you regardless if quicksilver is still in affect or not. Canonically quicksilver is stopping time, not slowing it. Which means Vergil when he actually tries, is able to move through frozen time. That would technically mean he has incalculable speed.
I thought I was the only one who remembered this. Let's also not forget that in DT Vergil on the third fight has an old version of judgement cut end where he moves so fast it looks like he vanished completely sending attacks your way and negates Quicksilver entirely.

@@lightmohamed5700 I always saw it as Dante can amplify it if he wants to, making it so slow it stops eventually. It's nerfed during gameplay so it's not as overpowered as in the cutscene.

It’s shown in Ragnarok when Kratos and boy are in between Musphlheim and Niffleheim the valkyries sent after them are shown FLYING not using a portal heavily implying that is how they travel between realms. Cory has said many times video games are not meant for scaling because inconsistencies will happen. But a characters high end feats are who they are. AKA Kratos struggles opening chests but can flip nine realms. You’re being dense for dense sake.

I didn't think to take into account how strong eve really is her blade itself is really overpowered but she got extremely lucky to get as far as she did if it wasn't for tachys sacrifice she would've died easily because her body was already damaged when she hit earth now kratos is definitely physically stronger but if she cuts him hundreds of times in a flash she'll quickly adapt and get his abilities like regeneration which is a big mega plus so her own blade is basically a living hax i never really thought about it like that plus if she faces kratos in her angelic form he has no chance she beyond light speed at that point even gods like hermes aint catching her

something i always see left out when discussing norse kratos....by the end of ragnorok he becomes a god, not a usurped position of a god, but the god he was truly destined to be. on top of that if gods get power via worship then it sits pretty well that kratos is mad powerful...
Kratos was worshiped in the original god of war trilogy. This is yet another retcon that the new Games made. They make it very clear in God of war two that Kratos is worshiped and adored by Sparta as the God of war. Kratos has also been a true god since the end of God of war one. Not a Usurped God, I don’t even know what you mean by that. Literally all of the gods in Norse and Greek mythology took the mantle from other gods before them. Titans took it from the primordial. Zeus took it from the Titans. In Norse mythology, Odin took the throne from his father Borr. Even in God of war Ragnarok Kratos still takes the role after dethroning Odin. So what you were saying in no way aligns with how the story plays out.

I do agree that the way they remade kratos isn't very faithful to og faithful, but I'm on the fence on him being significantly weaker then his younger self.
I mean we can call the 9 realm flip hyperbole, but the same could be said for his atlas feat holding up the world and other planes of existence.
for some reason people have to play up there favorite characters. but for real. things can be cool with out being world ending powerful. sometimes that even makes them cooler.
I agree that Kratos is significantly weaker in the newer games Freya asked him about some of his old equipment and was shocked at how overpowered it sounded. Kratos had an amulet that could slow down or reverse time the Aesir and Vaneer don’t have anything on that level and that amulet isn’t even all that impressive compared to his actual weapons.

Ryu has dodged bullets and blocked them through all of his games and if Ryu would die from anything to one hit then Ninja Gaiden would be unplayable for amateurs and only pro level no damage runners could play also in dead or alive he stops a fiend from regenerating by stabbing him also he has the ability to throw black holes at people and summon wind and use it to slice people in half and summon a fire dragon and phoenixes including having the ability to freeze people and charge energy from his mind and channel it through any weapon he uses
A lot of this scaling stuff is also made worse by Death Battle. I see so many people act like an entertainment show made by humans is some infallible evidence on a vs battle. Even if i do think they get it right on the outcomes.

Temen ni gru may not even be concrete. It’s demon power so it’s hard to say how strong that is to judge Dante off of it. Plus Yamato splits universes and Dante survived being impaled by it. You gotta go in depth on DMC if you want to understand why he’s so insanely powerful.
No Yamato doesn’t split Universes. There’s only 1 universe in DMC. The human and Demon Worlds are one universe that were sealed away from each other. You can’t have a weapon that can destroy universes in a series with only one universe that’s never been destroyed. Dante surviving a stabbed from Yamato is no different than surviving a stab from any other weapon. Not sure why you think it does more damage.
Kratos End Game yes. At GOW start Kratos will do everything and anything to survive then conquer the DMC world.

The writers of God of War also like to make excuses, that they "slow down" the fights and they're actually happening much faster or something.

Personally IMO, Kratos would wash the entire building….except when he gets to Vergil. I love Kratos and he is super powerful, but someone so fast like Vergil and almost as strong as Kratos would totally give him trouble and ask for payment.

Yeah he's taking the tree and the temple as literal when they are infact not. The temple is both inside of the 9 realm but also holds the 9 realms inside of itself. The tree inside of the temple is yggdrasil in a literal sense as in the tree is literally housed there and all of the realms are inside of it.
