You may be the only channel that compares these two devices. Thank you!
I like that we now have a new measure of resolution: Pens Per Screen. :)
Excellent review, informative and yet concise..
I initially bought the Surface Pro 6 as a mobile device to do some light duty 3d work in Blender but realized that the integrated video wasn't able to run the Eevee real-time renderer so I had to return it and spent a bit more (well, quite a bit more) and got the Surface Book 2 13.5 with an i7, 8 GB , 256 SSD and 1050 graphics. All I can say is WOW. Love the machine and the convenience of detaching the slate when needed and how well the Surface Pen works with the whole machine. Definitely a winner and a keeper. Great review, by the way.
See you're working very hard, as usual making it look easy! 😎
Thanks Teoh!
Brilliant video! Made the differences clear and understandable, keep it up!
incredible review, thank you!
What a rare sight seeing a Singaporean reviewer! Keep up the great contents!
thank you so muchhhhhh for the super helpful review! 1000 thanks
Thank you for the review
Please we will need the surface book 2 & 3 compared.. thanks
Great comparison. I believe Karabiner will allow you to switch that menu key to a control key, plus any other changes to the keyboard you want to make.
lovely content
i use the surface book 2 for art when i want something a little more relaxed and convenient than sitting at the desk with my proper display monitor. i sometimes have issues with the resolution of the screen being too high and making it so the UI for programs i use is very very small, which is tough if i want to work with the screen reversed since i cant use shortcuts and would have to navigate the UI for commands. making the screen resolution lower tends to look strange or make the UI elements too big for the small screen. i also had issues getting pressure sensitivity to work in some programs.
the main issue with using this laptop for drawing/digital painting/etc is that you have to choose between:
-having the keyboard accessible, makes it so the screen is awkwardly far or you are hunched over the screen and keyboard, the hinge does not always hold steady
or
-not having the keyboard accessible, much more comfortable drawing position but with the resolution making the UI so small it is much tougher to work with
definitely convenient and great for note taking, for work as a drawing tablet its not the best but its functional
I really need this particular insight, thank you so much for writing this
thank you so much this is really helpful
I got a bluetooth keyboard that I use when I put the screen backwards. But I think Microsoft really should have a bluetooth built-in for their Surface Book keyboard and Type Covers. They used to have a bluetooth adapter for Type Covers but then they discontinued that capability from Type Cover 4 onwards, even though it's so useful :(
From all the video that i watch about Microsoft laptop, only your video that i found useful because you explain very detail specially about the keyboard.
Thank you,now i know which laptop i can buy
Nice review. Hope you can make comparison review between microsoft surface book 3 vs latest macbook pro later, as a designer :-)
Why has this great review got so less views.
That's weird. I had this video as unlisted. How did you even find this video?
@@teohyc I'm not sure. I was going through your playlist of tech reviews and i stumbled upon this particular video. Any reason for making it private?
I was suprised to see it also, being done 2 weeks ago and it never came up on my homepage before (I watch all your videos ☺). Really great review as I am currently thinking of buying a new laptop.
😂😂🤣
Great review, Parka! I bought the Surface 3 laptop - 15", AMD Ryzen7 processor, 16gb RAM, 3:2 aspect ratio, AMD Radeon Vega 9 graphics. I love it! I am thinking of trying an external monitor for photo editing etc.
Hi! Just curious, how is it multitasking on the Surface 3 laptop? For example, if you're handling large image files and also having other applications open & running to switch between? Do you also experience redraw like Parka shows? I use Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign heavily, being a graphic designer, and I'm struggling to decide whether to take the plunge and go with a Surface device. Anyone else reading this who could share their experience, I'd be grateful! Thanks in advance!
@@marissar1615 Hi Marissa. I don't think I will be of much help as I don't work on a professional level. I use Paintshop Pro 2020 Ultimate which I love and I haven't had any issues with going back and forth between applications. I hope someone else can give you a more suitable answer, sorry.
The price in Malaysia for now is much cheaper. For the Surface Book 2 13.5 inch, i7, gtx1050, 8gb ram, 256gb cost about RM6699 which is about SGD 2213 or in USD, USD 1605.
i didnt know microsoft had a singapore division. how many countries are they based in
*QUESTION FOR YOU TEOH ...*
What's the brand name and model of the External Monitor
that you're using to connect to these Surface devices?
Thanks.
BenQ SW2700PT. That's my main monitor
@@teohyc Thank you :) Great review as always.
Hi!About your water brush video that you upload 8 months ago,can you put acrylic to it rather than water colour? Please please reply🤔
No acrylic
Teoh , what would you choose between surface or iPad Pro? I would like to try some digital drawing and also have usual access to spreadsheets, word processor etc.... does procreate work on surface?
If you already have a computer, iPad is a better choice. Procreate only works on iPad
I’m a digital art student trying to decide between the surface book 3 and surface pro 7. This year I will be focused on video editing, shooting and 2d and 3d animation. It will also be used for motion graphics and photo editing. Which is the better buy? Is it art to get the GPU? I don’t want to have to replace it anytime soon I want to use it after college for work!
With SP7, you'll need to consider buying an external monitor and keyboard. The 12.3-inch display is kinda small to work on for long periods of time. The SB3 base model with i5 processor only has integrated graphics. If you have the budget, I recommend getting the next model with i7 which has dedicated graphics and 16GB RAM total - these are better specs to provide a smoother video editing and content creation workflow.
Teoh Yi Chie thankyou!
Can you run 3Ds MAX & AUTOCAD with big files on Surface book 2 and how does it work? Like very smooth , no lag , no loading time !, what about surface book 3 ? , because i saw some videos & they were saying that it doesn’t have a high-voltage CPU just have 15 W so it won’t work good etc. please clear my doubts.
I don’t use those apps so I can’t say much. But they should work. The new graphics card in SB3 should be good for medium complexity scenes.
Would you buy a surface book 2 in 2020? Or would you wait for Surface Book 3? Thanks!
I’ll wait
I had the EXACT SAME question!
I am a content creator and I'm interested in improving my computer/tablet gear. I want the Surface Book 2 right now. But I feel like I don't want to regret getting it if the Surface Book 3 comes out soon!
@@teohyc Thank you for the advice :)
Do you think i should buy surface pro7 or surface book 2🤔
Depends on whether you need the keyboard, bigger screen and graphics.
@@teohyc Im not sure... but which has microphone
And do they have cameras?
@@doge1396 They both have microphone but the audio quality is lousy since these are really just for the webcam, for simple video call purposes.
@@teohyc but does the book 2 have windows hello? If its a stuped question sorry. Im 11 thats why
@@doge1396 Yes
There is ZERO logic behind owning the 1st gen Surface Laptop. Too slow and zero future-proof features.
📝
What about the pen's pressure sensitivity?
it may depend on the program, i was unable to get it working on Paint Tool Sai or Paint Tool Sai 2 but i do have it working on Clip Studio Paint and FireAlpaca
@@junokeyesvalentine9150 ah then for the specific programs it works on (e.g. csp), do you rhink its comparable to wacom pen's sensitivity? If you tried it before
Review the hp zbook x2! this isn't the first time. this is a professional laptop tablet for artists. and the Surfface is not for sale in my country.
Theres a design flaw with surface laptop if it has a touch screen, it renders the screen useless with that design. It could be made non touch screen like conventional ultrabook to compete with MBAir. Or redesign it as an ultrabook that turn to a tablet like the new Laptop Studio but in a thin body.
The touchscreen is just an additional feature that you can choose not to use.
Btw im a surface line up fan😁
17:11 This video in a nutshell
As a student.. which one should I get? (college student)
If you don’t see yourself drawing or writing, laptop is better with more battery life
@@teohyc I honestly think I would be using one of those features.. as I often write and would want to write digitally to some apps like onenote or notion... would you still reccomend it for a student? (a surface book, was thinking an SB3)
@@ntnlaaron770 Main selling point of the SB3 is actually the model that comes with graphics card, and you can get it in 15-inch. It does take notes really well but you're looking at just 2-3 hours with the tablet alone unless you want to bring the keyboard with your all the time, which will be heavy. Battery life is the downside. You can get maybe 5-6 hours battery life on the SB3 without connecting to a power source.
If you are not getting the 15-inch or graphics card model, I may recommend the Surface Pro 7. Main selling point here is it has much longer battery life. You have to get your own keyboard or keyboard case though. I find the screen small for the type of work I do (edit photos, videos, graphic design) but it can be connected to a larger external monitor. For taking notes, 12.3-inch is big enough.
Teoh Yi Chie oh i see.. I were thinking of getting the 13 inch one with gtx 1650.. as the difference in price between that and the surface pro 7 with 256gb SSD and keyboard isnt too far here..
@@ntnlaaron770 My review is just a short term review. You may want to check out reviews on Reddit and see if you can find more long term reviews, particularly from students who have to bring their laptops around. Portability would be the main concern here.
Book is better
Bet you a like you won’t pin this
lol there's no reason so
