As the game progresses, James'appearance becomes more tired and his clothes dirty. The dark circles under his eyes are a nice touch for this scene.
I’m just glad they make it a bit more clear this time around what he does. In the original he smothers her with the pillow she’s laying on but as soon as he reaches for it there’s so much noise and cutting everywhere you can barely even tell what he did and it doesn’t help that they had originally had audio in of her muffled screaming to help establish whats going on and cut it out last minute.

@@Sketcz they have a few brief cuts to the pillow over her head in the original but they smother it in so much blur and filters you can barely tell. I have no idea why they deleted the scream they originally had in but it was definitely a mistake
@TeryonTheHuman I disagree. The screams they recorded in the original sounded bad, not like someone screaming for their life at all. I agree the visuals should have been more clear, but unless they could re-record the scream (which may not have been possible that late in development, or the actor might not have been available) then removing it was a good call.
@@ahumanbeingfromtheearth1502 that sounded like a genuine scream for ones life in the original so idk what youre talking about. Upon further research they actually cut it due to them being scared the game would get censored again like the first one.
But I do know, is bloober team seemed to agree as atleast crying and struggling is heard this time around so that’s all that matters to me.

i don't know about the other person but for me this showed up on recommended, i wasn't even looking for it. i went in here to say this exact same thing. luckily i played the game years go but this title is crazy. if i hadn't played it and wanted to i'd be kinda pissed ngl. i know this game is old but some people are probably just hearing about it now with the remake, and the person who uploaded the video knows what they're doing with the title. it's being a dick on purpose for views, which also rubs me the wrong way. but hey everyone can do whatever they want. just kinda sucks

I played the original back in the day, and for 20 years I thought she died naturally in the hospital and in the video scene his arm moving around is him going to embrace his dying / dead wife one final time. One last hug and kiss on the forehead before she dies. For the last 20 years I honestly didn't realise he murdered her - finally, FINALLY, they make this obvious. I actually never understood what everyone raved about when playing the original. A guy's wife got sick and died, and he's really sad - I genuinely never made the murder connection, or James feeling guilty. He never even admits to murdering her. This sequel did the right thing - the kid then asking, and he finally admits it: "I killed her"
It's taken me two decades to get here. Unbelievable!

James litterally says "I killed her" in the original, so unless you couldn't speak English back then, I call BS.

I was I think 18 at the time, a fluent English speaker, but the video didn't show shit. I literally did not parse anything from it, other than him reaching in for a hug maybe. It was zoomed and cropped. And his "I killed her" I assumed to be metaphor, or him pulling life support. Or feeling guilt at not emotionally supporting her. Look man, I was not big into subtext or narrative subtlety. If they didn't explicitly show pillow on face, and the word murder being used, then I was just going to glaze over and go back to Counter Strike or Metal Gear Solid 2, or whatever else I played back then. Let's compare MGS2, since it was on PS2 too, and a similar time. There was no subtlety to that - Kojima painstakingly hammered every narrative beat across like a child hitting a nail - and that was about the level of nuance I expected from games.

I feel like the whole game is a physical representation of post trauma disassociation.
There should be an option on TH-cam to report videos whose titles contain major spoilers. It doesn't matter how old a videogame, film or novel is to make a spoiler. I don't know who was the enlightened person who invented this justification, but the narrative of entertainment works is not knowledge that is studied in schools like world history. It seems absurd to point this out, but unfortunately some people have not yet realised this.

This shit came up in my recommended without looking for it specifically so what's your response? There's plenty of people trying out the Silent Hill series for the first time due to the remake so this game being 20 years ago isn't a good reason. It's just being courteous and respectful of other people's experience.
