As a kid in the 90’s I always randomly heard Blitzkrieg Bop on the radio but never knew who sang it. It wasn’t until 2002 I got my first Ramones cd (Ramones Mania) at a thrift store for $5 because I saw it had Blitzkrieg Bop on it. I listened to every song and became completely obsessed with the band. I bought every cd, learned every song on guitar and started dressing like them, mainly Johnny because he was my idol. After a few months of becoming a super fan I remember trying to save up money so I could see them live. I don’t remember how I found out but when I learned that Joey and Dee had already passed I was devastated, but I kept my head up in hopes of still meeting Johnny some day. When the news broke that he passed in 2004 it was like a punch to the heart, I cried so hard that day 😭
Hello again Tabby girl ....Loving your posts. .and you my dear friend can mind meld me anytime, we certainly have a great deal in common, ,,for some reason the Ramones always played on my Birthday 12/30 in NYC at the Ritz, now known as Webster Hall ,What a Great club band ,seen so many Big name bands at a club in Brooklyn L'Amour ,before they were big ..Metallica too many to name. .yup led a charmed life Thank God
That is a good point. Johnny proved that it isn't virtuosity that makes you good, it is good songs. He wasn't the best guitar player in the world..but he was the best at what he did. He 'served the song' better than just about any guitar player I can think of. Also, to add on what you said... He showed young kids that you don't have to be intimidated by the guitar or any other musican instrument. Once you have it in your hands, magic can happen if the songs are there. He might not have been the best technical players, but he was definitely one of, if not the most important guitar players to ever live.

They were right about Johnny hanging on for this show to happen before he slipped away. It is pretty crazy that he died 2 days after this show. Not even 48 hours after. Yet he was as tough as nails and was doing phone interviews right before show time. Dude was THE man.
My babysitter dragged me to my first Ramones show in 1979 at keene st college iI was 10. I had the privilege to meet Johnny back in early 90's in Northeast. He was sooo kind. I also met CJ who was my age and new. Monty Melnick was very cool too. I went back stage several times those years. not once was I ever mistreated or that kind of "groupie" thing.i was treated like I was a lil sister. very protected. I regret that in those 2 tours I never got to meet Joey. I know now having been a nurse for 15 yrs. I was a young mother. Children are infectious and Joey was already sick. I get that. My second backstage visit I showed up with a tattoo on my upper thigh (93). I only did it thinking long and hard. Its permanent. RAMONES or something only ramones fans would know. simple Greco-Roman tat...'no melnicks" and yes 20 yrs later at the lake someone often approaches me cuz of the tat and says "hey, ur a Ramones fan". the guy who took me backstage was always VINCENT MANCINI a really tall tough guy. he would call me and tell me dates and addresses n lodging, cuz a couple times johnny said "she drank HOW many?" then it was comped and next time I was checking coats or getting their take outs. Mancini and i had some fun as my small 5 ft frame and he would just carry me round like a ragdoll on his shoulders. and I hope he wasn't one listed in 9/11. he was going for his firefighting cert at the time. Johnny and Mancini got such a kick outa that tat and Melnick blushed like a teen boy. I learned so much those summers. I was in paralegal school. each member had a different political view, so I listened and learned. Johnny was devoutly conservative and we talked, as too was my father. Marky, a libertarian, and then Joey a democrat. I got REEMED with info and loved every minute of it. Those summers I hold dear to my heart. Johnny especially shaped my political views. Johnny was always proper. I sighed when dee dee died from an OD. I mourned when Joey passed from Luekemia. I was inconsolable when John Cummings passed from prostate cancer. I felt like I lost a good mentor. I hold dear to me those 2 summers. That I learned so much from guys 18 yrs my senior. that I was treated so kindly and respectfully especially by Johnny. i'll never forget it.
by all means, if you're gonna get a tat, get one you love. wear it proud. as Charlie Daniels said, "you can be loud here and be proud" if I ever get one, it'll be the 'stamp' emblem on the front of 'THEWHO LIVE AT LEEDS'.on my left forearm , at an angle like the album angle. when the deluxe edition came out which has the song 'tattoo', I really leaned towards getting it.
Listening to these other vocalist's doing Ramones songs, you realize what a musical instrument Joey's voice was and how well it projected. Ozzie is another good example.
Johnny was always a person I've looked up to, I liked every last detail about him and he's the main reason I had picked up guitar and play the way I do, I wish I could've had the chance to shake his hand and tell him thank you for everything he has done. With that being said, thank you Johnny. And thank you Ramones.
Totally. On top of the musical side of Johnny Ramone, there are a lot of other things about him to respect. The dude totally stuck to his believes and did not budge. If you are a secure person and have convictions that you stand by, that is something to be respected. The dude did not cave for anything or anyone. ..It didn't hurt that he was one of the coolest dudes ever too. hehe.
@@michaelr.4878 There's a fine line between sticking to your beliefs and being stubborn and hard-headed. Richie was the drummer, songwriter and even sang songs for the LP's Too Tough To Die, Animal Boy and Halfway to Sanity. He wrote "Somebody Put Something In My Drink", for the band and other tunes. He also sang backup vocals and did live vocals. Richie started with the band during the Subterranean Jungle tour, when Marc/Marky was out of the band.
Also, I don't get teary-eyed often, but I did seeing CJ and Eddie speak at Johnny's funeral. This band is one of the reasons I bought a guitar and I feel bad for anyone who doesn't "get" The Ramones. Fucking legends.
CJ played in my hometown in Sweden, after the show he stayed and met all the fans who came to the show. I met him and He is one nicest and coolest musicans I ever met :)

I love that the Chili Peppers didn't feel the need to needlessly complicate the Ramones songs that they picked. Just played with heart, love, and respect. Chad could've played some damned 8th notes on the high hat though. :-)
I agree. They did justice to the songs...and other than the drumming, they did their best to play the songs as they were intended to be played. Flea even used a pick! hehe.
English music journalist Charles Shaar Murray once said that it was impossible not to fall in love with The Ramones if you fell in love with Rock`n`Roll for the right reasons.
15:32 Dee Dee did not write Beat on the Brat. That was Joey! It was the song title that made me buy their first album. Long story. But thank you to Dee Dee for other great songs that also got me through adolescence back in the 80's! He is truly the impersonation of punk. Wish he was still here!

'My Brain is Hanging Upside Down (Bonzo Goes to Bitburg)' is one of the Ramones best 'later' songs. I'd add 'Somebody Put Something in My Drink' and 'Pet Sematary' up there too.
I love the Ramones and want to thank all the bands that played tribute (love you too). I especially love Joan Jett. But this is about John. I know a lot of artsy music types and I fancy myself of that ilk. I am grateful to John for organizing this shit into something great! We need that energy.
I was at this show. It was an amazing night of music and all of the musicians were just hanging out with the crowd. This was three days before Johnny died. Rob Zombie got him on the phone as no one new he was too sick to show up.
1:09:44 I always thought so too, Johnny. The Ramones, Sex Pistols, and The Clash will ALWAYS be THE big three in my book. And I can say that I saw all 3 play live and they changed my life! But The Ramones remain my all time favorite.
@@Stephen-lt1tp Iggy was the man 🤘👍 before US punk got it's title for sure it's a fact. 🤘🤘🤘🤘I mean you just have to watch Dead Boys 1977 CBGB gig it's got Stooges influence written all over it.
In allot of interviews of people talking about The Ramones I hear them say they were funny to watch. Some even say they were like a joke band. From the first time I saw them I was blown clear away and thought they were the greatest band ever. I never ever get the joke about this band.
I think it was because they were so serious as performers but their lyrics were so extreme that it was incredibly funny. Loudmouth, beat on the brat, I don't wanna x, etc. They cathartically say what we all want to say but never do so that becomes funny. I mean, here comes a band that says it all unabashedly and seriously. The juxtaposition is quite funny.
And I think in the beginning they were a bit awkward with the starts and stops on the songs, arguments on what to play next, and Joey falling over his own feet... I wish I saw it! Sounds hilarious (unintentionally).
Martini Chip Yeah, if you see the very very first videos of them they honestly seem pretty ridiculous. (I'm pretty sure there's one of them doing "Loudmouth" that seems pretty weak.) They improved A LOT in a very short time, though. They definitely became one of the fiercest live bands you'd ever see. I saw them a bunch of times while Dee Dee was still in the band and they were AWESOME.
Flea played several wrong notes in She's the one. For a worldwide known bassist like him.. That's pretty fucked up. Ramones' songs are the easiest to learn.
It looks like they have redone the vocal in a studio, probably the whole set was tweaked in a studio for the cd / LP of this show, watch Antony's lips on the vocals it's not quite in sink.
Semua manusia pasti akan mati, begitu juga Jhonny Ramone,,tapi musik dan karya-karya nya tidak akan pernah mati,,salam dari saya from Indonesian,,saya sangat suka dgn lagu" Ramones..keep the rock & roll..hey ho let's go..✊🙏
I really wish there could be a documental based of Joey Ramone's life and career. There is just one that only lasts 13 minutes. But there is not a whole movie or a documental about him. Anyway I love Johnny Ramone too. This is really a doc based on Ramones'life than Johnny. It's cool!! and Linda is taking care of his legacy and I am glad about that actually.
Dear God, I had an eargasm at 50:25. LOOK AT EVERYONE ON THAT FUCKING STAGE! The bit about Johnny and the groceries was hilarious too. Thank you for uploading this!
I remember seeing in one documentary that Johnny hated him, and he was never accepted by Johnny. They mention in the beginning that Johnny orchestrated this whole tribute (BIG surprise there). That could be the reason. Maybe Johnny just wanted to flip off Richie once more, a fucked up thing to do. Too bad, Richie did great in Too Tough to Die and Animal Boy
I saw the Ramones in Chicago in about 1979, fantastic show, not even that big of a crowd. Funny watching Johnny gritting his teeth and kicking stuff off the stage back into the audience.
You had to see The Ramones live. The records don't come close to the raw power of a live Ramones gig. Thank fuck I made the effort to go see them a whole bunch of times back in the day.
yje mixed emotions i have watching this under my belt i saw 3 live shows in vancouver have 40 albums studio and bootleg and iys been 25 years since i last saw them...i first bought Mania just because it looked hilarious ...little did i know that would change my entire ideas about music....anyhow i miss these guys and i have often said now being 52 that the older i get the more i understand johnny ramone i wished there was a n afterlife to meet them
I'd give this tribute a bold two-thumbs up! I especially liked the creative talent of "The Red-Hot Chili Peppers" making the Ramones mantras ever better!
por amar muito Ramones todas os tributos são bem-vindo, e por amar Joey Ramone sinto que nenhuma voz consegue harmonizar o restante da banda , como ele fazia ele era alma e corpo da banda❤ILOVE JOEY RAMONES ❤
It's so weird, but almost nobody can do a very good Ramones cover. The Ramones just sounded so unique, that even great bands just can't do a good cover IMHO. I mean, the RHCP covers in this video are DREADFUL. Even Metallica, who I LOVE, don't sound good playing Ramones' covers to me.
I once watched the video.,but they ALL want to be better with their voices and dance moves! GF-NYC..., YES YOU ARE RIGHT..., no one can match The Ramones.
It is a tribute they are not trying to exactly clone the sound of the Ramones, just to show their influence. For an example of the same principle in reverse listen to 'Acid Eaters', an album of the Ramones doing covers in tribute of bands that influenced them. Most of the Ramones covers sound weak compared to the originals as well. I think this principle is constant among 'tribute' and 'cover' albums. Looking at your profile pic I see you are a Misfits fan. Project 1950 from the Misfits is another example of an all tribute/cover album that sounds pretty weak.
Hate me if you want, but I didn't know Johnny died when clicking on this, I was hoping it would be a documentary on his life, and what made him such a tough miserable asshole (which is why I love him) ..But anyways RIP Johnny
My first Ramones show was in '83 when I was about 13. My MIND WAS BLOWN. Once Dee Dee handed me a pick from the stage. I still have it, in a frame with a nice B&W Ramones photo. Once Dee Dee left, I stopped going to see them. I couldn't stand them with that loser CJ on bass. Later I met Dee Dee in NYC and had a really nice chat with him. He was SO friendly to me. Coolest Rock Star ever. Well, Joey was too. :)
Apdm I agree. he played peace keeper and if it weren't for that and the youthful energy he brought to the band, they might have self destructed after dee dee left rather than carrying on for the last 7 years...and those last 7 years were very important because they were able to play and inspire the next generation of 90s kids. wish I was 8 or 9 years older (I'm 29) so that I could have seen them live. RIP boys.
Yes like many americans he was politically illiterate but that's not a reason to mock the guy, he did a few good songs....he was also a scumbag from a humanist perspective, you forgot to mention that lol
"my ass. Democrats are OK with late-term abortions and war whenever “their guy” is in office. FFS, the DNC is trying to put forth an Alzheimer’s patient for President" Hey pssst. I'm no us citizen ok ? It's gonna blow your mind but Usa is just a "small" country and i'm talking about the world regarding ethic/moral and politics in general. I know that true leftism (not liberalism you dumb dumb) will always take care of the modest and the less rich working people. That's a basic i know about, because of free health care, free education, justice for all (and not justice only for who pays millions for a good lawyer etc...). "Finally, before you accuse me of being a Trump fan (as if that could shut down an argument), realize I’m not." Oh please tell me who is your political role model it's gonna be rich :) "FFS, the DNC is trying to put forth an Alzheimer’s patient for President" Trump is more dangerous than that tho, please tell me what sucks regarding this scumbag, prove it to me you don't like him.

Daniel Rey , CJ & Marky hold it down like kings , perfect , tight , tough & powerful
now you can compare how powerful Jeffrey Ross Hyman voice was .
Thanks for uploading this - awesome. Caught them in 1988, 1990, 1992, and 1995. Johnny was his own man and thank god for that....
'My Brain is Hanging Upside Down (Bonzo Goes to Bitburg)' is one of the Ramones best 'later' songs. I'd add 'Somebody Put Something in My Drink' and 'Pet Sematary' up there too.
This is amazing. Thank you.
Es un tesoro!!! Gracias por subirlo!!!!
Daniel Rey's guitar tone sounds like God!
I love the Ramones and want to thank all the bands that played tribute (love you too).
I especially love Joan Jett. But this is about John. I know a lot of artsy music types and I fancy myself of that ilk. I am grateful to John for organizing this shit into something great! We need that energy.
JJ sounds just the same amazingly so
thank you Rob Zombie for putting this together
He once stated that when he heard the Ramones the first time, he knew every idiot could make music 😂 in a positive way of course
Johnny did it, rob only was the presenter
:'| Goodbye Johnny you'll always be my favorite person and guitarist ever..
I was at this show. It was an amazing night of music and all of the musicians were just hanging out with the crowd. This was three days before Johnny died. Rob Zombie got him on the phone as no one new he was too sick to show up.
30:19 Johnny and Joe Strummer . RIP
+Héber Bensi
and Dee Dee
Héber Bensi That’s not Joe, is Arturo Vega
Flasheaste
Johnny’s hard focus kept the Ramones together
1:09:44 I always thought so too, Johnny. The Ramones, Sex Pistols, and The Clash will ALWAYS be THE big three in my book. And I can say that I saw all 3 play live and they changed my life! But The Ramones remain my all time favorite.
Those are definitely the big 3, but The Stooges created it
New York Dolls could be credited too
@@omengaming9391 but they're pretty much around these days
How about blink 182?
I saw there first videos and I still heard Genius regardless of their antics and arguments. These dudes were before their time.
The genius was there, no doubt. Well, they remain my favorite band of all time. They changed my life. Those shows were mind-blowing.
RHCP really took this serious, they sound better here than in their own shows
Lol they were horrible here
Flea played several wrong notes in She's the one.
@@harryhepworth312 Yeah, must be that, they never sound that good live
❤❤
How could say that was their best song? They only had a million other great songs!
Thank you Ramones ... I love you .
Dear God, I had an eargasm at 50:25. LOOK AT EVERYONE ON THAT FUCKING STAGE! The bit about Johnny and the groceries was hilarious too.
Thank you for uploading this!
Why was Richie left out in the credits? At least Tommy gave him his due.
@@thorazine8402 dont forget halfway to sanity
Richie was fucking great
@@franciscofeest6691still is, he is not dead
I saw the Ramones in Chicago in about 1979, fantastic show, not even that big of a crowd. Funny watching Johnny gritting his teeth and kicking stuff off the stage back into the audience.
It's nice too see so many young faces enjoying the RAMONES
I saw him 42 times and I still can't believe they're gone it's like a meteor burning up in the atmosphere
Judy is a punk, Commando, Blitzkrieg bop-Seve Jones on the guitar!!!
Saw them in Geneva by the end of the 80’s. Went alone. Couldn’t miss them. It was a small venue but it was all right 😊🎸🇨🇭🎼🌺
Like Punk? This is one of the coolest tribute concerts ever. EVER.
You had to see The Ramones live. The records don't come close to the raw power of a live Ramones gig. Thank fuck I made the effort to go see them a whole bunch of times back in the day.
+TS50ER I love the records though.
87JuliR
, nothing wrong with the records. Nothing wrong at all, but it was their live sound with its pure, raw energy that made the Ramones matchless.
yje mixed emotions i have watching this under my belt i saw 3 live shows in vancouver have 40 albums studio and bootleg and iys been 25 years since i last saw them...i first bought Mania just because it looked hilarious ...little did i know that would change my entire ideas about music....anyhow i miss these guys and i have often said now being 52 that the older i get the more i understand johnny ramone i wished there was a n afterlife to meet them
Joey Ramone told the Dickies to carry the flame, after they had gone, and there are doing that, Going to see the Dickies in July. i love both bands.
I'd give this tribute a bold two-thumbs up! I especially liked the creative talent of "The Red-Hot Chili Peppers" making the Ramones mantras ever better!
Awesome freakin show, wow, I would have given a lot to be there
Thanks for this beautiful video
Thank you so much for poting this!
Rest In Peace ramones.. wish they were still around
RIP Johnny Ramone you have been gone for 10 years today... :(
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's 17 years and counting! I will never forget Johnny!! So Fucking Cool!!!!
joan jett - great stuff
Joan Jett rocks !!!!!
She did a great job.
God bless Johnny !!
Oops Thurston (15:30)..."Beat on the brat" was not written by Dee Dee...It's a Joey song I think
who ever upload this i love u!
The Ramones , The Best !
the ramones is original punk rock at all the pioneer in other punk underated bands
Okay that's the true!...BUT... It was a tribute. And all the bands have done their best.or not ?? Greetz from the Netherlands. Ron.
RHCP was trying to sing like Buddy Holley., isn't it ?! (23.28 minutes)
I once watched the video.,but they ALL want to be better with their voices and dance moves! GF-NYC..., YES YOU ARE RIGHT..., no one can match The Ramones.
The only one that played with respect for Johnny was Steve. He played on the background.,without attraction attention.
CJ: I smoked my first joint listening to it😂😂
Highest respect for the RHCP - all downstrokes by Flea & John!
These singers highlight how inimitable Joey was vocally. Nobody can get near him. 😉
Thanks for this!!!

I like that after all of these years Leonard from The Dickies hasn't discovered ear plugs. :-)
Hate me if you want, but I didn't know Johnny died when clicking on this, I was hoping it would be a documentary on his life, and what made him such a tough miserable asshole (which is why I love him) ..But anyways RIP Johnny
Johnny's guitar said to anyone seeing them "we're the RAMONES, and if y' don't like us y' better just get the fuck out the way"
RIP Johnny Ramone 😍😍😍😍😍😢😢😢😢😢😢
Thought I saw Bill Stevenson in the crowd. He was Playing in the songs in the credits with Joan Jett and Josh Homme.
CJ saved the band, respect him, he's a real Ramone, a piece of legend
Apdm I agree. he played peace keeper and if it weren't for that and the youthful energy he brought to the band, they might have self destructed after dee dee left rather than carrying on for the last 7 years...and those last 7 years were very important because they were able to play and inspire the next generation of 90s kids. wish I was 8 or 9 years older (I'm 29) so that I could have seen them live. RIP boys.
The inventor of punk was a conservative. Love it.
Lou Reed was not a conservative
I’m a democrat but I love him. His guitar playing gave the Ramones their sound.
Yes like many americans he was politically illiterate but that's not a reason to mock the guy, he did a few good songs....he was also a scumbag from a humanist perspective, you forgot to mention that lol
"my ass. Democrats are OK with late-term abortions and war whenever “their guy” is in office. FFS, the DNC is trying to put forth an Alzheimer’s patient for President"
Hey pssst.
"Finally, before you accuse me of being a Trump fan (as if that could shut down an argument), realize I’m not."
Oh please tell me who is your political role model it's gonna be rich :)
"FFS, the DNC is trying to put forth an Alzheimer’s patient for President"
Trump is more dangerous than that tho, please tell me what sucks regarding this scumbag, prove it to me you don't like him.
iggy pop is not conservative, mc5 were not conservatives, ,... poor conservatives big mouth and small brain
BEST ROCK BAND IN THE WORLD.........
